Citations edit

I saw your post at the Teahouse, had had a look at your citations- I think I've fixed them now. Also gave it a bit of a copy edit and fixed some typos. The Vice article is a good ref, thats the sort of thing the reviewers usually look for; it would be good if you can find more like that - I'm not sure if the other refs go in depth enough (for instance the daily star may have used their video, but it doesn't actually mention the website by name in the story). But then again I'm not an article reviewer, so you might be lucky. Anyway, writing an article as a new editor is always difficult and very few users get their first article passed. Many thanks, I understan about the other citations, Spiceheads sell pix and Videos to Deadline News agancy, that then sell them on to national newspapers and so even the journalist from Deadline will not get a mention in the story, the edditor of the paper eddits it a bit and get's the credit. The video od Sam in the suiside vest is my interlectual property as is the other one in the other newspaper, it just dont say so, lol. Spiceheads get's a mention in the Sunday Times story and one in the Sun, however another Wikipedia page editor told me that I could not Cite to the SUn, lol Many thanks Howard

I am so sorry to pester you again, but you have been so helpfull and the work you have done looks great. I have been confronted with this now: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Taylor4567#File%3ASpiceheads_logo.jpg

I messaged and requested a copy of this logo image from Richard, who run's Spiceheads, I told him it was for somthing I was writing about him, but did not tell him what, I hope that was OK, as I do not want to offend Wikipedia? He sent me a copy of this image, which he had downloaded from his page, having put it there in the first place and gave me the right to use it. I do hope that is OK, if it is not could he join Wikipedia and upload it himself if the article is finnaly published? Many thanks Howard

Hi there! I was going to talk to you about the copyright issues around the logo, but looks like you have other things going on. Getting an article rejected is always tough, but you should try not to take it to much to heart. It really is one of the hardest things to do in Wikipedia- Most people are more successful if they try a few other things first like adding to articles that are already here to see how everything works.

I had quick read of the refs while formatting them, and had a feeling they weren't going to be enough. It's not the subject matter (there are plenty of articles about all sorts of things here). Formatting, spelling or grammar can all be fixed. Basically, the problem is not enough people have written about Spiceheads as their main topic to make it possible to write an article about it. This is known as Notability. See WP:GNG And nothing fixes that, except more reliable sources choosing to write about it.

What Wikipedia does is take information from mainstream, secondary (what is written about the subject, so no twitter or facebook) reliable, independent sources- good newspapers (no tabloids) and magazines, books, academic articles etc. and combine them into the one article. Popularity, google hits and alexa rankings dont count. The only thing that matters is if other people have chosen to write, in depth, about the website/facebook page itself. You would normally need at least 3 in depth sources/references. The Vice article was pretty good; but you would need at least 2 more similar articles. If you read carefully through the links the reviewers left, its all in there.

If any of the phrases, don't make sense to you, or you cant work out the jargon, just copy and paste and ask at the Teahouse. You're more than welcome to drop a line at my talkpage, but as I'm not here every day, you will get a quicker response at the Teahouse. Everyone here is a volunteer, none of us are paid and that includes page reviewers, administrators and ordinary editors like me, and you. So sometimes you may not get answers as quickly as you would like. We just edit because we enjoy writing and building an encyclopedia. You did get a few people answering to your last posts at the teahouse. Curdle (talk) 13:32, 31 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
