All I did was add an image to the article. Yeah my edit summary did use a pun but it still added good content nevertheless. So I've readded the image with a better caption and edit summary. 192.138.137.220 (talk) 17:14, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Don't accuse people of vandalism ...

... before having read their edit completely: [1]. It's not vandalism in any way. Thanks, 131.152.41.173 (talk) 14:50, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

(edit conflict)I hardly call adding "bullshit bingo" to the first line of an article a constructive edit. If it is a real term, you need to provide a source other than a Google search link, and it needs to be in the article, not in a edit summary. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 14:54, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
  • I can understand where he might have figured that was vandalism. No where else in the article does it say anything about the new term. I would ask you to WP:AGF as well sir, it was a good faith mistake. Don't bite. -- Crazysane (T/C\D) 14:53, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Well ... You're completely right. The term is popular, discussed at the discussion page of the article and I got a bit annoyed after I was reverted by a bot first, then by User:The Thing That Should Not Be. So forget what I wrote above. :-) --131.152.41.173 (talk) 15:06, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
@The Thing: Your answer leaves me a bit puzzled. But I don't feel like arguing, so I'll leave it. Have a nice day. --131.152.41.173 (talk) 15:06, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
The use of the term is, at best, unclear. It seems like it's more of a variation of the original game... If you can find a reliable source to back up that it's an alternate name, then you could either add it or bring it up on the talk page. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 15:10, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Ok, but actually actheists are trying to push their point of view that God doesn't exist... That actually must mean that I am not pushing anything like my point of view, but people like you - DO, because you "think" that such contribuitions cannot be in wikipedia... So you are contradicting yourself... That is very unhealthy... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.132.239.216 (talk) 16:44, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Custom Huggle

What is your custom Huggle configuration? Just curious, because it seems useful. Access Denied talk contribs editor review 17:26, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

I use a version that is compiled to use configuration pages in my userspace rather than at Wikipedia:Huggle/Config. It allows me to specify certain settings that I want without affecting everybody else. In particular, I have mine preload 40 diffs instead of the normal maximum of 5, which speeds things up significantly. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 17:30, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Give up, you don't have much hope against someone who by his own admission spends about 300 milliseconds looking at your contribution before deciding what to do with it. Gurch (talk) 11:43, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict)I was going to suggest putting the article up for AFD, but it looks like you've already done so. Your AFD page was malformed, however, but I have fixed it for you. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 12:13, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
Gurch, that comment was not necessary and was BITEy for both him and me. As I said above, I don't blindly revert... if something looks suspicious, I take a closer look, as everybody should. And I'm not the only one to revert, several people reverted the removal of the content on that page. Huggle

Why do your edit summaries say "HG (Custom)"? Gurch (talk) 20:14, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

I believe I have explained before that I use a custom version of Huggle, one that I've recently compiled myself. It uses configuration pages in my userspace rather than at WP:Huggle/Config. Why do I do this, you ask? Because I can set some options that normally can't be set, without affecting everybody else. Also, setting my config in this manner has the desirable trait my Huggle preferences actually staying set the way I want. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 20:21, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
I realise that. I was asking why you feel it necessary to put that in every edit summary; you aren't making your changes generally available so it's not like anyone might want to use it. (Also you seem to have set preloading to 40 in your configuration. I doubt the servers are very happy with that. Hopefully you've changed the user agent too so Huggle doesn't get blacklisted.) Gurch (talk) 08:39, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
I use that summary to indicate that I don't use the regular version... Also, I've checked the user agent in my global config page, it matches the regular global config. I assume you want me to change it to something different? (I've just done so) Though in all the time I've used it, I've never had a problem with the servers blacklisting it. And right now I'm tinkering with the preload setting to see what will work best for me without setting it so low that it slows things down. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 12:49, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
The value of the preload setting is the number of diffs in the queue that you have not yet seen that are loaded in advance. Two is usually more than sufficient. Setting it to 40 will basically cause Huggle to load a diff for every revision, many of which you will never see. This means 2-3 requests per second, and anything up to 40 simultaneous requests, both of which are above what the developers advise. Gurch (talk) 20:43, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
2!?!? 2 is far, far, far less than sufficient for me. 5 isn't even sufficient for me. I usually go through about 1 page every second, sometimes 2 or more every second. On my connection, at 2 preloads, I would never be able to stand to use Huggle. I set it to 20 earlier, and that seems to work just fine, and I plan on going down to 15 tomorrow to see how that works out. And I know what the preload setting is... there was no need to remind me. And... "cause Huggle to load a diff for every revision, many of which you will never see." I usually empty my entire queue in around 10 minutes if the queue has around 200 pages in it and the Edits per minute is around 150-180. So I do eventually see virtually every revision in my queue. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 04:14, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
While you are going through your queue, some of the revisions disappear from it without you viewing them, because the page has been edited again. Thus the diffs that were loaded for them are never seen. Yes, you may usually go through one page every second. (More than two leads me to suspect you are not looking at things thoroughly). That has no bearing on the preload setting. If preloading is set to 2 then the queue looks like this:
  1. diff will be preloaded
  2. diff will be preloaded
  3. another revision
  4. another revision
When you actually come to view #1, Huggle will start loading the diff for #3. This is sufficient to never have to wait long for a diff to load provided they take no more than about 2 seconds to load. If you view revisions at the rate of one per second and you feel the need to set preloading to 20, that implies that it takes 20 seconds to load each diff. That should not be the case; if it is, then it's probably because 18 of those seconds are spent waiting for a connection to be freed up because they are all being used to preload other diffs. (Huggle can only make 4 concurrent Web requests, this is enforced by the framework). Alternately, it may be because you are trying to view a diff for a page that's using flagged revisions, in which case it will always take 20 seconds because the reviewers apparently don't give a shit about performance as long as they get to control who edits. Preloading won't help there. Gurch (talk) 11:41, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
"This is sufficient to never have to wait long for a diff to load provided they take no more than about 2 seconds to load." That is not the point, I don't want to have wait 2 seconds for anything to load... I want it to load as soon as I hit the spacebar. A higher preload setting does that perfectly. With some pages, there's a small but noticeable lag because they just barely appeared in RC, but that's normal. With a lower preload like 2, the amount of pages that experience that lag is increased so that there's a bit of a lag every 3 pages, which is quite annoying. I don't feel like dealing with that. And, after doing this for 2 years, I can quickly spot what is or isn't vandalism. Another factor is my loading speeds. Loading instantly means I don't have to wait any amount of time for a diff to load so I can look at it. Rarely do I go through more than 1 revision every second, and I often take a closer look at diffs that look suspicious before reverting. I don't just blindly revert the very second I look at something. Do you see very many people complaining that I reverted something I wasn't supposed to? I don't. Yes I do make an occasional mistake, but if I do, I revert myself and remove the warning, and on the off-chance that I don't and someone contacts me, I go to fix it as soon as I get wind of it. Anyways, 15 preloads has worked out for me so far, so I'm going down to 10 to try that. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 12:12, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
Two things: first, carefully reread what Gurch is trying to say, because of the way diff   loads after viewing diff   he's not saying you have to wait 2 seconds after hitting spacebar to go from   to  . Secondly, considering who Gurch it is well worth heeding his Huggle advice Jebus989 10:31, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

It still causes problems if I have a low preload setting, because I am able to go through the queue so quickly that, if I have the preload set at two, the diff views lag for a second after I go through the first two until it manages to preload the next two. Then I go through those two, and it lags until it manages to preload the next ones, and the cycle repeats itself, and it's very annoying and counter-productive to my work. I've set it at 10, which works fine for me, and that shall be the end of it. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 13:05, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

The Thing +1

The Thing. I came out of what would of been a wikibreak. :P Anyways I just wanted to say I fully support the way and method of using Huggle. IP Vandal messing around with warnings

65.125.253.34 has somehow managed to evade a level 3 warning, despite the fact that he/she has received four warnings already this month, I will manually report to AIV next time, but do you have any idea how this could happen? Ronk01 talk 16:59, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Normally, warnings are only... active for a day or two. Most programs go back to warning initially with a level 1 warning after that time. This is because there is the possibility that an IP might be transferred to a completely different person, vandal or not, in around that timespan. In addition, escalating warnings are usually made for active vandals. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 17:23, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Help!

On the Harvard Law School website, user chensiyuan keeps deleting edits made to the section on rankings. He continuously inserts two "rankings" - one of which hasn't been published for more than a decade, and which isn't mentioned anywhere else, and the other of which is not a school ranking, but a list of the number of downloads of papers on one website (it's fine to mention that somewhere, but deceptive to call it a school ranking, which it doesn't purport to be). I think he's engaging in something like vandalism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.192.165.224 (talk) 13:04, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Requesting a username be deleted...

Hi TTTSNB, I was wondering how one would request a username to be deleted (or what the proper thing to do/request would be) in the case of User:Papita_Inc

  • "Hello, as it was required I already signed in with a new username (Papita Naranja) so this account can be canceled anytime from now on. An apology for the inconvenience and still thanks for the notice. Papita Inc. 4:20 pm, Today (UTC−4)"

RFC for Man

Hi. In the light of the current dispute regarding the inclusion of an image in the article Man, and the heated exchanges that have led to the need to temporarily protect the article, I have started an RFC at Talk:Man#RFC: image in article. Please do add your opinion, and hopefully we can achieve a policy-based consensus. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 21:21, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Hataw Pinoy Philippine Summer Festival of Vancouver, BC

Hello The Thing That Should Not Be. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Hataw Pinoy Philippine Summer Festival of Vancouver, BC, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Article claims coverage in reliable sources. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 03:54, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

Yes, the article is fine now, it looks like they found some and added them after I tagged it. Thanks for letting me know. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 12:31, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
Umm, just so you know, A7 is nothing to do with sourcing... the claims don't have to be supported by reliable sources. - Kingpin13 (talk) 12:40, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
In the state the article was when I tagged it, it did not seem to assert notability. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 12:51, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)Thanks for the excellent idea for Huggle. What specifically does your custom set up do to the default Huggle. And can I use the code for my huggle fu?--Talktome(Intelati) 18:56, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

My custom setup simply links to configuration pages in my userspace rather than at WP:Huggle/Config. It lets me set certain preferences that I otherwise wouldn't be able to set, like raising the preload limit higher than 5. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 12:51, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Jeffrey Jones

Sorry, but I don't think that sending me a boiler plate template message is the right way to go about my edit. If you noticed, many pages mention the fact that a person is a convicted felon right in the introduction, even if it is not the main reason why someone is known. I made that edit to Jeffrey Jones because he just pleaded guilty to a felony (and had already been convicted of another felony previously). In fact, nowadays, it is arguable whether he is known more as an actor or as a registered sex offender. In any case, sending a boiler plate template suggesting my edit is not constructive is arrogant, especially since it's true, verifiable (it's also already mentioned with a reference further down in the article), and follows the format of so many other Wikipedia articles.190.247.167.97 (talk) 00:06, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Fixed, sorry for the inconvenience. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 02:34, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

What?

Those were logical edits. Get off your high horse. Just because you edit wikipedia doesn't mean you can do what ever you want. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.243.136.78 (talk) 17:47, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) No they weren't. Please stop vandalizing pages. Jarkeld (talk) 17:51, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict)That is doubtful. In your edit before the one I reverted, you changed someone's last name from "Bower" to "Boner". And a ten-fold increase in population in only a few years is dubious, particularly without a source. (The current source has no records for the 2010 census yet.) The Thing // Talk // Contribs 17:53, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Okay, Sir (you seem to be the King of Wikipedia) you got onto me about something with "SpikeToronto". I was having a discussion with him that you should have stayed out of. Doesn't involve you. Quit vandalizing my page. 17:58, 1 October 2010 (UTC) Mr. Jones. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.243.136.78 (talk)

Telling people to "Get off your high horse." is not considered constructive on Wikipedia, and are borderline personal attacks. Stop vandalizing and attacking other editors. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 18:03, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Usually, blocks are reserved for persistent disruption, such as someone actively vandalizing more than one article in a short period of time. The only cases where a user is blocked immediately is if they are engaging in severe disruption, or if the username or IP is being used by a known long-term abusive vandal. As the person you mentioned seems to have been reverted and warned, and they have stopped vandalizing for the time being, there is no need for a block. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 23:42, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the revert

Hi TTTSNB. Thanks for the revert to my talk page! Actually, though, I restored the edits. I prefer to respond to the nimrods. Who knows, they might learn something from reading my comments (he said with full confidence in his genius). Still, your revert meant that at least other editors weren’t reading their comments before I could get to them, all the while thinking that it must be true: He’s in an edit war and on his high horse! Also, it’s just nice knowing you’re there stomping on the neanderthals. Thanks also for the NPA warning to the particular IP editor after his comments. You’re a good vandal fighter! You should wear a cape! — SpikeToronto 19:52, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

The Thing, help?

You recently reverted edits to an IP (74.9.35.16) that made bad edits on the Massachusetts Maritime Academy page. This same IP is vandalizing the Mary Hood page. I don't think I reverted this person's edits properly, but I did delete the felonious edits made to that page. It appears this person is up to no good. Any way to send a message to them to stop?

My project is the Geosocial Netorking article and this week we were asked to reach out to an editor of an article similar to ours.
