Re: A Journey

I read it in my local newspaper (NYT supplied the newspiece), but you can read it online at http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/09/world/europe/09blair.html. Tthe sales figure is for the hardbound UK sales; other figures are for the US number of prints. Jappalang (talk) 12:23, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Hello, This is cre666, the teacher that was trying to make a point. I just wanted to apologize to you and your colleagues. I am glad to see that wikipedia is being monitored fairly closely, I had not realized it was monitored as closely as it is. Would I be able to ask a few questions about your work and Wikipedia? Please let me know, Cre666 (talk) 22:54, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

PediaPress renderer for Wikipedia Books

I thought you might be interested in this. Basically, this would give you access to the PediaPress renderer used to print books and should allow you to review book as they would be printed (minus covers). If you find errors and problems, please report them at Help:Books/Feedback.

You either received this message because

  • You edited several books

Article creation

Good start with the article creation of The Secrets of Scientology. :) You might want to add a few more sources, example, [1] -- Cirt (talk) 21:56, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, there's some good information we can use here. I'll make a start on expanding it a bit more. Cheers TheRetroGuy (talk) 22:04, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
Great! -- Cirt (talk) 22:12, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Amy Scobee, careful with this one, you created it as a totally unsourced BLP. Strongly recommend having a WP:RS cite to a secondary source, after every single sentence. -- Cirt (talk) 23:00, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

ok, thanks for the heads up. I've added the BBC ref to the end, but will add it to the first sentence as well. Hope this is all right. Cheers TheRetroGuy (talk) 23:01, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

FYI, I included you in credits for a DYK nom, under Template_talk:Did_you_know#Articles_created.2Fexpanded_on_September_28. Cheers, -- Cirt (talk) 18:22, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

As I'm not familiar with the subject I don't think it's a good idea for me to vote. I notice you adding a lot of these messages, so it might be a good idea for you to read this essay as canvassing tends to be frowned on. TheRetroGuy (talk) 20:14, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Sausage roll

Regarding this, Greggs do indeed make fine sausage rolls. Having moved to the USA from the UK in 2001, I probably miss a good sausage roll more than anything. Greggs in Wandsworth used to sell 5 for a £1. I have no idea what the IP editor was trying to do though. -- Scjessey (talk) 12:42, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure what he was doing either, particularly as he didn't spell it correctly, but on the subject of good sausage rolls, I can highly recommend the ones from Marks & Spencer which taste great hot or cold. Incidentally I've just bee looking into this and was quite surprised to learn the US don't have sausage rolls as we know them in the UK.[2] They don't know what they're missing out on. :) TheRetroGuy (talk) 10:33, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
I make sausage rolls myself, but they are not as good as the real thing because the quality of the sausage meat is poor here. Sausage here is quite spicy - sort of in the Italian style. I prefer the milder, fattier sausage we get in good old Blighty. I'm quite partial to some sage and onion sausage too. Agreed on the Marks & Sparks sausage rolls, but nothing is quite like a bag purchased at around 7am from the bakery. Except maybe a bacon roll from a van parked in a layby on the A3 just south of Petworth, or maybe the bacon and onion cheeseburger (with fried egg) that sits in the car park at Biggin Hill airfield when they've got an air show on. -- Scjessey (talk) 14:36, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
More thoughts on good food. I had a great all day breakfast last week at a cafe near Nuneaton at a place called Hoar Park. Well worth a visit for anyone in the Birmingham/Warwickshire area. TheRetroGuy (talk) 18:14, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Succession boxes

FYI, there's some discussion about this on my talk page and a proposal here. 28bytes (talk) 18:01, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Cheers for that. I think it's a good idea so have added my thoughts. TheRetroGuy (talk) 18:11, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Succession boxes

The removal is hardly without reason. This has been a long ongoing discussion at WT:CHARTS#Succession boxes. Your input is welcome and encouraged there, but general opinion favors their removal from articles for songs and albums that reached number one. --Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars (talk) 20:11, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

You are precisely right, there has never been any consensus to have succession boxes for these types of articles. --Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars (talk) 07:25, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

A Journey

Thanks! I'm trying to go through and referenece and do a through copyedit of the article to bring it to GAN, and possibly FAC at a later date. I had a look through the history and the work you've done on it is brilliant. If I'm honest, I haven't read the book myself, but probably will end up doing so in the future :-). Regards, wackywace 14:19, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Cool, I think it will make a great FAC. Good luck with it. TheRetroGuy (talk) 13:27, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks again, I would certainly welcome you as a co-nominator should you wish to be one. Regards, wackywace 13:44, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
I'd be happy to do that. Let me know when you want to put it forward and I'll take a look at it. Cheers TheRetroGuy (talk) 22:09, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
Will do :-). Regards, wackywace 14:58, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

Andrew Peach - Again!

Can we please protext Andrew Peach's page without the information of him being on 5-Live, as this is untrue. We discussed this individual months ago with the Radio 2 battle. He is bigging himself up, adapting his own page, and trying to sound great. He is a local radio presenter trying to look good. I am not having my staff doing this! I am remaining nameless. --93.96.66.172 (talk) 13:05, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Don't you guys at the BBC have anything better to do than carry on some silly argument which I personally lost interest in months ago? I think having the page added to the pending changes log is probably the best solution in the long run. Someone can check it out before the edit is allowed. What we really need to do is find some reliable sources for this article instead of arguing about whether or not he's a national or local presenter. Now no more of this nonsense please. TheRetroGuy (talk) 17:39, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Check my new post on the Andrew Peach talk page. I have clearly stared my views. I have a source who will be able to give you the facts but nobody is chasing it up! He has a big ego, and is giving out FALSE facts! A few things to mention; Jonathan Ross no longer works for Radio 2, so some references are untrue, and also he hasnt had much work at Radio 2. Ask Alan Dedicoat (alan.dedicoat@bbc.co.uk) and he will tell you he hasn't been there in months! --93.96.66.172 (talk) 11:08, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

I'm afraid this is starting to become a bit of a head----, so I'm bowing out of the debate. I've tried to mediate time and time again, but nobody seems prepared to compromise, so I'm moving on. I'm taking the page off my watchlist so won't see any changes from today. The article is on the pending changes log and that should enable it to be kept in some kind of order. TheRetroGuy (talk) 12:46, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Burley

Fair enough but I couldn't find any mention of this incident on the Guardian's rolling report of the tuition fee vote and that was the only place I looked, I assumed somebody would add a source later. She most certainly did say it, she didn't elaborate, she just called the protestors insurgents, she didn't seem to explain the remark as far as I can remember, it's attracted quite a bit of comment on twitter apparently. I imagine it will be mentioned in the Guardian or some similar media, if I can find a source later I'll re-add it. 92.8.71.255 (talk) 19:35, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

RFC courtesy notice - succession boxes

As someone who has taken part in previous discussions regarding the use of succession boxes in articles for songs and albums, I'd like to notify you of a request for comment that is taking place at WT:CHARTS#Request for comment: Use of succession boxes. It would be nice to finally come to a resolution on this. If you have already participated in this RFC or do not wish to participate, then please disregard this notice. Thanks. --Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars (talk) 00:29, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. Without looking at it I get the feeling I may have commented on this in the ast, but I'm happy to take a look at it, and if I haven't added my thoughts to this discussion will be pleased to do so. Cheers TheRetroGuy (talk) 12:58, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Editing the Vinux Page

Hi thanks for the clarification, I am completely new to editing wikipedia so feel free to give me a slap on the wrist if I step out of line. I will try to add more, but I need to find some more references external to the Vinux related websites themselves so there can be no accusation of bias etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Drbongo42 (talkcontribs) 16:33, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Mirren

It is not want the subject of this articles considers herself to be - actor/actress - but what is supported by reliable sources. If the mjority of sources call her an actress, then this is what we report in Wiki. --BwB (talk) 17:05, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
