Article V255 Canis Majoris

edit

This article requires a major rewrite in order to be encyclopaedic. I read it through several times, and I cannot understand what you are trying to say. Please expand the points into complete sentences, in some coherent structure. Otherwise, the article will be at great risk of being deleted soon.--Gronk Oz (talk) 11:31, 23 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of List of largest stars 2

edit

Hello V255 Canis Majoris,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged List of largest stars 2 for deletion, because it seems to be inappropriate for a variety of reasons.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Lithopsian (talk) 11:32, 23 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Your contributed article, List of largest stars 2

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, List of largest stars 2. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – List of largest known stars. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at List of largest known stars – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. The Average Wikipedian (talk) 13:01, 23 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your recent contributions. Getting started creating new articles on Wikipedia can be tricky, and you might like to try creating a draft version first, which you can then ask for feedback on if necessary, with less risk of deletion. Do make sure you also read help available to you, including Your First Article and the Tutorial. You might also like to try the Article Wizard, which has an option to create a draft version. Thank you. 220 of Borg 04:29, 24 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, talk pages are meant to be a record of a discussion; deleting or editing legitimate comments, as you did at Talk:List of largest stars, is considered bad practice, even if you meant well. Even making spelling and grammatical corrections in others' comments is generally frowned upon, as it tends to irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Tarl.Neustaedter (talk) 14:32, 10 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Please do not delete or edit legitimate talk page comments. Such edits are disruptive and appear to be vandalism. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Tarl N. (talk) 17:14, 2 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

If it's on a talk page, and you didn't write it, don't change it. See WP:TPO: The basic rule—with some specific exceptions outlined below—is that you should not edit or delete the comments of other editors without their permission.
I'll add that it also irritates other editors, because we have to review what you did. It's wasted effort - if someone made a typo in his talk page comments, let them fix their own typo, you shouldn't be doing it. Tarl N. (talk) 17:17, 2 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Okay, okay. Are those lager estimates even accurate? UY Scuti would be beaten that way.

Thank you for your recent edits to List of largest stars. However, your edits have been undone since the 1,650 R for NML Cygni was a rounded form of the ~1,640 R ( ), calculated from the Stefan-Boltzmann Law. Thanks. ZaperaWiki44(/Contribs) 11:59, 16 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm Donner60. I noticed that in this edit to List of largest stars, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Donner60 (talk) 03:41, 27 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Dude, we cannot have 2 VY Canis Majorises in the list. After all. The estimate of Humphreys had been removed.

I did not see that so I am striking the above message. However, editors may only see the edit and edit summary not the whole article when looking at recent changes in real time. With no explanation, it can fall under the category of unexplained deletion, even if there is a reason that could have easily justified the change. Please use edit summaries to prevent such misunderstandings or mistakes. Thank you. Donner60 (talk) 21:33, 27 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Also, the value of 1,708 Rsuns for UY Sct is considered to be dubious since it was based on a very old distance that is too large, inaccurate and especially it was made from the last century (in 1970). The Gaia Data Release 2 has recently given a closer distance and therefore much lower brightness and radius values. In this case, UY Sct is unlikely to be the largest star and is probably smaller than VY CMa. For more information see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Mu_Cephei#Size .88.188.215.39 (talk) 17:39, 8 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

If you want to change multiple radii on the page that have not yet properly been discussed, then add something in the talk page so that it can first be discussed to give reason to change the values. SpaceImplorerExplorerImplorer (talk) 14:18 5 January 2022 (UTC)
