Short-form ref

That is not a "gimped half-assed ref", it's what known as a shortened or short-form reference. Since I cite that speech several times, the short-form refs allow me to present the full citation once and then refer to it with the shortened form to produce an easier to read footnote list. WP:CITESHORT has a better explanation of the concept. Donkey Kong (video game) is a good example of an FA that uses it to great effect. As for the alt text, perhaps I am wrong. I've seen comments at FAC about problems with Wikipedia:Accessibility and it was my understanding that we needed to have that text to comply with that guideline. If I'm wrong, please show me. Pagrashtak 20:25, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Actually, it's not citing a web page, it's citing a speech that happens to have a transcript on the web available. If a long-form ref were to be there, it should be {{Cite speech}} instead of {{Cite web}}. The examples given at CITESHORT may not include web pages or speeches, but there is nothing that should restrict the use of shortened references a particular set of media. It's intended to be used when helpful and not used when not helpful. This is a case where we save a lot of redundant typing by using it. Pagrashtak 20:35, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
On the subject of alt text/captions, at Wikipedia:ACCESSIBILITY#Images, 1. says that images should have alt text, and 2. says that images should have captions. The way I read that, having a caption alone is not sufficient. Pagrashtak 20:41, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
Some one raised a question about that inconsistency on the talk page, but it looks like it hasn't been resolved in the actual guideline, unfortunately. Regarding the short ref, if I linked the short ref to the long with the method described at Wikipedia:Citing sources/Further considerations#Wikilinks to full references, would that change your mind? I really don't want to have to repeat "Aonuma, Eiji. "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Reflections in the Hourglass" Game Developers Conference 2007 (March 11, 2008). Retrieved on 12 September 2008." seven times in the reference section. Pagrashtak 20:58, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
By the way, I've left a message at Wikipedia talk:Accessibility pointing out the inconsistencies regarding the need for alt text/captions. Hopefully someone who knows more than I do about accessibility can get this all fixed. I honestly don't know what the right answer is here, I'm just trying to follow the guidelines the best I can. Pagrashtak 21:20, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
No, I'm familiar with multiple calls to footnotes. What I'm talking about would look like this:

Sentence one.[1] Sentence two.[2]

Question on Shane Sewell

Hey TJ, long time no type. Mind if I just ask you a question. It's not future events to report that Cornette announced that he was re-hired as a wrestler to face Bashir, is it? I mean, Cornette announced that during the show last night (oops, forgot to sign) SirFozzie (talk) 19:20, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, man. I've readded only the part that was already aired.. that he was re-hired, and his first match would be against Bashir :) SirFozzie (talk) 19:43, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Nice job on the article so far. However, I don't think it's ready; I was planning on working on it (I submitted it to FAC last time and wanted to bring the article to FA level for the topic), as it still has issues since the last FAC which are still there. If you don't mind, I'd suggest withdrawing it, then I'd like to spend some time working on it. After a little while, it can be renominated. The article still needs work, especially for such a great game, but it can definitely be brought up to much better standards. Here's one of my recently promoted FAs: The Simpsons Game. Cheers! Gary King (talk) 16:08, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Do not blank the FAC page. Leave a withdrawal note on the FAC; the FAC director or delegate will take care of the rest. Dabomb87 (talk) 16:52, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Re: Wrestlepalooza

Um, what was that about? I changed something that was incorrect. Here's footage from the match right here http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6acdx_cactus-jack-turns-heel-on-tommy-dre_sport and you can see that it is Dudley Dudley in the match and not Snot Dudley. So there was no reason for you to give me a warning for vandalism. So I would appreciate if that was removed. DX927 (talk) 00:49, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Destination X

Destination X (2008) is currently underconstruction and I don't go by what they are best known by, I go by consistency. The discussion was the user's choice. I've been expanding the article.--WillC 21:56, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Sorry if the above makes me sound like an ass.--WillC 22:00, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
People like James Storm are still not known world wide. That is what the Hogan or HBK thing is. They are known world wide by certain names. People wouldn't know who James Black or James Storm is. It doesn't make a difference in that case. That is what commonname has to do with it.--WillC 22:03, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

It worked with Lockdown probably someone who likes art and doesn't understand what wrestling is will probably still not know who HBK or maybe Sting is, though they probably know about Hogan considering the crap he and his family have done lately. I agree that sometimes it should be commname but on cases where people wouldn't know the difference I disagree. Triple H is hard one to figure out but one like Chris Sabin is easy. Though he has used Sabin more than any other name, people still don't know who he is; Chris Sabin or Joshua Harter is not far apart to an art enthusiast. I'll use commanme on Sting, or anyone else who is a very big name, but other than that I disagree. Mainly for consistency which FA reviews have problems with and I plan to take all of the 2008 articles to FA.--WillC 22:12, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Well I'm on strike number three and so are you on Genesis (2009). Considering the event is tonight and alot of ips are showing up adding matches and changing stuff I'm going to try and get the page protected so we don't violate the 3RR tonight. I'm glad I don't expand in the open for these events.--WillC 22:34, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

TNA/IWGP

Fair enough.

I just figured since they are tight with NJPW, and they previously acknowledged those titles, that the same thing would happen here.

TNAWrestling.com however did acknowledge them winning those titles in Japan, so does that count for anything?

Bomberman Land Touch!

The image you uploaded replaced the PAL boxart and there was no reason to change from that, as per the VG guidelines. Tim (Xevious) (talk) 12:40, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Re: VG Chartz

How does VG Chartz make up their data? The weekly/monthly sales may be inaccurate there, but once the actual numbers come out, they update it. Their data older than a month are totally reliable, so why delete the reference? Also it's useless sticking with "as of november 2007" or "as of january 2008" sales data than don't mean anything in the total numbers anymore. Lestermann (talk) 22:59, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

"They SOMETIMES fix their numbers, but not always. They also provide no proof of the accuracy of their numbers or where they get their information from (see the Fatal Frame IV article, the last sales numbers released for it are from August. So there is no way VGC has more recent sales numbers). The very few times they are right (which is very rare), there are more reliable sites with the info. TJ Spyke 23:11, 14 January 2009 (UTC)"

Pay real attention to sales records on Fatal Frame IV there... yes it's been updated past August. You can see the usual "fist ten weeks" and the total has gone on counting past that. If one doesn't know all about VG Chartz system, the least one could say is that they updated it in October, since July 31st (date of game release) + 10 weeks = October. Lestermann (talk) 23:52, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

My response

The reason I didn't source it when I added is because at the time I couldn't link to the specific page where it was, so I had to wait. Perhaps next time you could give me a little credit and think "maybe there's a reason why a user who usually sources what he adds didn't add a source." I'm curious, another user added the exact same thing to the season 20 page, why didn't you revert him? -- Scorpion0422 02:07, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Re: Best-selling games

You won't believe me, I was just looking for that reference. Hopefully IGN will say something about that, they were the first ones to mention the million barrier for Wii's GH Legends. -- ReyBrujo (talk) 03:25, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

I checked In Demand and it was the first line of their report. I sourced it.--WillC 06:14, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
I just checked TNA's website and no match is placed for Against All Odds. They could have decided to change it.--WillC 03:43, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Lets wait and see. TNA had to change alot of things Monday because of injuries. They might place on Impact to fill time next week. Lets wait til they have it on the website. Also watch out for the dumb rumor that TNA and WWE are joining together which is impossible because of Panda Energy.--WillC 03:50, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
I as well. When they do announce it officially, don't place it in the table. It is only needed after the event but people want to force it before the event takes place on the WWE events. It is easier to edit with bullet points. I don't know who could be dumb enough to think they would be merging at all because of possible hard times for TNA when they survived their first year which was the hardest.--WillC 03:57, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Re:RR09

I sense some hostility here. You may have been "editing" PPV articles before me but I am more skilled in writing PPV's. Its The Brian Kendrick because his name is not just Brian Kendrick anymore, and that's why we pipelink his name with "The" in it because he has a new name. If it were the opposite, then The Undertaker would just be Undertaker (wrestler).--Truco 23:15, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, but its the correct way. --Truco 23:22, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
Why is your opinion greater than mines? So as I see it, you're just lazy to pipe link the wikilink. If The Undertaker was [[Undertaker]], and it was to be pipelinked to The Undertaker]], then you would want it "your way" and leave it as The Undertaker, which is not correct. --Truco 23:29, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
Man you are very hostile, you always want it your way. Yes, it says the same thing, but his proper name should be linked, which includes "The", which is why I refer you back to The Undertaker's name.--Truco 23:40, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
Well then read WP:THE and WP:PIPE, for my reasonings.--Truco 23:47, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
That is completely different, that would be like [[Jeff Hardy|WWE Champion Jeff Hardy]].--Truco 00:09, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Well, per WP:THE, it states that the article name should have "The" if its the official name and not just added there to like The United States. So, it would be proper to rename the article if he used the name longer, but per WP:COMMONNAME he is mostly known as Brian Kendrick. According to WP:PIPE, redirects should not be piped because they can be made into subpages, but because they are the same person, this doesn't apply, so its necessary to add "The" to the link. In response to yours, the 3 letter word "The" does not make the link longer, so that can't apply to that point you pointed out.--Truco 00:23, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
(outdent)I never said it wasn't, it just not as long as an extra term added there like "President" or "WWE Champion". In reality, both are correct, but seeing how it's his official name, it should be linked, but I'm tired of fighting over this, so if you want it your way, whatever dude.--Truco 00:30, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
I really don't care anymore, since there are variations, write it to your liking.--Truco 00:48, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

WWE championship

I changed that cause vacated reigns aren't supposed to be counted and also the "-" would make the vacant reigns more noticeable on the tables. I'm fine with your way as long as every championship history table is the same. The reigns column is kinda pointless (and confusing) as a sortable column anyway. common name

You are taking common name too seriously. That rule only effects people who are widely known, like Hogan. Not people like James Storm. What is the problem with the name is parenthesis?--WillC 21:04, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Your idea contradicts the out of universe style, which does not cater to a wrestling fan. A person who reads about science and decides to learn about wrestling would not know who Allen Jones or A.J. Styles is so common name only refers to people that are widely know. i.e. the common name. Hulk Hogan is more a common name than Terry Bollea. And to go by common name you would have to add the Phenomenal A.J. Styles because that is a most common name he uses and people refer to him as such. What is the problem with adding the real names? Everywhere I go you are removing the real names for no reason. You could take Victory Road 04 to FAC and people would wonder why it is not consistent and who is A.J. Styles.--WillC 00:14, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I opened a discussion to settle this once and for all. Hopefully a guideline and can be made because James Storm isn't even known by most wrestling fans in the first place. I'm about the leave anyway, I was just getting on to make sure Victory Road is not under review. In the end I believe it should only be used for big names that most know, not just an indy wrestler who has used the name for a few years.--WillC 00:29, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

I'm assuming the rule is that American box art must be used on the English Wikipedia if it exists and there's a decent copy to be found. "Any championship they choose"

This isn't accurate. No one "chose" a championship up until 2004. From 1993 to 2002, there was only one championship (hence, the removal of "choice"). In 2003, Lesnar simply fought Angle for SmackDown's belt. In 2004, Benoit "exercised his choice" to decide which champion he wanted to face. It's right on the 2004 Rumble page. So if you have a better way to ACCURATELY write it, fine...but don't say that it was an "unhelpful" edit.--ECWAGuru (talk) 20:01, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

If you look at the edit history, I changed it to your original edit...and even said that I was unsure as to why the citation was taken out. "19:55, 26 January 2009 ECWAGuru (Talk | contribs) (6,422 bytes) (Not sure why TJ's edit was undone, but it was accidental)"

We must have simply edited over one another.--ECWAGuru (talk) 20:04, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

A centralised discussion which may interest you

Hi. You may be interested in a centralised discussion on the subject of "lists of unusual things" to be found here. SP-KP (talk) 17:36, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Matt Hardy

I have the best source of all...myself.

ECW taped yesterday in Cleveland, which is nearby where I live, and I just happened to be at the taping.

Besides, in about an hour it will become common knowledge anyway, so no harm no foul.

Legacy

Someone just remade the article, Legacy. I redirected it to Randy Orton. I hope that I was right in doing this. Was I? SimonKSK 01:05, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Ok, thanks. Just wanted to make sure. SimonKSK 01:10, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Voices: WWE The Music, Vol. 9 SD theme

It does not officially list the singer although I suspect it to be a guy named Terry Ilous. Also, Khali's theme is actually performed by Kulwinder Singh Johal. Panjabi MC only plays the dhol. JBZA 04:17, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
