MY TEACHER SAID THAT I SHOULDN'T USE WIKIPEDIA TO DO SCHOOL PROJECTS BECAUSE ANY FOOL CAN WRITE SOMETHING ON HERE & THE INFO MIGHT NOT BE CORRECT. HOW WELL DO YOU GUYS MODERATE THIS?

We moniter it VERY well, not much at all gets by us. I would trust wikipedia 100%, one thing you can do is to read the tags at the top of articles (if they have one), if it says that an article does not have references then you may be wary, or if it says that the article may be a hoax. But other than that, it is a good resource. Tiptoety 22:13, 27 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
No problem, just a suggestion, do not write in all caps, it is not a good practice around wikipedia. But if you want to i do not really care. Happy Essay Writing! Tiptoety 22:19, 27 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Australia

edit

Perhaps you are not aware, but theatre is not "incorrect", but is the correct spelling in English as spoken in Australia. regards Merbabu 14:54, 31 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

You have now made this change twice - once after the message above. The Australian article, like thousands on Wikipedia, legitimately uses Australian English. Please respect this. It appears you are a new editor. Please take the time to consider the points in the welcome message above, and also spelling in the Manual of Style here: [1]. regards Merbabu 15:09, 31 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Now Vandalism?

edit

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize pages, as you did to Australia, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Merbabu 15:23, 31 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Maybe not vandalism, but it seems you are ignorant of non-American English. Please familiarise yourself with this before you make any more incorrect "corrections" to an article written in Australian English which is almost identical to UK spelling. Ie, theatre not theater, organise not organize. There's another whole world outside the US, hard to believe for some, but true i promise. kind regards Merbabu 15:43, 31 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for uploading Image:Nicky-jam.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. MECUtalk 02:41, 16 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source for Image:Nicky-jam.JPG

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Nicky-jam.JPG. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then you need to specify who owns the copyright, please. If you got it from a website, then a link to the website where it was taken from with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:41, 16 January 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 02:41, 16 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Lost Video game

edit

{{helpme}} Why doesn't Wikipedia have a page for Lost -- the online game that connects 7 million people?

Are you referring to this game: Lost: The Video Game? If that's not the game you're asking about, then feel free to create the article yourself. RyanLupin (talk/contribs) 17:29, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Translation question

edit

{{helpme}} Who translates the articles into other languages? Does Wikipedia use an automatic translator (like Google Language Tools or freetranslation.com) or do proffesional translators actually make sure that it is a gramatically correct translation?

Actually, if your referring to the other language versions of wikipedia, each different language is a special project of its own. That is to say, the spanish version of wikipedia is written by native spanish speakers or persons who speak spanish. If you look at an article (say Tree for example) and look in the left hand column under "languages" you will find links to other versions of the article in different languages. You will notice that the italian version of this article is very different from, say, the hebrew version.
Hope this was of some assistance. If I can be of any further help please feel free to respond here or on my talk page. Happy Editing! --omtay38 16:34, 19 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yellow Message Bar

edit

{{helpme}} The bar at the top said that I have new messages and I clicked on it. It brought me here! I do not see any new messages....

Hi Spectacgurl215! You saw the yellow bar at the top of your page because I was in the process of answering your {{helpme}} request (see above). I hadn't quite finished so that's why you saw no changes.
On a side note, it is customary to place new information at the bottom of your talk page for ease of editing and viewing. Best regards! --omtay38 16:34, 19 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Nicole McCormick

edit

A tag has been placed on Nicole McCormick requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Cereal Day

edit

A tag has been placed on Cereal Day, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. And please do not repost this. Yes, this is the anniversary of Kellogg's Corn Flakes. No, it is not a holiday. Please read the tutorials which have been provided for you in order to learn how to create and expand articles. Thank you. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 22:37, 7 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

You have recently recreated or reposted material at Talk:Cereal Day which previously was deleted in accordance with Wikipedia's deletion policies. Please do not recreate this page without prior approval from an administrator or you may be blocked from editing. We ask that you respect what Wikipedia is not. If you disagree with the page's deletion, you may seek an independent deletion review. Further, the link you provided is not a reliable source from which to establish notability for the creation of such an article. --ZimZalaBim talk 19:18, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Great Gatsby

edit

Thanks for the removal of vandalism on Gatsby! For future reference, what you can do to remove vandalism like that, instead of just deleting it, you can go into the "History" tab at the top of the screen, and find the last version of the article that had no vandalism. Click on the time and date for that version, and you can open that version. When you do, click on "Edit this page" at the top, and just save it -- leaving an edit summary along the lines of "reverting vandalism". This will save the old version as the current version; it's called "reverting", and you can read more about it here. —  MusicMaker5376 21:57, 29 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
