Attempt to remove all Jewish lists edit

Hi. An attempt is being made to force the deletion of all Jewish lists from Wikipedia. (Clarification) it was not about you edit

It's about the Irish guy who used rude terms to refer to a user who just was asking for evidence, and who wrote something about "perfect consensus" on my talk page, which I took to mean "never mind the facts, it's about politics after all"...

I still think your stance in that discussion was wrong, because that Arabic encyclopedia is not an authoritative source, and when asked to provide citations, nobody could produce anything. And why is that so, dear Seba? Consider the possibility that the statement was wrong to begin with.

To round it up, I think we can all be proud of the kernel of Argentine people "doing" the English version, since many if not most articles compare favorably with their Spanish counterparts. elpincha 19:19, 6 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, than you for the ideas! Yeap, I had already seen your license plate, too bad it not possible to choose them here. Do you think it would be too much to create a sub category of Category:Wikipedians by sporting team (support) named Category:Users Who Support Boca Juniors ? Boca Jrs. edit

Hola Sebastian! Nice license Plate! While Im not Argentine, I like Argentine Soccer, although I must admit, Racing's my team. The reason why? My best friend in 2002 was from Argentina and her team was Racing so I started backing them and so when they won, my friend was happy and so was I and then I became a Racing fan.

But I like Boca too. They really hit one outta here as they say here in the USA when they signed Diego, ah? There are some athletes in the world that one hopes would stay young forever, like Ali, Jordan and Bird, Julio Cesar Chavez and Wilfredo Gomez, and Diego falls in that category, in my opinion.

Well amigo, I wanted to invite you to help us in this page Wikipedia:WikiProject Puerto Rico. Im a member of WikiProject Argentina already and I find it very interesting to learn about your country's history, part of our raza's history como tal. Maybe you will find learning about my country interesting too.

I hope to hear from you soon! Thanks for everything, and God bless you!

Sincerely yours, Antonio Diegoooool! Martin

Hi Sebastian! Thanks for your support! I hope to see your name added to the WikiProject page soon! I just got done writing a long article for WikiProject:Mexico (Kid Azteca, who BTW was a rather popular fighter in Argentina back in the day as well!) so I might be a little short on this one. I have never been to your country but it holds a special place in my heart. I grew with the Argentine accent near me. You may ask why, well my first neighbors were from, you guessed it, Buenos Aires!! They were the coolest people you could imagine, man. This was in a tiny (compared to Buenos Aires anyways!) city named Bayamon, which is by the way the third largest city in PR, and well, I remember the guys, Tony, Tito and Paul, I was like five and they used to let me help them when they were working on their car...lol. Their entire family lived in the house next to ours. Paul by the way is Puerto Rican by birth. And now of course, being a huge aviation, boxing and Argentine television fan, I am also a big fan of Aerolineas Argentinas, Jorge Castro, Santos Laciar and anything that has to do with Telefe. By the way, my dad tells me you and him are big friends. That's cool too! Bueno hermano, espero verte soon en el WikiProject: Puerto Rico! God bless you! Sincerely yours, Antonio Iguazu Martin
Hey Sebastian! Thank you so much for joining Wikipedia:WikiProject Puerto Rico! It is one of just a few WikiProjects I have in mind, hoping to unite all Hispanic writers. Next I believe Im going to make a WikiProject for Uruguay or the Dominican Republic. Anyways, it is an honor to have you among us. I know your work will be very valuable to the project, I appreciate the fact you are there already anyways! Thanks also for voting for me for arbitrator! When you nominate yourself for anything, just let me know, I'll vote for you as well. Today I wrote an article as part of my ongoing cooperation with WikiProject Argentina, this one Guillermo Santa Cruz. I want to tackle all the articles about "Chiquititas", in my opinion, one of the best Latin American shows of all time. Well amigo I have to go now. Drop me a line asap! Once again, thank you, hermano, and God bless you!! Sincerely yours, Antonio Bar Lounge Martin

Argentine TV networks vs. stations edit

Hi. Thanks for your comment on my Cfru (WP:CFD#Television networks by country subcategories). The Argentine category seems to be a mess. It has Canal 13 (Argentina) which is an article that says "network" and Canal 2 (Argentina) which says "channel". Do you know if those are correct or if the article writers just arbitrarily used those words? There are separate categories for television networks and television channels so there's no way they should ever be in the same category. If I can get to the bottom of this all, I'll be happy to fix it but not if I don't know what to do. Thanks!  :) —Wknight94 (talk) 14:50, 16 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

BTW, I removed the renaming proposal for the categories that have "stations" or "channels" in them so feel free to update your vote if you want. —Wknight94 (talk) 17:00, 16 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

—Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.42.135.214 (talkcontribs)

Image copyright problem with Image:Huracan.gif edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Huracan.gif. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Incident edit

I wasn't really challenging any rule. I was simply trying to add to the rule. If he doesn't like it then he should just say so. Kingjeff 23:11, 10 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

From my point of view, I am sorry to say that assuming good faith is a no-can-do when it comes to User:Kingjeff. He's done way to much harm to the project for me to be able to do that. See all current discussions on the FAID talk page. He has seriously disturbed the WP:FAID in several ways, and has not only pissed me off, but several others as well, some being close to opening an RFC against him, and he is also suspected of sockpuppetry.

And yes, I may have been a little harsh on him, but the way he has acted earlier [1] has not been very helpfull in calming me down. -- Elisson Talk 23:25, 10 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

That example is a compliment to him. Kingjeff 00:06, 11 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

How about asking User:Oalexander-En and User:Wiggy! about my civility. If you look on my talk page, you'll notice that I just had a civil talk with User:Poulsen. Why is this happening with him. I seriously doubt his "good faith". Kingjeff 00:19, 11 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Kingjeff, ask yourself why about everyone at WP:FAID has been having dusts with you over the past few weeks. Is that my fault too? -- Elisson Talk 00:26, 11 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Without this turning into a big "telling all to daddy": Yes, we just had a civil talk, but please don't use that as a counter-argument on the case of the Footy improvement drive, those are completely unrelated (as stated otherwhere, I don't care much for the archiving either). Poulsen 00:55, 11 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've just blocked Kingjeff for repeated disruption on WikiProject Football. I had no choice, his disruption had been almost daily and he'd had several requests to stop and a couple of warnings. I should also note that he finished a week-long ban for harassment less than a month ago. There's more at Wikipedia:Account suspensions/Kingjeff and I'll be happy to expand on it and give examples if anyone requests so at my talk page. CTOAGN (talk) 10:47, 11 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello Sebastian, FIFA World Cup is on FAC at the moment, and it has been commented that a lack of images is the biggest weakness. Finding a suitable free image is difficult, but looking at the image copyright tags, I see that {{PD-AR-Photo}} states that photographies first registered in Argentina over 25 years ago are public domain, which would make Argentinian photos of the 1978 World Cup public domain. Re: Intercontinental Cup edit

Hi Sebas. This new user refreshen an issue we never entirely solved. I didn't notice the discution was old, but there was no other comment against it, and its clear to me that the name should be other than Intercontinental Cup, as the naming conventions favours common names. We can put it on discussion in the article's talk page, but let's not forget the article was named Intercontinental Cup for a long time before an unfortunate user decided to make that name a disambiguation page instead of adding a reference to the (obviusoly) less important criket competition. Mariano(t/c) 06:51, 28 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm still not sure who should redirect to whom, but feel free to swap the redirections if you think so. Or perhaps we should re-open the discution at the talk page to avoid complains of procedures by others? Good wiking, Mariano(t/c) 06:50, 1 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Association edit

Dear Sebastian: Hi. I wanted to ask you about a possible Hispanic wikipedians association here on the English wikipedia. The purpose would be to trade assignments with members of other Hispanic countries, so that they would write about a topic pertaining to our country while we write about a topic pertaining to theirs. Like a trade. We would benefit a lot by learning about our history as a whole and having other Latinos learn about our own countries at the same time.

That way also, we would promote unity between our paises hermanos. We could become an example to Hispanics around the world. Unfortunately, some Hispanics do believe we are not brothers, and we can begin with our example to prove them wrong.

What do you think, would you be interested in joining such an association?

Thanks and God bless you!

I can live with your request. We'll keep it out of the infor box, because as you say the article is on the country. However, it could be mentioned without footnote as an aside in a languages section. Also, could you please contribute to Talk:Argentina#Demographics (and similar but unrelated problems at Talk:Demographics of Argentina#The article contradicts itself) as to the constant deletion of all the translated content from the better, sourced and comprehensive Spanish wikipedia [Argentina] article. As far as I have understood, the consensus is that all the information will be maintained, but the discussion as to what parts should be condensed into fewer words continues. The users OneEuropeanHeart and VsA continue deleting all the newly introduced content from the Spanish wikipedia which is itself sourced from the Argentine Census, INDEC, Argentine government institutions and agencies, and the genetic findings of the Genetics department of Argentina's most reputable University (University of Buenos Aires). They continue deleting all information to the indigenous community. Also, many users have now put protest to the use of the CIA's figures concerning ethic groups (not only on the Argentina article). What penalties could be applied? edit

What penalties could be applied if a user:

  1. Continually reverts or makes changes to an article, while always writting an edit summary stating "as per discussion page" but the discussion pages (here and here) actually state the exact opposite to the changes/revert/deletions/omissions resulting of his actions,
  2. Those in the discussion have specifically asked him to stop,
  3. Consensus is contrary to the changes he is imposing, yet he states it is sanctioned by Talk:,
  4. Appart from a statement that he doesn't agree, the user has never once contributed in a relevant manner to add to the bedate in Talk: (because he hasn't a leg to stand on).

The user has not yet been stopped. The pages have not been protected. And he actually goes around reporting 3RR against those who have to revert him. Al-Andalus 17:44, 2 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Go to WP:DR, it'll outline the steps you have to go to get the behavior to stop. In the meantime, I can protect the page. Which one is it? Sebastian Kessel Talk 19:57, 2 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Page protection edit

Thanks Seba! I have no intention of asking you to unprotect for the moment. It's better that someone who hasn't yet taken part in the discussion does this. In any case I'll wait and see what happens. It's a pity to have the "protected" notice on those articles, but it's for the best. I can't and won't participate much more; I've lots of Real Life work to do, I'm getting confused with all those arguments and reverts coming and going, and frankly I'm sick of trying to be polite and objective in this particular case. So thanks again. Let's see what happens now... —Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 21:09, 2 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Argentina and England football rivalry edit

Hi Sebastian. As someone who's helped out with this page before I was wondering if you could take a look at something. An anonymous editor on the article's talk page has suggested that there should be a reference to the "popular chant" "El que no salta es un inglés" in the article. I was wondering if you could provide a more helpful translation of the chant than online translators can, and whether you think it's worth mentioning somewhere in the article, and how it ought to be worked in if so? Cheers! Angmering 18:21, 5 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

THANK YOU! edit

I appreciate your warning me about my personal attacks, I kind of like the little red hand emblem and plan to leave it there for as long as possible!!! Also i'm a bit curious, you say its my "Final Warning" yet its also the first time you've given me one of those warnings...so how is it my first and final all at the very same time? Seems a bit abusive to me. Batman2005 21:37, 6 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ooooh! I also notice that you took no action to Jooler calling me petulant, I think for the sake of fairness...he should also be given a warning!! His user page has a lot of those little red hands, i'm jealous! Batman2005 21:44, 6 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Just another note, Jooler said I think that Batman is showing a somewhat belligerent and yes petulant attitude when I said roughly the same thing I received a warning on my talk page, I again note that you've added no such warning to his about his personal attacks and impending block. Just pointing out what I perceived as some bias on your part, if you say you weren't being so then i'll take you at your word. Batman2005 16:14, 7 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

You know what. edit

Sebastian. First of all I have to complement you on your civility and even-handedness regarding this dispute. You will of course remember my somewhat frenzied outbursts of some time ago. I think I have may mentioned it somewhere, or maybe not, but at the time I was under a great deal of personal stress and drinking rather more than I should. Things are a bit calmer now. In this dispute I've tried to argue the case with as much clarity as possible and I think that Batman is showing a somewhat belligerent and yes petulant attitude, but perhaps it was a mistake to state that in an edit summary. The trouble with the concept of compromise is that when you compromise between something right and something wrong you get something half-right, which is just as bad as the wrong option. In other circumstances I might have agreed to your compromise suggestion but I don’t think it will end there. You spoke of a Solomonic resolution earlier. The false mother was the one who was prepared to let the child die rather let the other woman have it. Batman still contends that the USA is officially placed 3rd and Yugolslavia 4th, and yet he is prepared to have the article say something else entirely i.e. that the USA came joint 3rd. It appears to me that he is prepared to ditch his core argument as long as the text doesn't follow that set out by myself. Now on the face of it there is little to choose between saying joint 3rd and saying quarterfinalist, and I will freely admit that my innate stubbornness is a factor in my position, but I firmly believe that my arguments are well founded and right, and so rather than settle for your suggested compromise I would rather let the RFC process continue and see some opinions from others. Primera B edit

Hi Sebastian. I'm always happy to help, do you want me to rename the template or what? Just tell me what I need to change or feel free to edit. By the way I'm not 100% sure about the teams in the template, I thought that teams like Juventud Antoniana, Porvenir and San Martin were relegated to the third division but the page where I got the info from had them as Primera B teams [3] Saludos. Ok, name changed: Template:Primera B Nacional. I even added a few teams ;) .Bruno18 02:42, 9 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

List of Puerto Ricans edit

One of the main concerns about the "list" is that it is getting out of control and that many names of people who have only had their "15 minutes of fame" or simply are non-notables are being added. I propose that we set up guidelines as to who should be admitted with a clear definition as to the terms "notable" and "fame". I am calling upon the parties interested to express their opinion and to help develope these guidelines. I believe that after we take a vote and reach a censensus, said guidelines should be followed and posted either on the article or the articles talk page. We need your help. CIA world fact book is a very creditable source. edit

The CIA world fact book is a very creditable source. Read this in the FAQ section of the website. It is not a Estimate it is backed up by sources. https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/docs/faqs.html "What is The World Factbook’s source for a specific subject field? The Factbook staff uses many different sources to publish what we judge are the most reliable and consistent data for any particular category. Space considerations preclude a listing of these various sources." (71.232.231.151 22:10, 11 July 2006 (UTC))Reply

Río de la Plata edit

Apologies if you were upset by my comment. I am glad to accept that this was unintentional, but I am afraid you commenting out the edit came over as an unprovoked criticism of my good faith. The OED is about as close to an unimpeachble source as you can get, and it is particularly good for this sort of thing where archaic forms may be important, as it records usage rather than prescribing it. With such a source, to comment out the edit, despite the good words, implied that I had deliberately distorted the substance of the entry, and needed checking up on (I genuinely can't think of another reason for commenting it out). Whether a subscription is necessary or not was neither here or there- it is just like a printed book: you may not own it, but it still verifiable. A query on the talk page would have been sufficient for me to add the further explanation that I did give. MAG1 17:07, 16 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Thanks very much, I didn't take it that personally, but I was really quite annoyed as I had taken some trouble to make sure that I had reported it accurately and had referenced it to a reliable source: it was very much as far from original research as I could get it. You are right that we have to accept that articles continually change, but there is also a duty to try and ensure that the substance is not made false, and provide some sort of resistance to the idiots who think wikipedia is there merely to reflect their world view. I did not provide any sort of link because I knew it was subscription only, but the point still stands: it is exactly equivalent to a book (I could have got exactly the same information by looking at the paper copy), and I think it might have been more polite to query on the talk page or my user page first rather than assuming it was dodgy- if there was then no response, then the entry would be fair game.

I hope I am not patronising you, but it is possible that you may not be aware that the Oxford English Dictionary is not an obscure publication, but the definitive English dictionary. The full set is so expensive because it is huge, but, as Jooler pointed out, in the UK and some other Commonwealth countries it is freely available, and I believe it may not be that hard to track down in the USA as well. The only reason to doubt references to it is if it looks like an editor has distorted an entry for his own ends. MAG1 19:39, 16 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Maradonna edit

Hi, Deleting the "often" and changing the sentence to "incident is mentioned" does not imply "incident is always mentioned". It is neutral, it could be "unoften", "sometimes", "often" etc. Personally I would like to have the sentence "Maradona is still a disliked figure in England, and the incident is mentioned in connection with Maradona". I certainly think that "often" should not be included without reliable cites. Regards, Jayanta Sen 03:31, 18 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

How do you plan to cite the word "often"? Get one quote a month? Two? Three a year? You can't quantify the word often. The only thing it implies is that sometimes is done. Not mentioning it equates to say that "is always mentioned" in connection to him, and that's flat out impossible to prove and cite. Sebastian Kessel Talk 15:14, 18 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for your comments. By the way, I'm half-Argentine, my father was Gerardo Barbero. :) laddiebuck 23:10, 18 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re:Welcome back! edit

Gracias, Sebas.

—Preceding unsigned comment added by Marcoscav (talkcontribs) 15:43, 20 July 2006

Can you help me? edit

Hi Sebas! I noticed your comments on Talk:Falkland Islands, and sadly it seems that the problems are back. Since 2 July two users, TharkunColl and Astrotrain, have been untiringly and continuously deleting Argentina-related information on the Flag of the Falkland Islands article. Could you please take a look at my note on Talk:Falkland Islands and help me with this problem? Thanks in advance, --Nkcs 05:58, 30 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ok Sebas, I've explained my points on Talk. Thanks for your help! --Nkcs 22:17, 30 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
