You blocked RFC bot like it was doing something new
The RFC bot has a history of occasionally wiping itself out. It is not a problem because it always repairs itself. Anyways, thank you for stalling the bot several hours. --harej 10:22, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, if I didn't do it, then someone else would have. 4-5 people in the BAG channel on IRC agreed that the bot should be blocked. Xclamation point 12:08, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Bots
I would like to create a bot that goes through album and song pages, and puts them into a hidden category if they're not in an artist category (such as Category:Kenny Chesney albums or Category:Kenny Chesney songs). Albums not categorized by artist would go into a Category:Albums not categorized by artist, and songs into Category:Songs not categorized by artist. Would it be possible to do this with a bot? I figured you might know since you're good with bots, and I already know how to make the categories hidden. I am going on Wikibreak and I will let you know when or if I am back on the site -- I am trying to take time away to clear my thoughts and refocus on this and other priorities. Be well. Relisting debates
Hey there X!, I noticed in closing some debates today that you had relisted three from the Sept. 5th log, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Software Freedom Day Hong Kong, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Medway Mariners, and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Billy Hill and the Hillbillies. I saw that you removed them from the log for the 5th, but didn't add them to the log for today (the 10th). I went ahead and added them. I'm sure you're well aware of the three steps of relisting, (see step 8 listed here if not). I often forget myself, so thought I'd just stop by to let you know for next time to be sure to add the debates to the new log. Cheers! Keeper ǀ 76 16:45, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
ACC shortcut
Hey, I wondered if there might be a shortcut script that would help me with the account creation interface. Currently, when I check out the info on an account requester, I have to go through and open eight different pages to get all the info. It would be cool if I had a script that could just open all of them at once in separate tabs or windows, or put all that info in one screen for me. Do you know if there is already something like that? Thanks!--Aervanath lives in the Orphanage 18:37, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
- Just thought of another one that would be nice: a script that alerts you somehow (maybe a note to your talk page or something) when account requests come in. The script would probably need to check if you were online or not, to prevent your talk page from being jammed with messages. Or maybe I should just learn javascript myself and stop bothering you. :) Cheers!--Aervanath lives in the Orphanage 18:40, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Admin bots
Hello, I have recently had an encounter with an unapproved admin bot, and despite an extremely clear dictate by policy that these bots should be blocked, have been discouraged from doing so. Depending how this situation resolves, I will likely file an arbitration request to hopefully resolve this issue once and for all. You commented on Wikipedia talk:Requests for comment/Adminbots, stating that you ran an admin bot. To help get an idea of how widespread admin bots are, as well as get a uniform decision, I would like to ask: Do you still operate this bot, and does it operate when you are not present? Please reply on my talk page, thanks, Prodego talk 00:40, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- First, I would like to say that it was MZMcBride who added me. To answer your questions, I do not run it anymore. When I did run it, I was always present when it ran. Xclamation point 03:05, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Bot cleaning sandbox 1 minute after change
Hi. Why does your bot clean the template sandbox 1 minute after I change it? According to the information listed on the page, it is only supposed to be cleaned every 12 hours. It's very annoying to have it clean the template every 1-2 minutes when you are testing something. RedWolf (talk) 02:04, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
- It also says that it cleans it immediately if the header is removed. It's explained in my botfaq above, too. Xclamation point 02:07, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
- Your bot is also ignoring the bots template: {{bots|deny=SoxBot IV}}. See X7 for an example. RedWolf (talk) 02:13, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
- Wow, that's...unexpected. I'll go have a look at that. Might want to use a subpage for right now. Xclamation point 02:14, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
Version 0.7 reviewing
Hi Soxred (I can't get used to calling you X!), I hope you're keeping well. You signed up a while back at the 1.0 review team. We need your help right now, because we had around 70 nominations last week! As you probably know, Version 0.7 is coming out soon, mainly based on the bot selection. This relieves us of the burden of manually assessing 30,000 articles, but we need the manual system to catch the articles that might "fall through the cracks" - such as a couple of missing provinces needed to complete a set. If you're no longer interested in reviewing, please can you remove your name from the list of reviewers?
You should consult the criteria and the FAQs, but I would suggest that most manual nominations of B-Class articles or higher are expected to pass, unless they are fairly obscure. You can get a good sense of the importance by looking at the article in the bot's list (check the talk page to find which projects have tagged it); an importance score (excluding quality) of <700 indicates that the article is probably too obscure, unless it is needed to complete a useful set (e.g., all the counties of England). I take the view that if someone who is knowledgeable on the topic spends the time to nominate the article, it is likely to be OK, but just occasionally people try to argue for an obscure or poor-quality article.
BTW, as a big bot user yourself, do you have any comments on the SelectionBot, or thoughts on how to improve it? Also, we're having an IRC discussion Monday if you want to join us.
So, are you able to help? Many thanks, Walkerma (talk) 05:15, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Adoption
Greetings! I am leujohn, an editor that has been here for 2 years now, but is still struggling to get over 300 edits. I have just graduated from Dar-Ape's adoption course. I used to use your SoxBot V, but didn't notice it was disabled until last week. So, I came over to try to find out what happened. Soon, I browsed your adoption page and found that your adoption course is pretty enriched. I am here to request adoption from you, because I might learn more from you, especially the vandalism courses, that he didn't teach me, and I had to learn myself. Please reply on my talk page, as I will give you a quicker response. Thanks! leujohn (talk, contribs) 10:43, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of talk pages with Project headers, class "needed"
Hello! I noticed that three talk pages were deleted, presumably by your Bot, despite the fact that they had a WP:Wight talk header (Needed-class) and a Template:go away on them. This has previously occurred as User:MZMcBride's bot did a similar action. I was advised as the result of this conversation that placing the "Go away" template on them should prevent this occurring. They have been existent for only a few days.
The pages concerned are Talk:Westridge, Isle of Wight (log) , Talk:Solent & Wightline Cruises (log) and Talk:Limerstone (log) . Please desist.
If there is a way that your bot can be made to ignore orphaned talk pages which have the go away template, please let me know, but this needs standardisation or the talk pages concerned will just be full of theoretically unnecessary templates and/or categories. Thanks, --Peeky44 (talk) 15:45, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm...I'll see if I can get this added to Twinkle. Xclamation point 23:22, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
Deletion of Ma.gnolia talk page
You have deleted the talk page of Ma.gnolia, because the article itself was deleted (referencing Wikipedia:CSD#G8). I believe this is usually the correct procedure. The problem is that the talk page contained a discussion to recreate the article. I just asked Xenocidic who already restored the original article to also restore the talk page. Assuming that you have read the contents of the talk page before deleting it, I would like to know what I should have done otherwise in the situation described therein. Is it also possible for you to restore the talk page? I would not always want to ask Xenocidic to restore articles, if the causer can undo his/her previous work easily.
