Soonpoong Clinic Feedback
editHello, Youngsil, I read your Soonpoong Clinic. The outline was neatly organized and easy to read. Since it was a very popular sitcom in Korea, I think it will be better if you add information such as the influence it had on the media after the airing, or information such as a pervasive buzzword. Have a good day! Thank you. Shinhee Kim (talk) 19:30, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
Your edits
editHello, please do not cite naver.com for any topic that is not about Korea. I don't know Korean but per Google Translate many of the refs you recently cited (especially about non-Korean topics) seem blog-like or derived from Wikipedia. Also, encyclopedias are [[tertiary sources and we very much prefer secondary references. We much prefer English sources when possible. I've undone your edits on non-Korean topics but left your other changes there. Pinging Piotrus, your instructor, for the second time tonight. Sorry, just you and another student both independently appeared on my watchlist! Graham87 18:11, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
- Graham87, I agree that sources should not be attributed to naver.com, which is just a Korean version of google. This is one of the important things to learn for the students and new editors. English language sources are also preferred to Korean, where available, but this needs to be considered on a case by case basis, sometimes Korean sources may be better or the only one in existence. Lastly, encyclopedias are generally quite acceptable as a source. Again, this needs to be considered on case to case basis. Looking at [1], you call the source a blog. The linked Naver page on poodles, however, is attributed to "Animal Encyclopedia" and has the author given as "Korea Dog Federation". Sadly, I cannot find out more about what is this "Animal Encyclopedia", but I also don't see while you describe the source as a "blog". I'd suggest this should be discussed at WP:RSN. Whether any Korean speakers will participate in this discussion, of course, is both crucial and a question mark (I cannot guarantee that any students will participate, or do so in a meaningful fashion). WT:KOREA would be good to ping here. Cheers, Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:07, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Piotrus: I later had second thoughts about describing it as a blog ... I now realise where this misunderstanding came from. I Googled the URL added to Samoyed (dog) and it coughed up this thing, before realising how to properly translate pages with Chrome (the translation interface is a bit difficult to use with my screen reader for the blind). As for starting a discussion at RSN, feel free to do that; I don't really know a good set of examples here, but the answer about the site in general could well be "it depends". - Graham87, Indeed. I am not sure how reliable the "Animal Encyclopedia" is. Naver is not very good at attributing sources :( The best thing is to ask editors who add such sources to explain why they think the source is reliable, encouraging them to think about reliability and such. But we have to also be careful b/c if we make mistakes and call such a source a blog, the easy rebuke is "you are wrong, this is not a blog".
