Grammar

Hi there, be careful when editing articles written in US English. For them, band names and sports teams take a singular verb, e.g. the New York Jets is a sports team etc. It's weird to Brits, but there it is. Cheers, Bretonbanquet (talk) 22:35, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

Bad example, sorry. In American English the verb treatment for sports teams does vary. But generally they take the singular, like band names, e.g. Nirvana is a rock band etc. I'm not explaining it terribly well, but there are guidelines, like WP:PLURALS. Yeah, you're right, and certainly with individual people it's always singular. I think the main difference is that if you talk about the team just in terms of the place name, e.g. Indianapolis (instead of Indianapolis Colts), an American might say "Indianapolis was leading 14-0" whereas a Brit would say "Indianapolis were leading 14-0". Hell no lol, too much work. We can all read each other's articles well enough, there are just these little differences and some people get really wound up when they're written wrongly. Well, I didn't look at Stanley Lucas's page after that other guy edited it, I just assumed he wasn't dead yet, so that was my fault. And, I reverted my own edits, so I fixed my own mistakes, but I know that was like a spammer. YouTubeaholic2009 (talk) 16:18, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

St. Francis

I found references that St. Francis(NY) hasn't made the tournament. The first is from the NCAA: http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/w_final4/2013/Tournament.pdf

The second is from the Women's basketball media guide. It shows that for a number of years they didn't even qualify for their conference tournament, much less make the NCAA tournament as an at-large: http://www.sfcathletics.com/documents/2012/12/18/2013_WBB_Guide.pdf

Then why did someone have "St. Francis" on the Appearances and Results by School section on the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball tournament page?! LOL. They were dumb then. LOL.

Must have been a St. F (NY) fan who wants to see the team in the "Big Dance". I also had to made corrections to the 1996-00, and 2002-05 tournaments since they were referencing (NY) and not( (PA). Thank you, and THAT IS WHY THAT CONFUSED ME! LOL. I was making a list of all the NCAA womens teams that had ever made the tournament and every sweet 16, elite 8, final 4... team., since they already had that list on the main tournament page. They don't have that on the Men's. I think a Mens' list would be harder to do since it goes ALL THE WAY BACK TO 1939!
