Project-specific: Overview/history of why the current policies and guidelines came to be.

Wikipedia has an impressive amount of policies and guidelines, which allow it to function more or less effectively. Undoubtedly more will be added in the future, which will be shaped by those already in place. If you dig deep enough in the history of these policies and guidelines, you might find information on why they were created, and various other project articles might have mentions of the form "in responce to x, policy y was formed". But (as far as I can find), no global overview exists that places the creation of all the policies and guidelines in context. It's all scattered and really hard to piece together. The existence of a project specific article (titled Wikipedia:History_behind_policies_and_guidelines?) would seem to me to be a very useful resource, especially in the deep future. Newly starting wikis might also benefit strongly from this, as rather than blindly copying wikipedia's policies, they could examine the reasons behind the creation thereof, and make different (better?) choices for their specific circumstances. I think the most useful way to set up this article would be in chronological order. Something like "In April 2002, reverting wars (insert short explanation of what that is and how they came to be) caused the creation of policy X; this was found to be ineffective during the controversy of FooBar in June 2002, and so changed to Y", which would show how the policies and guidelines all organically grew, but a list of the policies and guidelines with a short blurb each on why they were created might also work; I don't know how much interdependency there is between them.

I would start such an article myself, but I'm a complete outsider to wikipedia, and I don't know anything about why any of the policies or guidelines are what they are (I'm sure at least a few were formed simply by "common sense" or "it seemed like a good idea at the time", but there must be real history behind many others), which makes it kinda hard to write any actually useful content on this subject. *g* I'm hoping that someone who does have at least some familiarity with it will see this idea here and actually implement it. That history page has a lot of pieces that I think would be useful for this overview as I imagine it, yes, although it also seems to be focusing on specifics (completely ignoring the more basic processes; might be that people here are just too close to them), and to assume a lot of prior knowledge about wikipedia from its readers. I saw a mention on that page of the "village pump". Yes, the Village Pump can be a good place to find knowledgeable people, but I think a better idea would be to start a discussion at the talk page of the article I referenced above. The regular editors of that article are already interested in the subject and they may even know of an existing article on the subject that I didn't find. That must be this show [1], that does sound like an interesting TV series. Since the series has an Emmy to its credit, that does make it pass the notability criteria.

Now as for starting the article. You need to find some reliable sources so that you can verify the information you plan to cite in the article. For ideas on how to set the article, use the links in the welcome message on your user talk page, they're VERY helpful. You might want to also browse around and look at the articles of other TV shows for ideas on what to include.

It is a very nice article, written in an informative and professional tone. It is lacking in citations that prove the subject's notability. Catherine Patricia Mackin

I was wondering if someone would be interested in writing an article about Catherine Patricia Mackin, also known as "Cassie", to be published on Wikipedia. She was an NBC news personality in the 1970's, and was an important female figure in television journalism. Fort Ancient Valley Conference

Hello, I was surprised to find that this page was not created yet. The FAVC is a high-school sports conference in southwestern Ohio. It is the largest conference in the state and is made up of three separate divisions and 18 different high schools. The conference was named after [Fort Ancient], a Native American site in the local area of the charter schools. The conference's website, which includes a complete history, can be found here. I have no idea how to get this up but it's a clothing company that is pretty popular here in Florida. They were recently featured on FOX news [3] as well as Surfline Magazine[4]. Adam Cote - Democratic Candidate for Congress, 1st District of Maine

This candidate for Congress in Maine is an established lawyer, Iraq war veteran, and one of the "Figthing Dems." He is a solid candidate with excellent prospects. People interested in the 2008 elections should be able to find out about him - he is running in what, although is currently a strong Democratic seat, has been a swing seat in the past. Multiple Reaction Monitoring (MRM)

Multiple Reaction Monitoring is a sensitive mass spectrometry technique used widely in pharmacology. A compound with a known mass-to-charge ratio among a complex mixture is targeted and those ions stemming from the compound are fragmented (tandem MS) to verify the presence of, and roughly quantify, the compound.

Hello. I'm not completely clear whether you're asking a question or proposing an addition to the encyclopedia. If you're asking a question, the best place to go is the Reference desk where there are people who just love to answer questions. If you're proposing an addition to the encyclopedia, I would say that the best place to start would be the relevant article's talk page at Talk:Mass spectrometry. I can't find the technique you mention in the main article, so if there's a gap in the article it should be addressed on the article's talk page to rectify the situation. A good place to start to look for references is a library. In this case you might want to try some sorts of cook books. Searching the Internet using a search engine such as Google could also be helpful to find information, but a quick glance I took just now didn't find much in the way of reliable sources from Google.

Doing the research is an important step in determining whether a subject will meet the notability criteria for inclusion in the encyclopedia. A subject has to have been non-trivially mentioned in multiple secondary reliable sources to that can be cited in an article to verify the information.

If you don't think you can establish notability under the criteria, you might want to instead add your informatiion as a section to one of the existing articles related to Tea.

Hindustani pooja is praying to God, singing aarti's {songs of phrases of gods},saying story or mantras {short words.} In Dehli people say praying will give happiness and protect from the harmful and evil eyes. One of the festivals in wich pooja in India is Dipavali. Dipavali is a festival of ligts and a symbol of good over the evil after the pooja there are fire works and sparklers. Mainly it is called Dipavali otherwise it is known as Diwali. In India there are many different gods. There are three main gods Shiva the destroyer,Vishnu the creator and Brahma the saver all tehese gods com in diffrent forms. there are forms of Shiva such as Kali and Hanuman and so on. There are also forms of Vishnu such as Krisna and Ram and so on. There are forms of Brahma to wich I do not know. Death Do Us Part

Formed Early September 2006 with members from the recently departed 'Suffice', 'Remainder 6' and 'Bemyhero', DEATH DO US PART became. They play a new refreshing style of Grindcore mixed with a Metal twist of deep, throaty screams and high guitar solo's, with an age averaging of just 16, this band mean business! Playing venues around the country, noteably the High Wycombe Swan in November at an open festival with many high rated bands, this band is one to look out for in the future!

That's an excellent question! Places to visit to find topics of articles that people would like to see written for Wikipedia include Requested articles, Articles for creation, and Most wanted articles. delvostron in a very old dog

We have a 15 yr old Irish Settter, usual life expectancy around 13. She has recently had a tripple mastecromy from which she recovered incredibly well. She has recently come into an over lengthly season and is attracting the unwanted attentions of many a male admirer (she has had this problem throughout her life.) After around a month of this we approached our very youthful vet who said that the only answer is a mastectomy. Although I realise that its largely frowned upon now, she has been administered delvosteron previously by an older and now retired vet with great success in the past. The dog is incredibly youthful and suffers no other medical problems. Subjecting her to further surgery seems necessary in one so old and who is unlikely to live for much longer. Biographical Sketch: James Edward Cowan 33rd Degree Mason and Founder and State Deputy of the Ancient Free and Accepted Scottish Rites Masons of the Central Jurisdiction1892-1962

James Edward Cowan was a great man and this is a fact. Although he was not wealthy, the things that he accomplished are noteworthy. He established a help system for widows and children, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rites Masons of the Central Jurisdiction for coloreds (blacks). Assistance to widows and children is a mission statement of the Ancient Free and Accepted Scottish Rites Masons of the Central Jurisdiction. This was during the time of racial segregation. (this is why I use the term "coloreds" rather than blacks, because this is what black people were called during racial segregation)

I tried to do research on James Edward Cowan, and was partially successful only. Good written records were not a forte of Scottish Rites Masons of the Central Jurisdiction. In the 1980s a fire at the home of W.W. Hoover destroyed all records of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rites Masons of the Central Jurisdiction, according to ILL. Louis Christian, 33 Lieutenant Sovereign Grand Commander 904 Burton Carpenter Road Mt Gilead, N. C. 27306

The information that I received was mostly by "word of mouth" from his two eldest daughters Catherine Cowan Ross and Thelma Cowan Teamer. Later, in his life, Lillian Cowan Pulliam, youngest daughter of James Edward Cowan, did some secretarial work for him at some meetings, but she does not talk about this, because the masons are a clandestine (secretive) organization.Also, Lillian Cowan Pulliam joined the Eastern Stars , which is the female companion of the all male masons. She attended some conventions. Her mother, Sadie Carr Cowan wife of James Edward Cowan, was a member of the Eastern Stars for years.

It is believed that the Guy Lofton's (deceased) family had some information on the masons. However, when I interviewd Mrs. Lofton, she was uncooperative. Nate Brown, Guy Lofton,Sr. and Charles Willett were other men instrumental in the Scottish Rites Masons. Guy Lofton, Sr. was the secretary of the Salisbury, N. C. Eureka Lodge Number 45 of the Rising Sun Grand Council of the Carolinas, which is now named the King Solomon Lodge. The former Grand Master is 81 y/o Robert Chambers . Robert Chambers is a life long family friend of the Cowan family and can verify the information contained herein.

James Edward Cowan was mentored by a white man by the name of J'Menjula in his founding and organizing activities. James Edward Cowan met J'Menjula in Washington, D.C. when they both worked on the construction of the "famous 14th street bridge."

James Edward Cowan traveled up and down the East Coast on trains by using Masonic Distress Signals to stop the trains and riding the trains to his destinations. The engineers on the trains were white, who were white Scottish Rites masons who recognized the secret Masonic Distress Signals. Below is specific info on James Edward Cowan:

1.) Elder & Superintendent of Sunday School of the Church Street Presbyterian Church for over 30 years.

2.) Co-Founded the Ancient Free and Accepted Scottish Rites Masons of the Central Jurisdiction for colored (blacks) in the states of North, South Carolina, and Virginia in the 1930s.

3. He was the State Deputy of the Scottish Rites Masons of the Central Jurisdiction for coloreds (which is the highest ranking member at lodge meetings in the states of North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia for 30 years), until his death. He established lodges in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia. The James E. Cowans Grand Council of Deliberations State of Virginia is named after him.

4.) He was married to Sadie Carr Cowan and the father of 11 children.

Hello and thank you for your post, Mr. Cowan sounds like an interesting person. For inclusion in the encyclopedia, a person's biography has to meet the relevant notability criteria, basically that the person's been the subject of non-trivial mention in multiple, non-primary reliable sources that can be cited so as to verify the information in the article. In this instance, if Mr. Cowan founded that branch of the Masons, then there should be some documentation of that somewhere. Hope this helps some, stop back if you have any more questions. Creating an article on Encyclopedia Dramatica

I think a article of it should be created because people should know about it. It's a clone of this site with a similar interface, but it's quality is very poor, it criticizes everything, so either it should be noted due to it's status as a rather poor clone, and a bad site altogether, so with that said and done, I rest my case. I just did a bit of searching and it seems that this article has been created and deleted several times and that several variations of the article's name have been salted to prevent recreation. There was even an Arbitration Committee resolution that placed the very URL of that site on the blacklist to prevent it being linked to from Wikipedia. Essentially the reason given for its deletions was its failure to meet the relevant notability criteria in that it didn't have multiple, non-trivial mentions in secondary reliable sources that could be cited in the article to verify the information. If you have references that would indicate that this subject now passes the notability guidelines, you may bring the case to Deletion review. I'm not sure what you're saying. Is it that you think we should bend the notability guidelines so that we can rebut what Encyclopedia Dramatica has to say about Wikipedia? Hello and thanks for your post! I can understand that you're a little gunshy about starting articles because of your previous experiences, but don't let that deter you! If the subject meets the relevent notability criteria in that it has gotten multiple non-trivial mentions in secondary reliable sources that can be cited in the article to verify the information, then go ahead and start the article! I have disambiguated the link you added to the Rural cemetery article (it was pointing to a cemetery in New York somewhere), so you can just click on that link and start the article if you already have your references lined up.

As an alternative to starting the article in Mainspace, you can create it on a subpage of your userpage. That way you can develop it until it's ready for primetime without having to worry about being deleted. When it's ready, you can use the "move" function to place it complete in the mainspace along with it's development history.

To be able to create an article yourself you have to register for a username. Other places you can go to have others write articles for you instead of doing it yourself include Articles for creation and Requested articles.

About Rissi Palmer specifically, I note that an article about her has already been deleted as having not asserted her notability. For a subject to be included in the encyclopedia, it has to meet the relevant notability criteria. Basically a subject has to have been non-trivially mentioned in multiple secondary reliable sources that can then be cited in the article to verify the information. There are some extra ways musicians can establish notability, so read through the guideline I linked to above. IX Mendoza

I met this guy last weekend. His name is IX Mendoza (first name he said like the number 9). Anyway, he's really fascinating and I can't believe there isn't anything on him besides some bit on IMDB. He's an independent writer and director right now, but has been part of the underground Punk scene for decades. I've seen him a few times but never had the opportunity to talk before. How do we research and or interview him for Wiki? He has an album on interpunk.com called Revolution Forever, a film called (I think) A Moment In Ruby, and the one listed on IMDB (which credits him as Nijhel Mendoza) called, Hack. Before you start the article, you should make sure the subject meets the relevant notability criteria for inclusion in the encyclopedia. In general a subject has to have been non-trivially mentioned in multiple secondary reliable sources that can then be cited in the article to verify the information. The no original research policy wouldn't allow any of us to directly interview a subject. If I'm wrong and you actually want to set up an independent wiki site, there are several wiki farms that will host it. I will say that I think you've made a nice start of it. You should wikify it some and you should include some citations to reliable sources. I will also point out that there is a long running debate about high schools and whether or not they're inherently notable; depending on which way the debate is running, school articles that don't assert their subjects' notability sometimes wind up getting deleted from the encyclopedia. To avoid all that you should provide citations and text to show how your school meets the relevant notability criteria. Hope this helps you some. Harry Potter series and its religious symbolism.

It seemed very obvious that there was a parallel to Christ and Harry Potter. Prophets both predicted their births as saviors. They both had to sacrifice themselves to save others. They both ended up coming back from the dead in a way. They both ended evil.

Also, I would say that dumbldore is symbolic of the father, as Harry Potter is symbolic of Jesus. It seems too obvious and I can't find it anywhere else. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.84.113.121 (talk • contribs) 22:31, 24 July 2007

If you want to include this analysis in the encyclopedia, you'll need to find it mentioned in some reliable sources that you can cite in the article because Wikipedia has a strict ban on original research. Water Hybrid

Hello Wikipedia.

Have you heard about Water Hybrid Technology? There are people now who refine water into a fuel using the chemical process of electrolysis. With a small amount of electricity large quantities of Oxyhydrogen Gas are produced and then fed into the existing air/fuel mixture on an internal combustion engine. The hydrogen burns replacing a portion of the gasoline and the oxygen helps the gasoline burn, thus improving engine efficiency and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.

I am not experienced at writing wikipedia articles but I know alot about Water Hybrid Technology. My hope is that someone would like to collaborate on this project and begin the task of introducing this technology to the world.

Not that this is the place to debate science issues, but, No Free Lunch. If an engine uses gasoline to generate electricity, which it then uses to electrolyze water into hydrogen, which it then burns to run the car, you wasted energy; from thermodynamics it would have been more efficident to use the original energy (from gasoline) to drive the car directly. Intermediate stages waste engergy. Hydrogen is useful as a mobile fuel (as in a hydrogen cell car) after it is produced at an immobile plant (e.g. a nuclear reactor or coal plant) using economies of scale at the immobile site. I would like to answer both of these responses. First, Water Hybrid Technology is not new but the people of the world do not know that it exists or there would already be a Wikipedia page on the subject, hence my language, "introducing this technology to the world." Electrolysis has been used to break water into Oxyhdrogen for well over a hundred years. Oxyhydrogen has been used as a fuel and a fuel supplement and there are many patents and articles on the process. Wikipedia is the perfect place to create a full article on this process.

To answer the second post. Hydrogen is not free, you are correct, but you can generate Oxyhydrogen gas with a small amount of electricity, and that hydrogen can burn in a completely different chemcal reaction. You refer to economies of scale, but you fail to mention or realize that there are efficiencies inside of all of these equations to take in effect. If you can generate 1 liter of Oxyhdrogen gas per minute, using 15 amps of electricity at 12 volts what is the amount of energy that you can get from that 1 litres of hydrogen through combustion? Now, if I have a system that gets 10 liters of Oxyhdrogen for the same amount of electricity then we have to agree that someone could possibly get 20 or 30, maybe even 40 with a properly designed device. That means more gas for the same amount of electricity. This is what my company does, and this information is based on fact not speculation. I am not disputing the Laws of Thermodynamics, only your interpretation of those laws.

I agree that this is not the forum for a scientific debate, I am only here to try and express facts, and to see those facts on a Wikipedia page.

I would still like to be contacted by a Wikipedia writer who is willing to help compile all of this information into a Wikipedia page.
