Request for Assistance in Creating/Updating Author and TV Show Creator Page

Hello Wikipedia Community,

I am seeking assistance in creating or updating a Wikipedia page for myself as an author and creator of children’s TV shows. I have published three books and produced several TV shows for kids. Here are some details about my work:

Books Published (albanian language): “Mëngjeset janë parajsa“ (poezi, 2018) - "Heaven is another morning" (poetry, 2018) „Qyteti Qiellzi“ (prozë poetike, 2020) - "Black Sky City" (poetic prose, sci-fi, 2020) „Qielli i shpirtit“ (poemë, 2021) - "Sky of the soul" (poem, sci-fi, 2021)

TV Shows for Kids: I've been working for 12 years in MRT (Macedonian Radio Television) which is a public broadcasting organization and there I have worked as an author and presenter. These are my original titles:

I was granted achievement award for the show "The Bear and the Frog" by AJM (Association of Journalists of Macedonia), UNDP and Swiss Embassy for Educational and Creative approach for raising awareness in children regarding the environment. Most of these sources are not suitable. Self published sources are avoided as much as possible, while videos and interviews involving you don't help the claim for notability either. We will need indepth and independent coverage of you, like ones from news articles, books or other trustworthy sources, preferably not routine coverage like announcement of upcoming projects or being appointed to certain roles. @Tutwakhamoe: Can you refer to a policy which substantiates the claim that "interviews... don't help the claim for notability"? It seems to me that that is not correct, and that interviews may, depending on the context and source, be relevant when considering notability. Interviews do not establish notability, as by definition an interview is the person speaking about themselves. Anyone can claim anything in an interview. We want to know what others say about you, not what you say about yourself. 331dot (talk) 11:34, 10 August 2024 (UTC)

Tungatjeta, Asdren. You are very strongly discouraged from writing about yourself in Wikipedia: see autobiography. This is mostly because it is difficult to write in a neutral tone about oneself, or to judge what is neutral.

Note that Wikipedia has little interest in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is almost entirely interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources. If enough material is cited from independent sources to establish notability, a limited amount of uncontroversial factual information may be added from non-independent sources.

I'll also point out that, even without the added difficulty of writing about yourself, most editors who try to create an article before they have spent a considerable time learning about Wikipedia's processes and requirements, usually have a frustrating and miserable experience. My earnest advice to new editors is to not even think about trying to create an article until you have spent several weeks - at least - learning about how Wikipedia works by making improvements to existing articles. Once you have understood core policies such as verifiability, neutral point of view, reliable, independent sources, and notability, and experienced how we handle disagreements with other editors (the Bold, Revert, Discuss cycle), then you might be ready to read your first article carefully, and try creating a draft. Suspicious user

User:Réalgard has done many edits which seem to be all minor edits which could have been one edit and has gone to edit Russo-ukraine and I/P immediately after getting EC. Is there anything to be done or just normal activity? AlexBobCharles (talk) 11:05, 10 August 2024 (UTC)

This isn't really a Help desk question and is more of a matter for WP:ANI if you believe that the user has done something specifically wrong. This would also require notifying the user on their talk page.--♦IanMacM♦ ^{(talk to me)} 11:13, 10 August 2024 (UTC)

I did not want to go to ANI or notify them because I suspected their activity wasn't anything illegal. I was just wondering if this kind of activity would be actionable. Clarityfiend's reply was what I was looking for and your reply was unhelpful. AlexBobCharles (talk) 12:21, 10 August 2024 (UTC)

Mohamed Siad Barre

In our entry we say that Mohamed Siad Barre was born around 1909 in Shilabo, but we have very little evidence and sources. Most references claim that he was born in 1919 in Lugh Ganane. 2A02:B025:F04:AC6A:36A9:5F5A:BBB2:AB43 (talk) 11:11, 10 August 2024 (UTC)

@Michael D. Turnbull There are several results for his birthplace as Ganane and his birth year as 1919. However there are few sources that explain these discrepancies ([2] ; [3] ; [4]). Please don't just give us Google books links, especially ones in Italian. If you want to cite a book, give us the proper bibliographic information: author, title, date, publisher, and page number, and (if it's likely to be difficult to find) a brief quotation. Misapplication of 'the' in description of an individual

Can someone point me to where in the MOS the misapplication of 'the' in describing an individual is described? The example I remember is something like 'musician Bob Dylan' is preferred to 'the musician Bob Dylan', although I haven't been able to locate it. Thanks. That's the essay WP:FALSETITLE. Though it should be noted that this isn't part of the Wikipedia manual of style — opinions vary on this one, and where editors disagree the status quo should remain. Just its mention here might trigger another debate. Popcornfud (talk) 16:06, 10 August 2024 (UTC)

I've translated an article from Persian to English and I'm having trouble submitting it for review. I can't find the submit button. I'm a returning editor who used to be able to translate articles directly. Can someone please help me?"

@Neginghaderii en:Wikipedia sometimes has different policies compared to other-language versions, which is why using the WP:AfC process is a good idea if you haven't edited here in a while. In particular, we have very strict rules for biogrpahies of living people, to do with inline citations for every fact that might be disputed. At present, I see no citation in your draft for his DOB or that he was influenced by his father. I haven't checked your sources to see if you could back these parts up. I’m working on a draft article about Koorosh Ghorbani, an Iranian trial motorcyclist, and I’m having some trouble with sourcing. He is well-known in Iran and has been featured extensively in Persian media, which are reliable sources in his home country. These sources were sufficient for his Persian Wikipedia page, but I’m unsure how to use them as references on the English Wikipedia.

I know Koorosh Ghorbani personally, and I have access to official documents and translated certificates of his championships. He has participated in international races, including two in Mexico and two in Italy, and I might be able to find links to these events. However, most of the detailed coverage of his career is in Persian.

Can anyone advise on how I can use Persian sources on English Wikipedia? Additionally, is there a way to upload and use translated documents as sources? We’re aiming to introduce him to an international audience, and having an English Wikipedia page is important for this purpose.

You can use sources in other languages on en.wiki, the WP:Reliable sources guideline does not assess based on language used. However, it seems doubtful official documents and certificates would be reliable sources. You should also read WP:COI, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle to advertise to various audiences. Neginghaderii, our software has a translation tool, but some time ago (can't remember when), it was disabled or restricted because its users were producing extremely poor-quality translations, almost as bad as machine translation. Perhaps you used this feature before it was disabled, and now you can't because of the changes to the tool? Nyttend (talk) 22:40, 11 August 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for the clarification. Yes, I remember using the translation tool in the past, which is why I was surprised when I encountered difficulties this time. I want to emphasize that I’m Iranian, and Persian is my first language, so the translation I provided is a careful and accurate one, not a rough machine translation.

I’m fully aware of the limitations of machine translations and have taken care to ensure that the text is high quality and faithfully represents the original content. I’m hoping to get some guidance on how to move forward with submitting this translation.

Embed hatnote in page-top template, one transclusion only

Each of the reference desks transcludes a page-top template, Wikipedia:Reference desk/header, taking a parameter to provide desk-specific information; e.g., Wikipedia:Reference desk/Science transcludes {{Wikipedia:Reference desk/header|WP:RD/S}}. The humanities desk has a separate hatnote:

"WP:RD/H" redirects here. For the template header used in all areas of the reference desks, see WP:Reference desk/Header.

Any idea how to embed this in the humanities-only component of the page-top template? I've never understood how to edit variable content in templates more complicated than {{{1}}}, {{{2}}}, {{{3}}}, etc. Nyttend (talk) 21:08, 10 August 2024 (UTC)

You can test the pagename like this:

But I don't think Wikipedia:Reference desk/header deserves a hatnote at Wikipedia:Reference desk/Humanities. It's not user-facing and only gets around 8 page views per month. Wikipedia:Reference desk/Humanities gets around 10,000. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:43, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
