Fair use rationale for Image:Her majesty's wizard cover page.JPG edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Her majesty's wizard cover page.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Duplicate images uploaded edit

Thanks for uploading Image:My Son, the Wizard.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:My Son, The Wizard jpg.jpg. The copy called Image:My Son, The Wizard jpg.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 08:00, 13 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source for Image:A_Secret_Atlas.JPG edit

Thanks for uploading Image:A_Secret_Atlas.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:01, 23 November 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK (talk) 12:01, 23 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

July 2010 edit

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Her Majesty's Wizard. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. If the edit warring continues, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. elektrikSHOOS 07:27, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I see that you have removed "notability" tags from numerous articles, giving as edit summary "Notability's guideline is too subjective and too narrowly interpreted." If you disagree with the notability guidelines then you can suggest changing them, on their talk pages or, perhaps better, at the village pump. As long as the guidelines have their present from, however, we have to work to those guidelines, not to various alternative standards which each of us may individually prefer. The notability of these articles has been questioned, and whether you agree with those who have questioned it, it is not helpful to remove the tags until the issue has been resolved, or at least discussed and some degree of consensus reached. JamesBWatson (talk) 07:39, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I had no intention of engaging in edit wars. As I had mentioned, it was not the guidelines themselves that are the issue but how they are interpreted, and guidelines being subjective by nature. With regards to notability, I have noticed numerous similar article stubs on novels in wikipedia which are generally accepted without being flagged as notable. I am prepared to engage in discussion with other editors if they are identifiable by names, not by IP addresses. Snowybeagle (talk) 07:58, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
IP contributors are editors too. This IP editor in particular has a long history of helpful edits and general vandal-fighting. Do not discriminate against him just because he doesn't have a username; that's rather silly, really. You have an IP address too, you know. elektrikSHOOS 08:03, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
While there is certainly a human being behind an IP address, there is no accountability whatsoever when a user merely uses an IP address without a username to be distinctly identifiable from other users who may use the same IP. When I first began editting wiki without username, I kept receiving "new messages" which I realised was meant for other users who were previously assigned the IP address by the same ISP we were using. Without a username, there is no accountability as IP addresses can be used by different users at different times. Whatever actions, helpful or unhelpful, reflected in the talk pages, may be due to different people. There is no telling whether the editor who put the flag into the article in question is the same as the user who did all the helpful edits previously. With a username, the user is responsible for keeping the password secure and is thus accountable and identifiable for all his/her actions or statements. I have nothing against someone using an IP address as editor, but I do not want to pursue any discussion with the person simply because the user could be one person now and another person one hour later. The fluidity of the internet is such that there is no permanent IP address for any particular internet user. Snowybeagle (talk) 08:18, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
  1. The same edit warring has taken place at My Son, the Wizard, The Witch Doctor, The Oathbound Wizard, The Haunted Wizard, and The Secular Wizard. Whether you had the "intention of engaging in edit wars" or not, you have done so, on a considerable scale. If you continue edit-warring on these or any other articles you will be blocked from editing, possibly without further warning.
  2. The fact that there are other articles that have no better claim to notability is irrelevant: see WP:OTHERSTUFF.
  3. I see that you have marked your edits as "minor edits". As you will see at Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one "that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute". Since you have made such edits after they have several times been reverted, it is inconceivable that you thought that they could never be the subject of a dispute. Please be more careful in your use of "minor edit" tagging.
  4. Finally, I would like to add my own agreement to what other editors have said to you, both here and elsewhere, about your refusal to discuss anything with anyone who does not have a user account. This is, frankly, completely silly. A person is no more or less worthy of respect because they choose or do not choose to create a Wikipedia account. The explanation you have given above does not justify it. When an editor posts a query on an article talk page, to refuse to answer it on the grounds that another editor may subsequently edit from the same IP address makes no sense at all. JamesBWatson (talk) 08:22, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
There is nothing holding a username accountable either. In fact, disingenuous editing from users with multiple accounts occurs quite frequently on Wikipedia. See WP:SOCK. I personally only discriminate against vandals. I don't care if they're IPs. And again, this IP in particular appears to be static due to the virtual lack of abusive edits from his account. Not all ISPs rotate addresses. elektrikSHOOS 08:26, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Also, you need to read over WP:AGF. Assuming good faith from all editors is a core tenet of Wikipedia. Not doing so can be harmful, especially when reverting edits that raise valid concerns about articles you've contributed to simply because the user raising the concerns isn't registered. elektrikSHOOS 08:28, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
You have both made your points and I have understood them. However, we would not be having this discussion if there is nothing holding a username accountable. You are able to message me and I am here answering your posts because I use a username.Snowybeagle (talk) 08:53, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
IP users have talk pages, do they not? elektrikSHOOS 09:04, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yes, some ISPs do not rotate IP addresses, but only the ISPs themselves would know it. That seems to be besides the point, however. What you seem to be highlighting is to ask for IP editors to be treated just like any other editors, regardless of whether their ISPs rotate the IP addresses, regardless of whether more than one editor is using that IP address. I hope you will also agree that it is the prerogative of each individual whether to choose to reply or not to reply to another editor, be it named editor or IP editor. Snowybeagle (talk) 08:53, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Well, I'm not going to continue arguing this with you because your circular "IPs are unaccountable because they're IPs" logic is starting to get tiresome. You've been properly warned about this. Do not engage in edit warring in the future with anyone, user or IP, or you will be most likely blocked. elektrikSHOOS 09:04, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
You've already warned me earlier about edit wars. This is not about edit wars but about you keep telling me to see IP editors are just the same as named editors. While this particular IP editor may have a history of helpful contributions, wiki still does not allow IP editors the full range of rights as named editors. Snowybeagle (talk) 09:28, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I find this attitude towards IP editors a bit worrisome to be honest. Any editor is to be valued based upon his contributions, and not on whether or not the editor utilizes a user name or an IP address for editing, and this includes dynamic IP addresses. This means that WP:AGF, WP:CIV and WP:NPA apply to interactions with IP edits in the same way they apply to the interaction between editors with user names, and that good faith edits should not be reverted merely because they came from an IP user.
In this case the IP's actions were clearly made in good faith, and neatly fit within the policy. The page in question was tagged for notability and subsequently prodded on the basis of WP:NB, as the editor himself stated. Once you removed the PROD the editor followed the guidelines perfectly by not replacing the PROD template afterwards. Any editor is free to do so, provided they give a rationale which the IP did. You are free to disagree with the IP editor of course, but continuously removing his edits instead of discussing them is indeed classified as an edit war, even if you don't intentionally wish to cause one.
It is true that IP editors are not granted the same rights registered users have, but the differences are minimal, and by no means a reason to assume that every IP editor is a vandal. In this case i would assume that the editor is either the same user with the helpful IP history, or another person with ample Wiki experience as they seemed to handle the addition of a PROD template correctly. If anything, keep in mind that IP users should be treated the same way as users are treated if they make the same edits. With kind regards, Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 12:18, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I would like to make one thing clear - I do not reject edits just because they come from IP editors. I was an unregistered editor for a long time myself. I do not assume anonymous IP editors to be vandals, but what I do not want to do is to get into a discussion with them.
I do apologise here for not following some of the protocols wrt removal of PROD or notability tags - I appreciate the relevant clarifications made by you and the other 2 editors here. Snowybeagle (talk) 15:23, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
