Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, SwoodwardPHF. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 11:55, 8 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Dreamy Jazz:), thanks for reviewing my entry so quickly - I did wonder if that was going to be the case... Re conflict of interest, I understand I should clarify I am a staff member of PHF but wasn't clear how to do that in my user profile. Our senior leadership team has asked me to create a page for the Foundation - I accept I may not be best placed to do this myself but how do you suggest we move forwards? Thanks for further guidance, I'm a newbie to this and it's quite confusing when everyone else seems to work a way round these rules! SwoodwardPHF (talk) 12:12, 8 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

SwoodwardPHF, hello. If you are being paid to create the article (which in a way you are, as you are being employed by them), then you will need to disclose this on your userpage. You can do this by adding {{Paid|employer=Paul Hamlyn Foundation}} to your userpage. For more information see WP:PAID. Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 12:16, 8 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
@SwoodwardPHF:, also if you would want your draft accepted, you will need to:
  • Find more sources. I advise that you look on Google and search for "Paul Hamlyn Foundation". I found several sources. You will need to check that these sources are independent and reliable. Look at the page I've just liked for advise on how to determine this for each source you find.
  • Write the draft in a netural way. The best way to do this is to write from what the sources say, as if they are suitable, then the sources will talk about this charity in a netural way. See Wikipedia:Neutral point of view for more information on how to write in a netural way.
In the end, as long you write the article in a neutral way using independent and reliable sources, it should be fine. When you are happy the draft is ready press the "Resubmit" button. Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 12:22, 8 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
