Image copyright problem with Image:Halivni.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Halivni.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

WikiProject Israel userbox colors

Hi, I noticed you changed the border to a yellow color. Can you please point to a precedent? I checked out some other countries' WikiProjects and they don't seem to even have a userbox. Disengagement

I made the redirect Disengagement into a speedy deletion, because there had already been a vote for it. You can object on the talk page, but I will strongly object to the "confiscation" of the term for the Israel disengagement plan. It is a common general term and should remain that way. Epoch (reference date)

You recently edited the Epoch (reference date) article to state "The world was created around 3761 BCE (the year 0 in Judaism). The year, as of Rosh Hashanah 2006, is 5767."

First, I would like to ask if you can supply a source for this information? Information should be verifiable in a reliable source to remain in Wikipedia. Second, does your source indicate if these particular numbers are observed by all Jews, or if it varies by belief or region. Finally, you might want to rephrase it to state that Jews place the creation of the world in 3761 BCE, rather stating as a fact that the world was created in 3761 BCE; I seriously doubt you will get agreement even among all Jews that the world was actually created in 3761 BCE, never mind all the other readers of Wikipedia. --Gerry Ashton 17:38, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

why single out Jews?

Hello there. I see on the We Didn't Start The Fire page that you reverted my deletion. I really don't understand why jews, but not other ethnic or religious groups, should be listed this way - it seems very POV. And if you check the discussion page, you'll see that I wasn't the only one who felt this way. Rather than just rv your rv, I was hoping you could make a convining argument, preferably on that page so a consensus can be reached. Take care, Rasi2290

Re:Variety of tempaltes. I have the exact same problem, and have a tendancy to use the wrong templates or not even post warnings on talk pages, as I've noticed a lot of other people doing. However in this one instance I figured personal attacks should have a bit of a stronger stance. It also helps when another user notices warnings of a similar nature. aiv report

Thank you for making a report about Patrickwhatley (talk · contribs · block log) on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators are generally only able to block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize even after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. In this particular case, the user has only made an edit to wikipedia:introduction after the final warning, and that area is supposed to be edited by new users. Hey, coelacan. If you take a look at the log, there are two images that Patrickwhatley (talk · contribs · block log) uploaded after his final warning: "Image:M 1faf636f045c22857839189667fd0d27.jpg" and "Image:Lesbian couple.jpg". The captions for both were attack/libel so I sent a final violation to AIV after tagging the pics for CSD-G11 (they have since been deleted, which is why I have to rely on my Firefox history to locate the proof). Ahh! I see. Logs here. Potentially libellous, yes, and not good-faith uploads. I will indef block as a vandal-only account. I think many or most admins do not instinctively check upload logs, so you should probably call explicit attention to these things. And we can't see deleted pages unless we're pointed to them; they don't show up as redlinks in a user's contributions, or anything like that. So if you're reporting someone to AIV and their vandalism has already been completely deleted, be sure to point to where the deleted histories can be found. Thanks for clearing that up for me. As I mentioned on AIV: Final warning was in response to [1] at 00:47. He then vandalized yet again at 00:52, AFTER I sent the Final Warning, to which I responded with an AIV report. --Valley2city^₪‽ 01:11, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

CSD tagging of blanked articles

About the warning you issued to Janjanthecheerleadingman (talk · contribs), if the original author blanks an article that is already CSD tagged, you shouldn't revert it and warn the user, but instead change the tag to {{db-blanked}}. And just another suggestion, you might want to {{welcome}} new editors so that their first message is something friendly instead of a warning. We want people to want to help out, even if their first edit was a mistake. =) -- Gogo Dodo 04:05, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Do you think I still notify them by using a Level 1 general note as opposed to a bland welcome? What I do depends a lot of what the editor did. If it's a fairly innocent article creation and/or test edit, I'll leave the new editor a welcome sometimes skipping warning them entirely if it's something like simple like "test". However, if they do multiple test edits, I'll leave them a level 1 warning to give them a little nudge. If the first edits are vandalism or attack pages or something really bad, I'll skip the welcome entirely and jump right to the appropriate warning. It's a judgment call, but my opinion is to be nice to the ones who made AGF edits, but just didn't know the rules; don't be nice to the ones who are here to vandalize. =) -- Gogo Dodo 06:13, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Understood and your concerns are noted. As for the times I do not warn people for their CSD, those are on occasions that the article is such ludicrous vandalism that reminding them of the option to put a hangon tag would be a waste of time causing a backlog in CSD'd articles that really deserve an admin's glance. You are correct that I might on occasion choose the wrong CSD category; heck, we all do. However, I sometimes find that there is more than one category that an article may fall under and my understanding of CSD is similar to that of other wikipedia policies and guidelines as well as case law: there are many fuzzy gray areas and issues that don't fall under a predefined rubric. I just want to clean up Wikipedia from vandalism and vain fluff and I will continue for the time being through TWINKLE. --Valley2city^₪‽ 02:39, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
