Speedy deletion nomination of User:Tailoredcreditsolutions

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Tailoredcreditsolutions, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Contested deletion

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because... (this is my introduction.) --Tailoredcreditsolutions (talk) 08:39, 8 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • I think the big problem here is that you're doing this under the name of your company. I'm not going to block you outright, but I do think that it would be a very good idea to get a new username. You can follow the directions at Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple for this. The problem is that since you're editing under a company name, it gives off the appearance that you're here to promote the business. Your AfC contribution doesn't seem like you're here to intentionally do that, but it still makes it look like you're here on behalf of a company. Changing it to your real name is a suggestion, but you can make your name almost anything as long as it's not outright promotional and/or offensive. (Or already taken, but that's a given.) For example, you could change it to User:CreditGuy. It's a way to show your interests while not coming across as representing a company. As far as userpage stuff goes, you can mention some stuff but you have to be a little careful. You could rephrase what's on the page as "I own a company called Tailored Credit Solutions that does various credit related services. My goal here on Wikipedia is to help edit and create articles on credit related topics." You could also add things, such as a few things that interest you and a little bit more about yourself. You don't have to add too much or anything that would completely identify you, but it'd help take the edge off any worries about you being here for the company. Anywho, I hope this helps. Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

Requested username:

Request reason:

i didn't intend to advertise my business - I didn't realise that it was objectionable as it was only my user name. When I realised,I didn't know how to change it. I only chose it as it was aligned with the topic of my first article. I have financially contributed to wikipedia as I have found it to be a very useful source of information, and I wanted to add my own article contributions as well

Accept reason:

For username change; remember that you will not be allowed to write about your own organization. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 20:05, 9 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • I've put a request in on the username change page for you. I do believe that you were trying to operate in good faith as far as editing goes, which I've noted on the request. I can't change it myself, as you have to be a Bureaucrat to do it, but I hope they allow the name change. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:11, 9 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Hey, I declined this more because of the sourcing than anything else. The sources used just can't be used to show notability. The business dictionary website is the type that people might raise eyebrows at, but ultimately it's just a definition and doesn't really show notability. The other one, a listing of jobs, is generally considered to be the type that we shouldn't put on Wikipedia since it's in that weird limbo between "merchant source" and otherwise unreliable. Either way, both of these sources show that the job exists but doesn't really establish notability. A better source to use would be something along the line of coverage in a textbook, although there is an additional problem of whether or not the term should have its own article or should be included in the parent article about credit. If you can find enough sourcing that gives enough length to the profession we can justify its own article. It's kind of tricky when you get into the individual subjects like this. If the name change goes through, and I hope it does, I'd probably recommend checking into Wikipedia:WikiProject Finance to see if they can help find sources. What I'm running into as far as sourcing goes is that a lot of it is in textbooks, which don't always have previews up on the internet for me to see. WP Finance would not only give you a lot of like minded people to talk shop with as far as article editing goes, but they can help you find sources and whatnot. I'd probably recommend looking into joining if you get the name change- it looks like it'd be right up your alley. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:28, 9 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
