The Wastelands (radio show)

Thank you very much for deleting the page. it's nice to know there are people out there who are so bored they go around wikipedia deleting other people's pages like some kind of tattle-tale little kid. Appreciate it. Thanks for having nothing better to do than hang out on wikipedia all day doing that. That's awesome! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Redshade01 (talkcontribs) 16:32, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you!

Deletion of R.C. Brooks entry

Dear Slwalkerster,

Please could you reconsider your deletion of the entry on R.C.Brooks.

He was a very well respected and known figure in Natal, South Africa (now KwaZulu-Natal) who taught several thousand boys. He was the housemaster of many well known figures, such as Wilbur Smith and Robert Holmes a Court. As Headmaster he contributed many valuable reforms and is highly respected by both Old Boys (many illustrious ones), staff and parents.

He is an important figure in South Africa.

I can provide links to the important people he has either taught as a Headmaster or coached as Housemaster.

In the world outside South Africa (excepting such people as Holmes a Court, Wilbur Smith, some important bankers and Westminster MPs) he might not be well known, but, in South Africa he is a respected figure.

Please let me know what I need to include to satisfy you of this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fustbariclation (talkcontribs) 16:18, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

That article was deleted because it was an article about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content that did not indicate why its subject is important or significant. This is distinct from questions of verifiability and reliability of sources, and is a lower standard than notability; to avoid speedy deletion an article does not have to prove that its subject is notable, just give a reasonable indication of why it might be notable. If you wish, I will restore the article into your userspace, and you can work on it in there if you feel the subject of the article is notable, and can provide reliable sources to verify this. Mike Lindup's Conversations with Silence page - why did you delete it? I had started it and had not finished it.Geoffff (talk) 13:19, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

There was not enough context to identify the subject of the article. Stwalkerstertalk ] 13:21, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Antonio Fistonić

Have you got any information (results of chess tournaments or matches) about Antonio Fistonić? I am afraid, that article is a joke. In WikiProject Chess there is not place for unknown players. Regards, Mibelz (talk) 17:00, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

No, I was on new page patrol, and it was one of the few pages I saw in that session which sounded feasible. I did nothing but clean up the article from what it was originally. If you feel the player is not notable, feel free to discuss it for deletion, prod it, or speedy delete it. Stwalkerstertalk ] 19:09, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Looking at it, I see I missed the word "famous", which I would have normally removed, but missed this time. Stwalkerstertalk ] 19:09, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Table help

Thanks for your help and patience with my table questions on IRC today! Sorry I didn't pick up on colspan and rowspan at first--a little ADD moment, I think. I am now poking around the guides to see if there is a way to globally assign a font style to one column. For example, I'd like one column to be a different font face from the system default or globally assigned font face in the rest of the table. No luck yet. Good luck with your exams. -Eric talk 17:18, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Notability

I don't see why this page is of any significance at all. There is only some childish images, this quite empty talk page and some ego boosters. Maybe it should be a candidate for deletion?

If not, and in all seriousness, why do you delete stuff that really IS important - certainly compared to your own page here. Maybe there should be a policy on hypocrisy, but of course having power on the internet is good (and I really mean that, its much better than having Burma's all over the real world). I just think it should be exercised on somewhat smaller sites and certainly ones that does not have the same neutrality aim that Wikipedia should have, as a common project and not something made by people with all kinds of non existent ranks and tinky winki medals.

Lets take this example that you deleted (I hope a constructive discussion can be made):

http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:x5VVWz7yEYMJ:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/For_the_Loveless_Lonely_Nights+For+The+Loveless+Lonely+Nights&hl=da&ct=clnk&cd=3&gl=dk&client=firefox-a

Now, its one thing that someone was as stupid to flag it for deletion in the first place but isn't that where common sense should rule? Or could I in theory flag this page for deletion, and unless anyone did anything it would be deleted by over ambitious people with the power to delete, so they can eventually go up in rank if they suck up enough? Although, doing something just for doing it instead of doing it right is not something that would earn cookie points with anyone I know at least.

Anyway, to say it more directly, why didn't you just explain (with common sense on your side) that the specific page WAS useful and denied the request? A track list and a well filled out template surely won't hurt anyone, and it's actually nice to check after (I.e OH It was recorded live on that Specific festival at that specific year, didn't know that!). Again, maybe there have been made a new goal in that since I started using Wikipedia when it started. I've always seen Wikipedia as the common source of all neutral knowledge. The keyword I want to represent you with, is all. A Wikipedia that strives for only having some knowledge stored and not as much as possible and at the same time real and actual notable (not by the criteria you laid out) is not something I'm supporting. I.e, Knowing about Michael Jackson is better than knowing about a half famous album by a rising jazz artist who isn't all glamour and probably doesn't earn a lot of money. I strongly disagree there, ALL knowledge for the common man should be available as long as it isn't gibberish and a thing people don't need to know about (i.e no need to write about all the websites on the Internet or people who haven't really done anything significant and was just famous for a short (!!) while).

Now I'm starting to support this in some ways: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Keen#Criticism_of_Web_2.0_and_Wikipedia

It just doesn't work when there is no clear goal because those in power will favour what they like themselves. I.e, they will be all over the big fat celebrities who everyone knows enough (!) of already but won't be there for the "little guys", and if the chance comes to bring them down or abuse them they won't hesitate to do so (having a kind of indifferent stance like we have seen with slaves and other examples in history) in order to promote themselves and their campaign for more self-esteem.

Now, those are some quite harsh claims wouldn't you think? Well, indeed but most of it is my complete picture of dealing with this site in the past half year, not really personalised at you as much as you'd think. That's why, I'd find it interesting if you could give your own personal (!) opinion on this and see if you can cast out some of my stereotypes or keep my picture of Wikipedia as it is. RhoDaZZ (talk) 09:13, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi! I deleted that article because it was proposed for deletion for 5 days without interruption, and I also felt that it failed to meet the notability criteria. I will say this, administrators on Wikipedia have no special standing over the community or over other editors - we only have a few more buttons. Also, you say that Wikipedia is the source of all human knowledge. True, this is what we strive to be, but at the moment we don't have the server capacity to do this. This is why we have the notability guidelines. While it's true that deleted pages are rarely lost and can be restored, hence they use disk space, deleting a page helps to prevent the space filling up. Also, it helps keep the encyclopedia neat and tidy, because if we allowed everyone to have an article about themselves, it would also not be neutral any more, as we would have too much to contend with, and also a search for a name such as John Smith would yeild thousands of results, which is not manageable for a reader to get. I'm not sure what else you want me to comment on, if this isn't enough, then I'll say I'm not one to write masses, and if you do want me to comment on more, please can you make it clear to me what you want me to comment on. :) Stwalkerstertalk ] 21:27, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

{{uw-speedy1}} and {{uw-speedy2}} on User talk:NAPCP

Hi! I just noticed that you warned this now-blocked user with the speedy removal warning notices. Just a quick reminder to subst: all user warning templates, so instead of {{uw-speedy1}} it would become {{subst:uw-speedy1}}. WP:HAU has a new format

Due to popular demand, HAU has a new look. Since the changes are so dramatic, I may have made some mistakes when translating the data. Please take a look at WP:HAU/EU and make sure your checkmarks are in the right place and feel free to add or remove some. There is a new feature, SoxBot V, a recently approved bot, automatically updates your online/offline status based on the length of time since your last edit. To allow SoxBot V to do this, you'll need to copy [[Category:Wikipedians who use StatusBot]] to your userpage. Obviously you are not required to add this to your userpage, however, without this, your status will always be "offline" at HAU. Thanks. Useight (talk) 17:22, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you Wallace Collins, Esq. Page deletion

Thank you for your advice but i am now stuck. If they do overturn the deletion i am not sure how i would not make it look like an advertisement because that was not my intent in the first place but it seems to have come out that way. And how do i get a copy of the page i wrote and the talk page ? I have requested it i think but am not sure.

I have put it up under deletion review: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2008_May_18#Wallace_Collins.2C_Esq.

i do not know what else to do and i am not aware of how to write it then so that it does not sound like a PR Piece or commercial. I did not mean it to be so.

I am not very familiar with the Wikipedia community and protocols, so pardon any breeches of etiquette. I noticed you removed my posting about a good man doing good work. I'm fine with reworking some of the nomenclature around the self-described "world's only UU Monk" but I would like to find a way to highlight his work and his attempts to preserve a historical piece of a minor religion's past.
