Meerkat Manor edit

In Meerkat Manor, please let us discuss (in Talk:Meerkat Manor#Season three) whether or not to include Season Three matter, rather then the current edit war continuing. Anthony Appleyard 06:29, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Lackadaisy edit

A tag has been placed on Lackadaisy, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as articles for deletion. If you can indicate how Lackadaisy is different from the previously posted material, or if you can indicate why this article should not be deleted, I advise you to place the template {{hangon}} underneath the other template on the article, and also put a note on Talk:Lackadaisy saying why this article should stay. An admin should check for such edits before deleting the article. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 4 under General criteria. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. We welcome your help in trying to improve Wikipedia, and we request you to follow these instructions. Pekaje 18:59, 23 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Adopted edit

OK, you're adopted, what do you want to learn about? —dgiestc 16:37, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oh, small thing I noticed, generally new messages on talk pages belong at the bottom of the page, not like this. —dgiestc 22:33, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oh, ok. I didn't know that.

  • Hmm, I saw your message, thanks. Right now, I'd like to learn a bit about making templates, do you know much about that? Thekittybomb 22:34, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
    • I know a lot about templates. A template is basically a page which is transcluded or substituted onto another page. The transclusion can also use variables and/or pass them to parser functions. Did you have a more specific question? —dgiestc 22:45, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
      • Right now, just on normal things, how to make a box change the background color, change fonts, stuff like that. I kinda know how to make boxes like this:

but I'd like to know basic stuff, just to know how to build a template. --Thekittybomb 22:50, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Making a template edit

  1. Decide what you want it to do and pick a name for it
  2. Perform a quick check that there isn't already something that does what you need it. Try looking at existing related templates and see if something in the same category does what you want.
  3. Create a new page, such as Template:The Name For My New Template (don't actually create that!)
  4. Start editing it to make what you want, you can preview the template, but your changes won't actually show up in any pages it's used on until you save and reload them.
  5. Use you template by transcluding or substing it onto pages by adding {{The Name For My New Template}} or {{subst:The Name For My New Template}}

Done! —dgiestc 22:57, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • Thank you! I'll look around, expairament a bit, and try to come up with a template that helps! I'll let you know if I need more help. --Thekittybomb 23:00, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
    • Another thing, when replying, please use an asterix * or colon : to force the comment onto a new line, it makes it easier to follow the conversation. —dgiestc 23:37, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Checking in edit

Just checking in. Is everything going OK? Any questions? —dgiestc 18:42, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oh, everything is ok. I haven't visited in a while, and yes, I do have a question. What type of programing language is used for writing Wikipedia bots? --Thekittybomb 21:17, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Many different languages can be chosen from, although a lot use the PyWikipediaBot framework in Python. For more info, see Wikipedia:Creating a bot. —dgiestc 21:33, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. If I have another question, I'll ask you. --Thekittybomb 21:55, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Survey edit

Hi Thekittybomb!

I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!

It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!

Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!

Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Wikipedia! Thank you! Notification of automated file description generation edit

Your upload of File:BranstartExpand copy.gif or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks!
