Orphaned non-free media (Image:AC5Falken.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:AC5Falken.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:27, 28 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: Rewrite (visual novel)

edit

That's precisely why I'm so sure it's true. April 1 is the beginning of the Japanese fiscal year, and I've noticed that important announcements are made on this date for this very reason. For example, MediaWorks is planned to merge with ASCII on April 1, and that's been announced since last September. Also, the second anime season of Shakugan no Shana was announced last year on April 1. See Japanese calendar#April 1. Not to mention that Key has announced a 10-year anniversary project since the end of February, so I'm not worried about it's validity.-- 01:33, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

But notice how the blogger didn't put the Key announcement into the April Fool's blog post, but in another post entirely, plus he endorses Key as one not to fool around on April 1, and says they even announced the Clannad movie on April 1, 2006. I do realize that if anything is speculative, it'd be the scenario staff, but if it turns out fake, I'll just revert everything and put the article up for a speedy deletion.-- 02:06, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I would like your opinion on this. Key/Visual Art's has a copyright tag at the bottom of the official website for the game: http://key.visualarts.gr.jp/rewrite/rewrite.html. Would it be against the law to place a copyright tag on something that isn't actually copyrighted? As in, why would they go to the trouble to copyright the game if they weren't going to make it, unless they could do it without any ramifications, or any trouble.-- 02:27, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source for Image:Voices of a Distant Star DVD cover.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Voices of a Distant Star DVD cover.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 05:36, 21 April 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Collectonian (talk) 05:36, 21 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Delta, British Columbia Coat of Arms.gif. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Need help with DYK verification

edit

So, yeah, a few days ago I've nominated the visual novel article 5 for DYK, though Daniel Case wants someone with Japanese reading knowledge to verify the source, seeing that no one cares and it's expiring, I am wondering if you would be interested to verify it, if it's not done by someone else yet. (Even though Japanese reading knowledge really isn't needed) -- クラウド668 10:22, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Funny you should ask me...though I don't think a verification is needed any more since your entry is moved onto the next update queue. Congrats. _dk (talk) 11:30, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

So I did some minor editing here and there and left a note requesting clarification, hope you'll find it useful. _dk (talk) 12:23, 6 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your help, after looking at the difference I noticed how bad my grammar is. As for the confusion in the Plot and characters section, it means that Asumi and the two side characters Mako and Hikari are also side heroines, hopefully how it's worded now clears up the confusion, if not please change it. There are also a few things here and there that I disagree with, so I changed them, but if you think they are more suitable please don't hesitate to change it back. Again, thanks for your help, let's hope this will have a chance at GAN. -- クラウド668 13:23, 6 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Battle of Red Cliffs

edit
I have the article on my watchlist, as usual. If you're talking about something like the edit you just reverted there, I frankly don't know what to do with it, since it seems sourced and is reasonable, but such a big addition may tip the article off the FA scale. I've seen the same person (using different IPs) using the same sources to write long battle articles on the Three Kingdoms and the Chinese Civil War, but I haven't tried to verify them yet. (I suspect they're in Chinese) _dk (talk) 02:24, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I also note that his additions contradict the notion that the battle was supposed to be scarcely recorded in history. _dk (talk) 02:30, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
"Sourced" is a term I would clearly disagree with. He popped three sources at the end, then waterlogged the article with speculative crap. Read it all carefully. Somehow this guy has "deep knowledge" of information which makes everyone else's info erroneous. That's the major sin. Moreover, the crap he added is rife with trivia. I suspect it's a gamerboy (not our own beloved User:Gamer Junkie). Worst case scenario, it may be someone associated with the movie, trying to alter the article to make it resemble the movie... Ling.Nut (talk) 03:41, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
See above. Also look for sock puppets, e.g.:
Xingshi and Didao are very obscure battles in popular culture, so obscure that even the Romance of the Three Kingdoms didn't go into the details for those battles, even less so in video games. Having read the novel and played many games about the Three Kingdoms, I doubt he's writing things from a game. The thing that makes me suspicious, however, is how his "sources" could manage to attain such level of detail when the primary sources (Records of the Three Kingdoms et. al.) basically just skimmed over the battle. We won't know for sure until we can find those sources for ourselves. The speculative crap might have come from his sources too, considering the atmosphere in the Chinese military history field. _dk (talk) 05:13, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
yes yes yes and yes. It's neither a gamerboy nor an astroturfer from the film. It's a Chinese milhist fan using extremely dubious sources. He just reverted Red Cliffs; I left a message on his Talk. Ling.Nut (talk) 05:23, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'll say this -- at first glance, Battle of Didao appears to be consistent with, albeit in more detail than even I was aware of in the Zizhi Tongjian, although I have to look at it more tomorrow. Right now, my brain isn't functioning. It is quite possible that he's incorporated fictional elements, of course, but until I've had more of a chance to take a look at it, I can't be sure. I would suggest submitting a WP:SSP report. (Yes, I am an admin, although I'll say that I haven't been doing much admin-like things lately due to busyness in "real life.") --Nlu (talk) 05:43, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I do recall that there were users with similar user names who appear to act in similar behaviors, but can't recall what those names are at the moment. (Again, brain not really functional right now.) A SSP report may allow an admin who has better memory than I do on this issue to recall what those are. --Nlu (talk) 05:46, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I am well aware of the differences between the Western Gregorian and traditional Chinese calendar. For any Westerner such as myself who is knowledgeable in Chinese culture, who could forget that Chinese New Year celebration is not a simultaneous event with the New Year celebrated in Times Square, New York. (Hah). However, with the sources I use (which are 90% Western), they go by the Gregorian count, and this is what I assume English readers at Wikipedia will be expecting to see when they refer to dates in articles; I think many Westerners are unaware when the Chinese New Year is and that the months don't match up with the Western calendar, and so should not be expected to be well-versed in both. If Stargate wants to include the ancient Chinese dating method by reign era alongside the Gregorian, that's fine, but lets stick to Gregorian for the main dates so that English (and in extension, Western) readers who come to Wikipedia can expect to see dates in the format they are most or solely familiar with. Thank you.--Pericles of AthensTalk 03:01, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

About Kingdoms of the Han Dynasty, you are correct. It rants on and on about the kings as people and never about the political unit of a kingdom. I would certainly not object your moving of the article's title.--Pericles of AthensTalk 03:08, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
