I don't truly know what you are asking here. I'll respond to the question you first had. With Hope, because the JMA doesn't have wind data available at that time, CMA wind data can be used. Once JTWC data is present switch to that. For ET go with JTWC then switch to JMA. If there is a large discrepancy with positions for ET between JTWC and JMA, go with JMA. @Supportstorm: Removed my first question. By looking at your recent activities (2011 PTS) it seems that you are always putting JTWC data first and follow JMA BT if the former declares a system as EX, and in Maria 2012, you favored the JMA rather than JTWC. Is it safe to assume that your methods are okay to use on 1951-1976? I thought that while CMA considers it at 9 (ET stage), and the JMA at 9 (Intensity of TS or higher), I just put winds of JMA (guessing it is higher than 35 kt) and CMA classifications. My mind is going NUTS while thinking about your methods, no jokes included.

What I have put to question in Zelda's track was the unknown color. How did you do that? I have tried to edit hurdat2.c but I didn't push it through because I could put the map generator into serious trouble. Regards, 👦 13:06, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

I think your next update will be on my born year, 2006. So, you might wanna use OpenCPN on the Agaton track because when I was using the Digital Typhoon kml files for making maps, it was not fully taken care of and leaves large discrepancies of location. Hi Supportstorm, Can you look into the imagery for Gavin 1985 as the image that you supplied in 2012 is JTWC peak and looks like the system is sheared and has started extratropical transition. The FMS thinks that it peaked for about 48 hours so you might have a choice of images.Jason Rees (talk) 20:44, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

Pay attention to the native resolution of the image. That means the maximum resolution of your image source. I notice you upload geocolor images from WorldView pretty often. Make sure to keep the resolution of the snapshot to 1 km since that is the maximum resolution they offer for that product. Supportstorm (talk) 21:12, 26 August 2021 (UTC)

Questions about the 500m resolution geostationary images

Hello Supportstorm, do you use satpy or Geo2Grid to produce these images? I would like to try to create my own 500 meter resolution geostationary images for Wikipedia and my own scientific research, whenever I go to college within the next few months, also do you need a Linux laptop/pc or a Linux virtual machine on Windows to create these images? Anything that can run python can run satpy. I suggest using a terminal or through anaconda if you are on windows. If you aren't already, start to get familiar with that programing language anyway if you plan on getting an atmospheric science degree. Supportstorm (talk) 01:55, 15 June 2022 (UTC)

Nicole's peak image

Good Evening Supportstorm, I have a request is there a way you could upload an image of when Nicole peaked the only two I can upload is an IR image from NOAA-20 (left image) and a off-center Suomi-NPP nighttime image of the storm (right image) due to the granules cutting off. If you can't find better imagery could you revamp one of these images to the best you can?

WikiProject Weather: Map Dot & Template/Infobox Colors

Dear project member, This message is being sent out to encourage new ideas and feedback on those proposed in regard to the colors debate for WikiProject Weather. For those who are unaware of what's been happening over the last year, I will give a brief summary. We have been discussing proposed changes to the colors of the dots on tropical cyclone maps and templates and infoboxes across the entire weather project in order to solve issues related to the limited contrast between colors for both normal vision as well as the various types of color blindness (MOS:ACCESS). We had partially implemented a proposal earlier this year, however, it was objected to by a number of people and additional issues were presented that made it evident this wasn't the optimal solution. We tried to come up with other solutions to address the issues related to color contrast, however, none of them gained traction and no consensus was generated.

We need your help and I encourage you to propose your own scale and give feedback on those already listed. Keep in mind that we are NOT making a decision on any individual proposal at this time. We are simply allowing people to make proposals and cultivate them given feedback from other project members. Please visit our project page for additional details. Cobra 1944 track charts

Hoping you can help me,

I’m looking to connect with “SUPPORTSTORM” author / creator of the Wikimedia Commons digital imaging of - Cobra 1944 track.png (s) - representing the track chart for the December 1944 Pacific typhoon – known as Typhoon COBRA – that nearly destroyed the US Navy’s 3rd fleet (Adm. Bull Halsey’s fleet) during WWII.

I’m an aviation historian trying to reconstruct typhoon reconnaissance flights that were flown during this storm and sync them to a storm’s track chart.

However, technically, I have not been able to find an actual 1944 track chart of this storm.

W/R to these track charts represented in the public domain, on Wikimedia / Wikipedia, I’m interested to know what you based your track charts on (?)

There seems to have been a preliminary updating of the chart - from the 8 Feb 2014 version – that was subsequently changed. I’m interested to know why (?).

Any information you can provide with regards to the data / or a source track chart would be helpful.

Track map of Cyclone Daniel

I'm reluctant to change the data just yet. Herinc David is probably the best expert source so far, but there are a few things that make me pause. One being that such a significant systems will likely have a peer reviewed paper released in the future which will have a higher quality data. Another is the classification of Daniel as a tropical cyclone is still not concrete. There are sources that claimed it was sub-tropical. Also CIMSS and Met Office I don't believe have explicitly classified the system. The diagnostics pages claim TC but this is just a placeholder for systems they track regardless of nature of the system. For example subtropical storms tracked in the Atlantic have the same labels. I will wait until the Australian Severe Weather page updates with the track data before making a change in a few months time. Their assessment of the system should increase confidence of a classification if it is indeed tropical. Then if a peer reviewed study provides tracking data, a track created from that source.
