Your departure

I'm done with Wikipedia as well for at least a few years. It's still a great reference material for checking facts, but I just don't think the Wiki process is possible. There are too many vandals out there and there isn't a way to stop them all. There's always a chance you could read completely false information. For deep research Wikipedia just can't hold a candle to commercial encyclopedias.

Well, that's my two cents anyway. I'm sure you don't care, but oh well. Good luck in life and whatnot. Voyaging(talk) 20:15, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

I'll see you soon, I hope, Tip. THE KC (talk) 21:29, 7 April 2008 (UTC).
Voyaging - sorry to see you leave, will be happy to start up where we left off when (and if) you return. Best of luck in your future endeavors. Tiptoety talk 23:00, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, well I've thought about it, and I'm not gonna be spending as much time here as I used to, but I'll still be here for a little while daily. Glad to see you're back too. I've gotta jog my memory, where exactly did we leave off as far as adoption? Voyaging(talk) 00:14, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Take a look at User:Tiptoety/Adoption/Voyaging. Glad to see that you are back! Tiptoety talk 00:15, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

so, should I just take RFPP, AIV, and UAA off my watchlist? You're getting them pretty well, don't you think? Well done, and thank you. - Philippe 03:18, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

User redirecting to IP page weirdness

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section.

This [1] seems very strange. A registered user is redirecting his pages to his IP address page. I came to you, since you were the one who made the last post there. Not sure if it's allowed, or makes sense, or anything, really. I just wanted to get an opinion on it. This guy seems determined to make a point. Redrocket (talk) 04:12, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

I think my point here is clear and I haven't disrupted anything except maybe your investigation into the matter. You have my IP, you have the edit history. Glad I could help Wikipedia and you learn something new here. -- 125.69.247.138
You know, I was wondering the same thing myself. I have never seen this done before and as such am not sure what the precedent is, and do not know any policy that prohibits a user from doing that (99% sure there is not). My recommendation is to take it to WP:ANI to get better help. Sorry, wish I could be better help. Tiptoety talk 04:15, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Do you see it as abusive? You have my IP. -- 125,69,247,138
It just not a very good idea to use more than one account. Tiptoety talk 04:29, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Is this your opinion or are you going to actually provide help by citing policy? I only have one account, this one. The other isn't an account, its what happens when I dont login. -- 125.69.247.138
Well because it appears that the IP you are using is shared by multiple users you should not redirect your username there, also using an more than one account (IP or not) to help push a certain opinion or idea (not accusing you of doing so) is not allowed per WP:UN. Tiptoety talk 04:35, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Where should we discuss this so that it isn't spread over several user's talk pages? -- 125.69.247.138 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.60.248.139 (talk) 04:37, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Here seems fine for the time being. Tiptoety talk 04:39, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Redirection

"Important: This talk page is becoming very boring. Please consider leaving hilarious knock-knock jokes so as to spruce things up a little. Thanks!" -- Tiptoety

Hi Tiptoety. Interesting username. Here is the response to your message on User talk:125.60.248.139:

Hi there, I am not sure it is the best idea to create a account with your IP address as you username and then redirect it here. Might just be better to use one or the other. Tiptoety talk 04:17, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Please explain why you think it is not the best idea and you're reason for giving me your opinion? -- 125.60.248.139

Bye

Even though I left a note at WP:AN I want to say personally good bye to you. You are a good admin with a good sense of humor. By the way sorry for getting you lectured on the 1st. Some people take volunteer work to serious. Anyways, Live Long and Prosper. Rgoodermote  04:37, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Please do not go, you are a great user, one who will someday make an excellent admin. Is there any way I can get you to reconsider. Oh, and don't worry about the "lecture", it comes with the mop. :) Tiptoety talk 04:39, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Elected Oregon

Hello fellow WikiProject Oregon folks and entities. Thanks to those who helped out with improving Vera Katz and History of Oregon during the last Collaboration of the Week! As you may have noticed, we have changed the banners a bit, but not our dedication to everything Oregon! This week, in honor of the political process, we have: Current Oregon Senate members & Current Oregon House members. Hopefully by November we can have an article on every current member of the Oregon Legislature. So feel free to turn a red link blue or expand an existing article. Since it is an election year, there should be plenty of newspaper stories. Plus, the state archives has this site that allows you to go back and see when they started serving and district info, plus at a minimum show they were a state legislator from a WP:RS. And per WP:BIO, all state legislator's are notable so no need to worry about AFD. As always, to opt out, opt in, or suggest future collaborative efforts, click here. Ok then. Thanks for telling me, I was unaware of that.   jj137 (talk) 17:55, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

No worries there bud, I just recently got yelled at for doing the same thing. I kind wish someone would have posted on AN or something. (There is a note about it in the UAA header if you are interested). Tiptoety talk 17:58, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
...Now I see it. Maybe they should have made it stand out a little more so that it can be more easily seen. It is hard to notice a simple addition to the template.   jj137 (talk) 19:11, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
I know, what the hell? Could they make it any smaller? Tiptoety talk 00:42, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Lakers

Whatever, the Lakers are a way better team than the Blazers. Their in first place in the Pacific Division and the Blazers are in third for the Northwest Division, what does that tell you? Oh, and I hope they lose to the Kings this Friday. ;) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 02:15, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

User:203.92.97.90

A block of 24 hours is a joke. This is a persistant vandal that's been blocked for six months twice in the last year, and now eight times in the last two years. At least six months would be appropriate, if not longer. Corvus cornixtalk 03:17, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Sometimes I am on autopilot. Thanks for pointing that out, changed to 8 months. Tiptoety talk 03:20, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Awesome. Thanks.  :) Corvus cornixtalk 03:21, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Done, keep up the sweet work! Tiptoety talk 04:20, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Buh?

Maybe you should spend your time trying to help the user in question, opposed to assuming bad faith and tagging their page

What ARE you going on about? Like, to pick a recent few:

What does "assuming bad faith" mean here? Do you mean overlooking the obvious? Pretending not to see spam?

Spam pages get tagged and deleted. Not a difficult concept, and handwaving about "bad faith" don't enter into it. --Calton | Talk 05:09, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

But a users talk page is not spam? Why not educate these newbs instead off tag their page as temporary , it pretty much says "I know you will be blocked, so lets just delete your page now". Tiptoety talk 05:11, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

RE: Userpage

Sure. What kind of design(s) were you thinking of? The Chronic 23:45, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Something a bit more, well...kinda like a mix between Rudget's, and Daniel's. But like always really clean and easy to read. Tiptoety talk 23:48, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Would you still like to retain your general color scheme (blue and yellow)? The Chronic 23:52, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
No, I want colors like the Featured article userbox has, also, take a look at AGK's userpage too. (The colors of the drop down boxes). Tiptoety talk 23:53, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Alright. I've decided to give you Daniel's page layout and Rudget's navigation bar (as well as AGK's UBX layout). Will that work for you? I'll get to fixing your userpage after taking a 10-minute Wikibreak (for real-life matter). The Chronic 23:56, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Okay, just make sure that the color is not blue like Daniel's (would hate to look to exact same) :). Thanks for you help....and will see when you get back from your "fast little break" :D Tiptoety talk 23:58, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I'm back (faster than expected). Okay, I'll get to work. As for a sig, what would you like (I was thinking for you something like Pedro's)? The Chronic 00:06, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Hmm....I want something a little more original, but not sure what yet. Let me thing on the sig. Tiptoety talk 00:09, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Okay. Would you also like the flexible ad template, or would you prefer to keep the one Oregon ad. The Chronic 00:15, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Actually lets just get rid of the ad. Tiptoety talk 00:16, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
One more thing: do you want to retain the clock? The Chronic 00:29, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
It does not matter that much to me. If it would make it easer for you to remove it, than remove it. The stuff I really want to stay, is the things actually on my userpage, like the info, userbox's, RfA stuff, and my admin desk links (I do not care how you organize those) Tiptoety talk 00:32, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, I'll be takinga one-hour wikibreak. In the meantime, you can see some of my progress through my contributions. The Chronic 00:39, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Ok, dinner time? Heh, same here (well in a min). I was already looking, I can not wait! Thanks! Tiptoety talk 00:40, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Here's your new sig (at least the closest I can get): tiptoety / ʎʇǝoʇdıʇ . The Chronic 03:15, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
For cleanup purposes (in that you don't really need these pages anymore), could you delete: User:Tiptoety/ImageLink, User:Tiptoety/Browse Bar, and User:Tiptoety/Barnstars (now in another location). The Chronic 03:26, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

"Who's there?" Tiptoety talk 04:43, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
The Blazers, who defeated the Lakers. And now ThinkBlue will be sad. The Chronic 04:47, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Hell Yeah! Lets go rub it in Blue's face! Lol. Tiptoety talk 04:47, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
No. The response is "The Blazers, who defeated the Lakers. And now ThinkBlue will be sad-who". Just kidding. Regarding unreplied past messages: 1) I'll try to darken the sig tomorrow, when I have time. 2) I've fixed up your admin desk some. Is it an improvement? 3) I'll try to make your UBXs like Rudget's tommorow, when I have time. 4) Get cable, when you get the chance, though free (illegal) cable would work for you too. The Chronic 04:59, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Hehehehehe :D Hey, thanks for fixing that for me, and feel free to take your time on everything else, you have already done a ton of great work today and I thank you for it. Now it is time for me to hit the hay, goodnight. Tiptoety talk 05:01, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Done with the UBXs. The Chronic 06:40, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Dude, thanks. It looks great. Tiptoety talk 14:16, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

For your sig, would tiptoety / ʎʇǝoʇdıʇ work? The Chronic 23:35, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Hmm.. Just to let you know, I am extremely picky when it comes to sigs. Um, what would happen if you just used my current sig and changed the colors? Tiptoety talk 23:37, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Then it would look something like Tiptoety talk . The Chronic 23:40, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

What if you used the kind of olive green/black color that you used on my nav bar for the lettering for the Tiptoety part and left the "talk" yellow? Tiptoety talk 23:42, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Tiptoety talk . The Chronic 23:45, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

BTW, would that new border color work, or would you prefer the old (just testing)? The Chronic 23:46, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, the border color is fine. Thank you for everything! Tiptoety talk 23:48, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
An interesting note for you is that you can automatically change your colors whenever you want by changing User:Tiptoety/Color 1 (background color) and User:Tiptoety/Color 2 (border color). Just thought you should know. The Chronic 23:51, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

To find the codes for the colors, you would have to browse the mainspace articles on colors to find the codes. The code would be the "Hex triplet" in the infobox. The Chronic 03:58, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

The muffin joke

Two muffins are baking in an oven.

Yeah, I have been having a whole crap load of days like that lately. (Hence why I almost left the project the other day). But that is what makes wikipedia so perfect, all the different voices, opinions, views, thoughts and they all come together to create somthing great. But there are days when I just wish people would shut the h*ll up and get out of my way, thats when I know its time for a break. :) Tiptoety talk 00:29, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

I know you know this but I noticed you tagged User talk:Multiroutecargo with {{usernameblocked}}, you should use {{subst:usernameblocked}} per WP:UW and WP:UTM. This is the same as for all warnings and block tags, otherwise they won't properly categorize the page and the notices will change when the template is changed which is not desirable for these types of templates. And only if you note that you stole it from me on your userpage :D (kidding again), thought I would recommend coming up with your own color scheme, you know be original. Brown and red would be nice. Tiptoety talk 22:08, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Ooops, I seem to do that all the time. *Hits self in the face* The 1 year is right next to the indef, and I just can never seem to click on the right one. Either way i fixed it, thanks for pointing it out. And the reason I was so speedy was because I was doing some RC patrol and reverted one of their edits, so I blocked before it was even reported. I am slick... I know :D Tiptoety talk 04:47, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Adoption lessons

Hey, Tiptoety. Just to let you know, I've written up a new lesson for my adoption program on how to use ParserFunctions. I've got it down as optional in my program, but since you're using everything else, I thought I'd let you know. :-) Here it is: User:Hersfold/Adopt/AdvancedTemplates. (And sorry I don't have any knock-knock jokes) Hersfold (t/a/c) 16:45, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for letting me know. :) Tiptoety talk 18:43, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Protection requested

Please semi the talk page of the vandal you just blocked. What a lunatic. Enigma message Review 18:55, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Just gave him a final warning, next time he makes any edits to his talk page that is not a unblock request will result in protection. I would protect right now, but its a school IP. Tiptoety talk 18:57, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, I warned him. Its protected now. Good work reverting all that crazy stuff. Tiptoety talk 18:58, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

bot

yes sir, coming right along... question, does this page get achieved or are you just removing requests as need be? if you are achieving them, i can have the bot move them to a new page like WP:UAA/holdingpen/username so that they are easier to archive. let me know. i should have it up for bot review soonsssssssssss. MatthewYeager 04:59, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Great! Yeah, we have not been archiving them, but just removing them by hand when the time comes along to do so. Though, an archive might not be a bad idea. Tiptoety talk 05:01, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Curious as to why it was not warranted

Dear Tiptoety, You opted not block an IP that posted in 3 occasions words with profanities. (See last post today [2]). It's obvious that this user originally wanted to add a name to the Canadian Olympic team and whether he had good intentions in the beginning of his edits or not, he has now become a rotten egg. Why not block this IP for one or two week and prevent what it's becoming a pattern? If it's a shared IP, it will be available later. If it's not, he will think twice about continuing his non-sense and might even become a productive editor. BTW, you may want to read a little discussion at the AIAV Talk page [3]. Jrod2 (talk) 18:26, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Because the IP is shared by multiple users and had only made one edit today then stopped after a final warning. I see no need to block when the user stopped editing on their own. Tiptoety talk 18:34, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Dear admin, I disagree, clearly the last 3 were made by the same user. Even the first three edits were made by the same user, after he got reverted or deleted, that's when he became irrational. I don't see what you see, but thanks for your reply. Best. Jrod2 (talk) 18:41, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
I try my hardest to assume good faith, and our blocking policy states that users should not be blocked if they stop vandalizing after a warning. If the user starts up vandalizing again today, then feel free to relist at WP:AIV. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 18:44, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Update: The user has been blocked by another admin. Regards. Jrod2 (talk) 19:00, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Hmm..well I am going to discuss that with the blocking admin. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 22:34, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

User:209.129.217.160

Hey Tiptoety, I made a report for the above user at WP:AIV after they vandalized after a final warning. According to the history there, you blocked them for 1 day, but for some reason it's not showing up on the IP's block log here. Strange. Is this just a glitch? Wisdom89 (T / C) 18:54, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Strange, because it defiantly did not just make the mistake of placing the blocked template on their page and not blocking because the bot picked it up. The only reasonable explanation is a glitch...strange.. Tiptoety talk 22:16, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I didn't think you made a mistake considering the history of AIV. I saw the message you left at the village pump, your question would be the same as mine. I'll keep an eye on that thread for a reasonable answer. Perhaps other administrators have been experiencing the same phenomenon? Is it appropriate to bring up at WP:AN? Or perhaps the discussion page at AIV? Wisdom89 (T / C) 22:35, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
AN may be a good place to let other admins know that this issue is happening, and notify them of the thread over at VP. I don't really see a need for a thread on WT:AIV since it really does not have much to do with that page. I have also been noticing recently that the server/database has been freezing up lately, locking everyone out from editing, maybe that has something to do with it. Tiptoety talk 22:37, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

One Night In Hackney

If you are on would you mind taking a look at User:One_Night_In_Hackney talk page. He seems to have retired...but that is not the problem. Before he "retired" he left quite the note on his talk page and userpage. I saw something at AN/I about it and decided to investigated (IP wasn't sure if it was telling the truth). He is threatening user from what I read. He also used a few choice words in his edit summary for his talk page. Thought I would tell you because no other admin seems to have noticed...yet. Rgoodermote  12:53, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Ignore this all together it has been handled. Rgoodermote  13:05, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Actually I am glad I sat that one out. I have had quite a few negative experiences with this user in the past, and while they have made good article contributions there attitude toward the whole project could use some working on. Not to mention I take offense to his userpage (I just see no point in creating a whole bunch of drama to get it removed). Sorry I could have not been of more help. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 14:33, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Regarding this

You're reply to one of my block requests was that User:216.73.65.65 had been insufficiently warned. I must ask how he has not been sufficiently warned, considering the amount of blocks that IP address has sustained within the past year (the most recent of which expired last month and it is already being misused). Yeah, but do we need to WP:ABF and have them blocked? There are tons of words out there that could be conceived as "inappropriate". How do we not know they where really referring to a beaver? Maybe I overreacted with the edit summary, and I appreciate you pointing that out. I just feel like there is some new thought that every users intentions are bad, and that not talking to them about it first is somehow wrong. Anyways, I could rant for hours :D Thank you for pointing that out. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 21:23, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Use of term Christian terrorist in Joe Scarborough article

I was referred to you by a very helpful user, TheProf. I was hoping you could advise me on this issue. I read the article on Christian terrorism and found it quite interesting. Shortly thereafter I read the article on Joe Scarborough and came to the part where he offered to defend an abortion doctor killer - subsequently convicted. It seemed to me the man mentioned (the killer, not Scarborough) fit the description of Christian terrorist and I added the term in front of his name. This stood for a long time and occasionally was deleted - I re-inserted it from time to time. But then recently it was deleted and labeled as vandalism. I understand it is not flattering to the subject of the article, but I think it is nonetheless accurate. Other references (external links) that I had added were also deleted without discussion. I will eventually let this issue drop but was wondering if you had an opinion or a perspective that you would be willing to share. Any comments or assistance would be appreciated. I don't want Wikipedia entries to be diminished due to fear of liability. I added a 'Special Comment' to this effect on the Scarborough Discussion page. Thank you and thanks to TheProf as well. 72.92.4.157 (talk) 21:36, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Note - Hello Tiptoety, i did recommend this anon IP user to you. Basically, i believe i've done all i can to help him and he now needs an administrators help. Cheers! TheProf - T / C 21:39, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
First I have no way of saying which one of you is correct and wont because I do not have any sources/evidence to support either one of your claims and know very little about the topics (the topics of the articles) in reference. The first step I would recommend seems to have already been done (by you) and that would be starting a discussion on both of the articles talk pages in hopes of solving the situation through consensus by providing reputable sources to back up your addition of this persons name within the article. Now as for your addition being reverted as vandalism I am going to tell you right now with a saddened heart that as an IP editor (like yourself), many users forget to assume good faith and talk with the editor in question, but instead revert it as vandalism, and for that reason I often recommend that you create an account. But, in defense of the user who reverted your edit, you need to cite sources when adding controversial content to any article, otherwise I can almost promise it will be removed. If you ever feel that you are wrongly accused of vandalism, feel free to bring it up with the accuser, or the user who reverted your edits. I hope I have been of some assistance. Let me know if there is anything else I can do, Tiptoety talk 21:45, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Just like to point out that i really don't care about the issue. Whether it goes in the article or not, I'm easy either way! I just wanted to help a very patient IP user :-) Another user actually reverted his edits as vandalism. When the IP user did confront him (by leaving a message on the reverting users talk page), i removed it, mistaking it for trolling. Hope you both have a nice night! TheProf - T / C 21:52, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
No worries TheProf07, we all make mistakes sometimes. Tiptoety talk 21:58, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your response. I will consider creating an account though I had been getting along ok until now without one - you make a good point, having an account and username may add some legitamcy to my edits. As far as sourcing the controversial reference, I was adding the the link to the actual Wikipedia article which is sourced though I understand the article itself (and the subject) is controversial. The only material I was adding was the link Christian terrorist. TheProf recommended I contact you as I have contacted 3 admins (inc. the original reverter) to discuss this and have received no response at all - so I appreciate your reply. 72.92.4.157 (talk) 22:12, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Okay, well you need to provide clear evidence on the talk page of the article that the two are linked and thus the wikilink should be added. There is ultimately not much I can do here other than recommend that you discuss this issue further on the article talk page with the users involved. If that does not work, or the parties involved do not wish to discuss the issue you can always request mediation. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 22:21, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

I heard from another admin on the talk page of the Joe Scarborough article. I think a conversation there has begun, as you suggested. Thank you for your help and advice. 72.92.4.157 (talk) 13:42, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
