Help edit

Hello. I see that you left a {{helpme}} tag at Jr Mime's talk page. Is there something that you need help with? Danger! High voltage! 20:07, 10 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

RE:WP:AFC edit

Hello Valuser. The links you added at the bottom (newspaper, local) is all good. It just needs to be added to the correct references like showed here: Velir (company). I can't do it, since I do not know what link goes with what reference. After that, it looks all good.

Hi, Valuser. I am not 100% sure if the rules are the same for Great Britain as they are for the US, but for articles on settlements in the US, as long as you can provide one official government reference to the existence of the place, it will pass notability. That can include a census record for that specific place, an entry in an official government listing of place names, or even the existence on a map issued by a unit of government.

By the way, please don't equate the term "notability" with importance or fame. Notability is simply how we refer to our standard for inclusion here on Wikipedia (don't ask. I have no clue as to why that is).

That being said, your article still needs a lot of work. You should break it down into sections, with the initial section being a "lede", summarizing what the rest of the article says. Take a look around at some other articles on places. If you open them in the edit window, you should be able to see just how to code the various things you will need to format the article. If I can be of any help with technical stuff, don't hesitate to drop me a note. Gtwfan52 (talk) 21:55, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

In any case, notability is established by places or things or people or whatever being discussed in secondary sources...ie, newspapers, magazines or books. Seems like a project this big would be. And secondary sources are always preferred for anything. I help a fella over here that writes about small, small towns that don't even make most maps anymore. He uses the primary source of the official list of place names to show notability. But since your place seems more like a project than a place, secondary sources would be required, and I find it hard to imagine that something this interesting hasn't been covered somewhere. Keep in mind your sources don't have to be online, even though that is preferred. You can cite a paper newspaper or magazine by using the {{cite news}} template and that will serve just as well to show notability. I hope by now you realize that when we say notability, we are not referring to a thing's fame or importance; it is just the term we use here to say that it meets the standards of inclusion, WP:GNG and some other more specific ones for specialized subjects like movies and musicians. Good Luck. I will look in on your progress later this week and if it seems good enough to me, I will review it and pass it. Talk to you soon. Gtwfan52 (talk) 02:23, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Well, it appears we are now on a new issue. You can reference basic facts to company websites and you have done that just fine. Notability is a somewhat separate issue. That is reliable sources. To prove either controversial facts or to show notability, you must use reliable, independent sources. That pretty much limits you to newspapers, magazines or books, all of which have some sort of reliable fact checking in place. Academic journals are also acceptable for the same reason. Academic papers are generally not, because they have not been reviewed. These sources have to discuss your subject in a meaningful way; in other words, not just a quote form a principal about what they are doing. They also have to be completely independent of the subject of the article. This calls into question most trade journals, because for the most part, they just reprint press releases. As I mentioned before, this project sounds very interesting and I would think that some enterprising journalist should have written about it. That is what you need. It doesn't have to be online, you are more than welcome to cite a print version of a magazine of a newspaper. It doesn't necessarily even have to be in English. Good luck!
