Wikilinks to redirect pages edit

Hi @Wikicontributerr and welcome to Wikipedia. Note that wikilinks pointed at redirect pages are, in general, just fine. You don't need to go change all of them to point at the target of the redirect, as you've been doing at Geographic coordinate system. Instead you want to keep the wikilink pointed at the title which is most relevant to what the intended link is about. Redirect pages often link down to a specific subsection of a page, so if you change the wikilink target you end up linking to a different (less relevant) place.

Perhaps just as importantly, a wikilink to a title which is currently a redirect with the topic discussed in a subsection of some other article may someday be pointed at a more relevant other target or even turned into its own separate article. If you leave the wikilinks pointed at the most relevant title (often the word directly being wikilinked) even if it is a redirect, then when this change happens the links will instantly all point at the correct place. On the other hand, if you change all of the wikilink targets to the target of the redirect page to cut out the indirection, then when the redirect is changed, all of those links will now be less relevant than they otherwise would be. –jacobolus (t) 22:08, 29 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Actually, after looking at your edit history, let me be more direct: You should not be skimming through articles looking for every redirect wikilink and trying to change it. Please stop making this kind of edit indiscriminately: It's unhelpful and somewhat disruptive, and typically makes an article worse.
Changing a wikilink which was a redirect to point directly at the target is somewhat okay when the two terms are precise synonyms (e.g. one is an abbreviation for the other) that could never diverge in meaning, but even then is not really necessary, and makes wiki-markup harder to read (supporting wikilinks to synonyms is one of the purposes of the redirect system). There are many (many!) better uses of your time if you want to meaningfully contribute to the encyclopedia. –jacobolus (t) 22:40, 29 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Alright i will keep that in mind Wikicontributerr (talk) 05:12, 30 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please stop adding redundant top-level categories to articles edit

Please read Wikipedia:Categorization#Categorizing_pages before adding any more categories. It's disruptive to add broad categories when subcategories already exist (e.g., Cricketer category). OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:11, 30 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

sorry about that, i will familiarize myself with the wikipedia guidelines, thank you Wikicontributerr (talk) 20:52, 30 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
