References and punctuation

edit

Hi Wikhnsj, thank you for your contributions on Wikipedia, e.g. Hammerstein castle. However, please note that when you add references, these go after the adjacent punctuation, not before, see WP:PUNCTREF. I've modified the Hammerstein castle article now accordingly. Again, thank you for your contributions. --Cyfal (talk) 18:44, 9 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Cyfal, thank you for that information and for rectifying the reference’s punctation. I’m a little confused, as I’m also writing to the French Wikipedia where the reference’s position is required to be before the adjacent punctuation. See https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aide:Ins%C3%A9rer_une_r%C3%A9f%C3%A9rence
Didn’t expect such differences between those language versions.
Thanks again and have a nice day. Wikhnsj (talk) 04:44, 10 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

CS1 error on Rheinbrohl

edit

Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page Rheinbrohl, may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:

  • A "bare URL and missing title" error. References show this error when they do not have a title. Please edit the article to add the appropriate title parameter to the reference. (Fix | Ask for help)

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 16:33, 19 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm Yoshi24517. I noticed that in this edit to John D. Rockefeller, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Yoshi24517 (Chat) (Online) 19:07, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

I was just trying to help and to add a source, as this is requested on the page. Wikhnsj (talk) 19:16, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Yoshi24517 I realize that when trying to add a needed citation (which was difficult to do on this page) some content was removed which was totally unintended. Sorry for that. Some help would be appreciated before making another try to add a source for already existing information on that page. Thanks Wikhnsj (talk) 19:39, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi Wikhnsj,
no problem, such errors may occur.
There also exists a list WP:RSP whether sources are reliable or not, FamilySearch there is assumed to be unreliable because it incorporates user-generated content. However, on this FamilySearch page in the "Name Meaning" box I found a hint ("Dictionary of American Family Names © Patrick Hanks 2003, 2006.") to the original source which I now added and think is reliable. Thank you for your work!

Hi Wikhnsj,

It's me again... You added a link to the German Wikipedia here because the corresponding article in the English Wikipedia does not yet exist. However, that is not a good idea because it is not visible that this is not an English link. For such cases, you can use the Template:Interlanguage link.

I added the following code now for this: {{ill|St Thomas's Abbey, Andernach|lt=St Thomas's Abbey at Andernach|de|Abtei St. Thomas (Andernach)}}. In this case I assume that a fitting title in the English Wikipedia will be "St Thomas's Abbey, Andernach", at least the same scheme is used for St Thomas's Abbey, Brno (English names tend to not having a full stop after the "St"). The "lt=" parameter displays its text instead of ", Andernach". I took the word "at" because in the German article I read that the abbey was not in, but at Andernach.
