Fair use rationale for Image:EldoradoCheer.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:EldoradoCheer.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. List of United States cities by population edit

The population estimates for all of the cities are from 2006. This source is where the population number was found. If Albuquerque's population is updated, then all of the cities would have to be updated and we do not have statistics for all of them. I've reverted your edits. Thanks. That is called VANDALISM....

When the 75.161.36.138 (talk · contribs) changed "30" to "40"...that is called vandalism. They just get their kicks by doing such things. Like tagging buildings with spray paint. Consider it "virtual tagging". ~ WikiDon (talk)

Just saying hello, since we're sort of neighbors—I live in Española. —JerryFriedman (Talk) 04:28, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, Tom! The camera does all the work (automatic focus, exposure, anti-shake). I just point it. And then I rotate the image with the GIMP, since I always seem to tilt the camera.
I've been following what's going on at the Chimayo article, and I think you're going to have to let Nyttend have his or her way on "official name" for a while. There's a source for "CDP", and no one's found a source for "town". The thing to do is find a source for "Town of Chimayo", maybe the Sun or something from the town commissioners. Or a source for the legal definition of "town" in New Mexico. Then there could be a really interesting discussion. But if you keep putting "town of" in without a source, someone will get called in to referee and they'll side with the source.
Anyway, I'm glad there's someone else here working on northern New Mexican articles! —JerryFriedman (Talk) 05:16, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I teach at SFCC. I taught at Northern for eight years, and I still know a few people there, but they never came up with a full-time job for me.
I saw at your user page that you're at the big school. That means it will probably be easier for me to look up back issues of the Rio Grande Sun than for you. But I'm not going to be able to do it right away.
Good luck with the poli sci! Does that mean I'm going to see your name on an election poster the next time we need a "young guard"? —JerryFriedman (Talk) 03:05, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've known the dude for a while. In fact, he asked and I went to see his squad the first day of their competition.--Taostiger (talk) 02:41, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

TomSalazar Chat?! 8:53 MT, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Hmmmm.....a jock? Me too, I played football and ran track. I gotta hand it to your x-country runs, I HATED practice with them, it ALWAYS kicked my ass. Yeah, Leo was all disappointed cause they fell, but they bounced back. He has ALOT of patience with the kids. I like him he's a real cool dude. Speaking of jock or in my case wanna-be, I'm gonna get my fat buns out there and jog with a friend of mine in a bit at UNM. I eat way too much Stop-n-Eat and other things that I need to this....he he. So, if I don't get a chance to reply you know why. Thanks for letting me play at your house for once.....lol. Ya i was sorta a jock..i had a jacket full of patches and pins haha. When i was in cross country at Espanola it was so rough man.. we would run non-stop everyday Morning and after school! Up those hills on the back of the school it was murder but we took third my sophomore year and junior and senior year we took second, we could never get the championship we were so damn close!! but it was so fun man and basketball too we won districts twice and made it to the quarterfinals. And hahaha my favorite place to eat is wendy's the #4 hahah or Long John Silvers lol!!

Use of non-free image on your user page edit

The university logo you are using on your user page is a non-free image that is present for fair use purposes as explained on the page for the image (the one you get to by clicking on the image). It isn't suitable for use on your user page. That is why another user removed that image. I'm not going to remove it myself because you may be right about whether or not it was appropriate for somebody else to edit your user page (I'm not sure). I do think you need to remove that image, though. Erechtheus (talk) 00:23, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I should have notified you of the policy violation and simply asked you to remove the image from your user page. For that breach of etiquette, I apologize. You have now been informed, and I'll reiterate that the relevant policy is WP:Nonfree, which states that nonfree images may only be used in articles, that is they are not allowed on user pages. I am now asking you to please remove the image. Aleta Sing 00:41, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yearbook image edit

Hi Tom, to answer your question: no one's disputing that you took the photo. The problem is that the yearbook cover itself is subject to copyright, and you aren't able to release that under a CC-license. (Presumably the school owns that copyright.) You can discuss it further at the PUI image page where the image is listed. Aleta Sing 03:57, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

oh..ok well i know the person who designed the front and i dont think there is a copyright for it. TomSalazar Chat?! 10:03 MT, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
I think there automatically is under US law - you don't have to claim your copyright for it to exist; rather you specifically have to give it up. The image could probably (?) be used as fair-use, but not released under CC unless the school releases it that way. I suggest any further conversation about this take place at the link I gave you as we've now pretty much plumbed the depths of my copyright knowledge, and at PUI are people who know much more about it. Aleta Sing 04:10, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Just giving some plain advice on two two possibilities that will get the image kept:
  • Claim that the image cover is fair use. I don't know if that'll keep it from getting deleted since the yearbook is only given minimally mentioned in the article. If you want to do this, just ask, and I'll add all the correct tags. Like I said though, I don't know if it'll keep it from getting deleted.
  • or, get the designer of the cover to release it freely, as described at WP:COPYREQ.
If you need help with this or have other questions, feel free to ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions‎ --Rat at WikiFur (talk) 09:57, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Tom - my two cents: start the talk page for this site Talk:2008 New Mexico Congressional Election, District 3, and start a discussion about the reverts and changes. could you please do me a favor? edit

Hello,

I am a master student at the Institute of Technology Management, National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan. Currently I am wrapping up my master thesis titled “Can Wikipedia be used for knowledge service?” In order to validate the knowledge evolution maps of identified users in Wikipedia, I need your help. I have generated a knowledge evolution map to denote your knowledge activities in Wikipedia according to your inputs including the creation and modification of contents in Wikipedia, and I need you to validate whether the generated knowledge evolution map matches the knowledge that you perceive you own it. Could you please do me a favor?

  1. I will send you a URL link to a webpage on which your knowledge evolution map displays. Please assign the topic (concept) in the map to a certain cluster on the map according to the relationship between the topic and clusters in your cognition, or you can assign it to ‘none of above’ if there is no suitable cluster.
  2. I will also send a questionnaire to you. The questions are related to my research topic, and I need your viewpoints about these questions.

The deadline of my thesis defense is set by the end of June, 2008. There is no much time left for me to wrap up the thesis. If you can help me, please reply this message. I will send you the URL link of the first part once I receive your response. The completion of my thesis heavily relies much on your generous help.

Sincerely

Speedy deletion of Image:McCurdy Girls Basketball.jpg edit

A tag has been placed on Image:McCurdy Girls Basketball.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free image with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria.

If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the image can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{non-free fair use in|article name that the image is used in}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the image. If the image has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:McCurdy Girls Basketball.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Proposed deletion of NMAA District 5-3A edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article NMAA District 5-3A, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Not notable in itself, as one of numerous classifications and alignments of New Mexico Activities Association; article is unsourced; most material here is already included in New Mexico Activities Association and List of New Mexico Activities Association championships; article appears to effectively be an orphan (all references appear to be indirect through Template:NNAA 3A)

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. no evidence of notability; unsourced; 2-AAAA is one of numerous divisions and alignments of New Mexico Activities Association and does not need its own article; article is primarily the work of User:Thomasalazar, a sockpuppet of User:PoliticianTexas, who was subsequently community-banned from Wikipedia

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy).
