Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions; however, it appears you may have written a Wikipedia article, or a draft for a Wikipedia article, about yourself. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – please see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to or change an existing article about yourself, you are welcome to propose the changes by visiting the article's talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was the page I created deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss this with the deleting administrator. Thank you. You have an obvious conflict of interest, please don't write about yourself, your friends or relatives and read the guidance below:

  • When you write about a person, you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that they meet the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the person or an associated organisation, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the person claims or interviewing them. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls.
  • You must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, with verifiable facts, not opinions or reviews.
  • There shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections.
  • You must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.

Before attempting to write an article again, please make sure that the topic meets the notability criteria linked above, and check that you can find independent third party sources. Also read Your first article. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 07:01, 11 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

An article about you edit

Hi! I think I can do it, I found some sources that should, probably, make a WP-article about you "stick". I should get around to it in a week or so.

Per WP-philosophy, what is most wanted/demanded, are sources that are at the same time reliably published, independent of you, and about you (or your books, but mostly you since you're the topic) in some detail. This excludes your websites, your publisher, blogs, wikis, online bookstores etc etc. You can help by linking the best ones you know here. I'm watching this page (not 24/7).

Also, when the article is published, you should not edit it directly yourself, but it will have it's own talkpage, and you are welcome to suggest changes and sources there. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 18:08, 13 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Btw, here is some recommended reading: Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 19:06, 13 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Yolanda T. Marshall. I saw your Teahouse qustion; so, I give you some input here on your user talk page. In addition, to what Gråbergs Gråa Sång posted above, I also suggest you carefully read through Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, Wikipedia:Conflict of interest (in particular Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#Law of unintended consequences), Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons (in particular Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Relationship between the subject, the article, and Wikipedia), Wikipedia:Wikipedia is in the real world and Wikipedia:Ownership of content. It's very important to understand that articles are expected to be written about subjects, but not for subjects, Basically, article content will be limited to what reliable sources (i.e. others) have been writing or saying about you and not what you think others should know about you. You will have no real final editorial control over the article's content, which means at some point it might include content that you disapprove of or which you feel might not otherwise be in your best interest. All content will be assessed in accordance with relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines and you will be, for the most part, expected to not directly edit the article yourself. You will also be expected to not try and get others to edit the article on your behalf except when doing so in accordance with relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines. This doesn't mean that you've got no options if you have concerns about the article, but it does mean that you'll generally be expected to use existing Wikipedia processes and seek assistance from other Wikipedia editors in trying to address them. I'm not trying to discourage you from trying to get a Wikipedia article writen about you, and Gråbergs Gråa Sång is a very accomplished editor and I'm sure they wouldn't offer to write such an article if they thought it couldn't be done properly. You just need to make sure you understand all of this fine print before signing off on this because many people often only find out way too late that there can a downside to having an article written about them on Wikipedia. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:35, 14 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Yolanda T. Marshall edit

Is now an article. It's short, but it's there. And I have learned about sorrel and mas. Talkpage at Talk:Yolanda T. Marshall.

One more thing. WP is very careful about copyright, so we can't use a nice picture of you like [1] or [2] in the article, because, well, copyright.

However, if you want, you can "donate" one. Here's how: Take a new (previously unpublished anywhere) selfie, then upload it with the process that starts here. That is a link to Commons, a sister site to WP where we keep "free" images. You can then tell me it's done, and I'll add it to the article.

Or, someone standing close to you can take the new picture, and then they can upload it with the same process. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 13:55, 18 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!! This is so great. I appreciate you. Yes, sorrel is delicious and Mas in Canada is grand!!! I will submit the image. I can share more about myself if allowed. Also, I was on Breakfast Television in Canada for "A piece of Black Cake for Santa" on Dec 22 past. The station has the video on their site - it is our biggest morning TV show here. Yolanda T. Marshall (talk) 20:26, 5 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello - I donated/uploaded an image of myself which have never been shared with the media before. I have this link https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Yolanda_T_Marshall.jpg Yolanda T. Marshall (talk) 20:48, 5 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Image and video added to article, video under "External links." Btw, I loved the cover of C is for Carnival. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 21:21, 5 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. The illustrator for "C is for Carnival" is Daria Lavrova - she lives in the Netherlands and works with the Canadian publisher!!! Such a talented artist and the sweetest human I encountered - she is currently completing another book I wrote. The publisher will release it by March of this year. Yolanda T. Marshall (talk) 21:53, 5 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Also - I wanted to ask - If I want to share more about myself BIO, can I do it here? The pages my family moved here when I was 14 - I did along with a younger sister Yes...but my Mom moved to Canada 4 years before us to build get herself settled before sending for us.

Right. In short and in general, nothing you share by writing it on a WP talkpage (not counting stuff like "here is a CBC article about me!") can be used in the article. Technically I don't know that you are you (I consider it a very good bet), but it doesn't matter that much. What "we" want, is to summarize what WP:RS has said about you, good and bad (if any), so what is in the article atm comes from the cited sources.
However, there may be a useful loophole: WP:ABOUTSELF. If you add some simple family background (and if you like, year of birth) at ytmarshall.com (or ytmarshall.com/ytmblog), I will consider using that as source in the customary bland, dry and dusty WP-manner. I can of course not just copy it (copyright again). Hope this helps some. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 23:11, 5 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Or try to get some of it into your next Stabroek article, that'll work too. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 23:35, 5 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

I understand and so appreciate your assistance. Only recently I start sharing more personal stuff - I have a few books being released this year and Stabroek News will be back for my updates to share with Guyana. I will share more there, as it authentically links my childhood there and many of them know my parents. Thank you Yolanda T. Marshall (talk) 23:47, 5 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Should I ever come to Scarborough, I'll expect a slice of black cake. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 00:17, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
