Checkuser decision update

The checkuser evidence on Technostomp999 has been overruled and should not be considered to reflect on this user. This user is still 3X banned however for sockpuppets prior to that. -- ferret (talk) 14:15, 12 June 2021 (UTC)

@Tamzin Since this, have you still lost advocacy for me even when I wasn't lying?
Also, @Technostomp999 Congrats on getting unblocked. SoyokoAnis - talk 14:28, 15 June 2021 (UTC)
Also, @Ferret does your message below still apply?
This would have been a great time to come clean. Let me make this very clear, as an administrator: There is no doubt this account was one of yours. The behavioral evidence is just the start, and frankly was strong enough to block on it's own. A checkuser looks at technical information not available to the public, making the connection even stronger. Please do not ping me further or ask for assistance with future appeals if you cannot give us the courtesy of honesty. SoyokoAnis - talk 18:34, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
Based on the available information at the time, this position was warranted. At this time, the earliest an appeal might be considered is October 21. -- ferret (talk) 18:58, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
Anis, I was indeed planning to reach out to you when I had a moment. I'm sorry that there was a mix-up here. If we could do things over, I can't really say I would have done things any differently; it's extremely rare for CheckUsers to get things wrong, and for those of us who don't have access to CheckUser information, we sort of have no choice but to take what they say as "word of G-d". But yes, I do take back what I said. Thank you for being honest and giving (what appears to have been) a full accounting of your socks. I'm sorry that you wound up on the wrong end of this mixup.
I don't know I'd call what I was doing advocacy, more giving advice, but I can keep giving advice, sure. But here I'll repeat what I said before: Six months is the (unofficial) minimum for time between end-of-socking and unban. Given that a lot of the past concerns with your behavior related to over-eagerness, personally I'd be more likely to support an unban if it's a bit past the six-month mark. -- Tamzin (she/they) | o toki tawa mi. 19:23, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
@Ferret and @Tamzin Yes, thank you. I will take both of your current advice. Thank you both for trying to be understanding and I do understand the mix-up that might've happened. Either way, thank you @Ferret for telling me when the earliest appeal date is. Other than that, see you guys maybe in six months or more. SoyokoAnis - talk 22:46, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
@Ferret Just wanted to ask, do you mind checking my contributions in Simple Wiki? SoyokoAnis - talk 15:03, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
I'm concerned that you're still focused on patrolling and policy areas that you do not understand, which led to your block on enwiki in the first place. In your most recent month of edits, I see two deletion discussions where you didn't understand deletion policy. I see you warning an IP for an edit they had already been warned about an hour before. I see stub tagging (though proper). I see you still focused on getting advanced permissions like rollback, where Ferien noted you're still weak on anti-vandalism experience. And that request came with less than 20 edits in the preceding 4 months. Despite requesting rollback, you haven't actually done any vandalism reverts recently. Back in August, I see you requesting deletion of a merged article rather than redirecting it as would be proper. I see you reverting InternetArchiveBot, a bot who's job is to recover dead URLs and replace them with functioning archive URLs.
I think you need to really ponder what it is you want to accomplish on the project. You do have good edits interspersed through your contributions, such as the Jena stub and some edits in August. But your patrol and project space efforts continue to be more towards creating work for other volunteers. -- ferret (talk) 15:19, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
Hello, @Ferret! Just congratulating on the Checkuser appointment! SoyokoAnis - talk 16:18, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
@Ferret I believe I am ready to do the Standard offer. SoyokoAnis - talk 15:21, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

SO

Soyoko, you'll want to start by reading WP:SO and WP:GAB entirely. Once you have, you'll need to write your appeal and post it here. I may ask a different admin to take a look before anything further happens, including double checking whether or not the appeal must go through community review. -- ferret (talk) 15:58, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

@Ferret Hello users part of my original block. I have been avoiding Wikipedia(as part of WP:SO) for 6 months and trying to make useful edits at the Simple English Wikipedia. I as stated on my user page on Simple Wiki that I am tryionstributions to gain community trust. I believe, I have gained community trust to stop the concerns that raised block in the first place. I will make sure to review policies before making any changes to articles such as requesting deletion. I will make sure not to abuse the New Pages patrol. I will make sure to ask questions whenever nesscary. And, I will not sockpuppet under any conditions any more. All together, I believe I have made it clear about the changes I will make after I'm unblocked. SoyokoAnis - talk 17:32, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
SoyokoAnis, I'd like you to do the following:
  • In your own words, tell me what you did that led to you getting blocked (other than sockpuppetry)
  • Tell me what you are going to do to make sure you don't repeat the mistakes that got you blocked before.
  • Tell me one thing you plan to work on if unblocked. Be specific.
GeneralNotability (talk) 18:24, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
@GeneralNotability
  1. My block was more than just sockpuppetry. It was because of disruption to Wikipedia, it was mostly because of inexperience with tools such as Twinkle and Redwarn and I used them without understanding how they worked and assumed I understood the policies that came with those tools as the Twinkle article says that any edit you make with Twinkle can and will get you blocked. I was also blocked for participating in areas I had no experience in such as WP:AFD, WP:ANI, and WP:RFA. I did not understand at all how to use those tools and areas and assumed I knew how.
  2. I will definitely be asking users for help whenever I edit articles or don't understand how to use something. I will make sure to read policies before editing areas I have no experience in. And, my edits will not always be about Anti-Vandalism.
  3. I will start editing articles, Wikipedia itself is an encyclopedia and I need to edit to contribute positively to it in areas I like to edit such as video games or television. I will not participate in areas I am not experienced o r at least ask questions before participating in those parts of Wikipedia. And I will never request someone for adminship like I did to another editor while I had under 100+ edits and was inexperienced. I will make sure to read policies at all times. I want to change how I will be on Wikipedia to make sure I don't make the same mistake I did 6 months ago.
SoyokoAnis - talk 18:38, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
@GeneralNotability Did you get the ping? It usually alerts me that a ping was sent to the user, it didn't do it when I pinged you above. SoyokoAnis - talk 06:12, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
I did. I think at this point there's enough to take this to AN for discussion of removing the CBAN. Are you okay with that? GeneralNotability (talk) 23:17, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
@GeneralNotability Yes, thank you. SoyokoAnis - talk 23:20, 24 October 2021 (UTC)

Notice of Administrators' noticeboard discussion

  There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is SoyokoAnis unban appeal. Thank you. GeneralNotability (talk) 16:13, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

@GeneralNotability May I also mention that I am going to continue to edit at Simple English Wikipedia even after my block is lifted? SoyokoAnis - talk 16:25, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
Done. GeneralNotability (talk) 18:38, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
Following discussion at AN, your unblock appeal was successful. Please read through the discussion for some strong suggestions for you going forward. Primefac (talk) 17:10, 26 October 2021 (UTC)

Soyoko, some quick notes for this draft: It addresses the reader as "you", second person, and should not. Compilations are also not always notable on their own, so you'll need more sources that discuss the compilation itself in-depth, generally beyond simple announcements. That may require waiting until it's released so that reviews exist. To find more sourcing that is vetted and reliable, see WP:VG/S. You'll also want to read MOS:VG for guidance on how to arrange and write video game articles. -- ferret (talk) 12:11, 27 October 2021 (UTC)
@Ferret Okay, thank you! SoyokoAnis - talk 12:52, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

Hello

Today, I happened to be looking through another user's contributions, and I saw that you were unbanned. I remember seeing you struggling earlier this year, and I felt really bad. I would have offered to mentor you, but I was already mentoring someone else in a similar situation (turned out to be a success). Seeing you get banned only made me feel worse. I knew that you would eventually be unbanned if you had some more practice somewhere else. Welcome back to the community, and good luck. Scorpions13256 (talk) 23:23, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

@Scorpions13256 Thank you! SoyokoAnis - talk 00:42, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

Your thread has been archived

Hi SoyokoAnis! The thread you created at the Wikipedia:Teahouse, Are you allowed to make an Edit request whilst being Extended-Confirmed or Auto-Confirmed?, has been archived because there was no discussion for a few days (usually at least two days, and sometimes four or more). You can still find the archived discussion here. If you have any additional questions that weren't answered then, please feel free to create a new thread.

The archival was done by Lowercase sigmabot III, and this notification was delivered by Muninnbot, both automated accounts. You can opt out of future notifications by placing {{bots|deny=Muninnbot}} here on your user talk page. Muninnbot (talk) 19:02, 31 October 2021 (UTC)

Blocked users

Hi Soyoko. I understand your sympathy towards other blocked users, but it would really be best at your experience level not to comment on them. The user you most recently replied to cannot be unblocked as they have been globally locked as a long-term abuse account. There's a lot going on in these cases, and sometimes the user in question has a long pattern that you're unaware of. -- ferret (talk) 14:02, 30 October 2021 (UTC)

Understood. SoyokoAnis - talk 00:55, 31 October 2021 (UTC)

Agreed with ferret. A "break" would not have allowed them to come back. That was a complicated case that involved a poor grasp on English. Stop by my talk page if you have any questions. Scorpions13256 (talk) 03:04, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
Okay. Happy editing! SoyokoAnis - talk 11:46, 5 November 2021 (UTC)

Knob Creek bourbon short description

Hi, I changed the Knob Creek (bourbon) short description because short descriptions are supposed to be approximately 40 characters and this article's was over 100: WP:SDSHORT SimLibrarian (talk) 04:13, 21 November 2021 (UTC)

@SimLibrarian Oh, okay thanks! I need to read on that. SoyokoAnis - talk 04:14, 21 November 2021 (UTC)
You're welcome! SimLibrarian (talk) 04:16, 21 November 2021 (UTC)

How Do I Cite?

I am the anonymous editor who added the section about Stone Ocean to the Kennedy Space Center page. I know that KSC is the location of a climactic battle within that story, and wanted to add it to the Pop Culture section. I'm not really sure how to cite it, but I know that it is true, as there are manga volumes with the location, I've included the JoJo wiki page for reference, I'm just not sure how to cite. https://jojowiki.com/Kennedy_Space_Center Cheese420 (talk) 03:55, 22 November 2021 (UTC)cheese420

@Cheese420 Hello, wiki's are not reliable sources as they can be edited by anyone. Feel free to find another source about the topic and edit the page accordingly. Happy editing! SoyokoAnis - talk 03:57, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
Also, you probably shouldn't edit while logged-in and out as you could say you're someone you're not. SoyokoAnis - talk 03:57, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
@SoyokoAnis Would citing the manga itself work, like by citing the exact volumes in which the location is featured? Also, sorry about not being logged in. I made an account so I could properly make an edit.Cheese420 (talk) 04:01, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
@Cheese420 That's not exactly possible, to learn about how to cite and referencing see WP:Cite your sources. SoyokoAnis - talk 04:03, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
@SoyokoAnis I'm having a hard time learning how to reference it. Would this work as a reference for what I'm trying to say? "Kennedy Space Center serves as the location of the final battle near the end of Stone Ocean between the Joestar Group and Enrico Pucci. Cheese420 (talk) 04:25, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
@Cheese420 1. Don't cite on userpages. 2. That is a store to purchase the books/manga. Please try and find another source. SoyokoAnis - talk 04:26, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
@SoyokoAnis Can I just remove the website and cite the book itself? I have the ISBN, Publisher, date, and the author. Sorry for asking a lot of questions. I'm pretty new to editing, so I appreciate your help and patience. Cheese420 (talk) 04:34, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
I would direct that question to WP:Teahouse, they will be able to help you from here on. Apologies, I don't know the answer to that question. SoyokoAnis - talk 04:40, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
