Paid?

Are you paid to edit Wikipedia? 79.123.72.174 (talk) 18:31, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

No and why are you asking me this? This is a highly contentious subject on this site. --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... (talk) 20:12, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback

Thanks for the feedback on my edits to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting page. I'm fine with you reverting my edits. Since I'm new I hope to learn from the mistakes I make to help make articles better. The problem with me editing this page, is that some of the things I find are in the full report released in late December. I find it may be difficult for people to click on the source and then go to the report page and try to find the section that I found the information in. Another thing I have no confirmed source of what that picture of Lanza actually is. I just went on Google and searched up "Connecticut drivers license" and the people in the pictures had the same exact background he had, so I just figured it was his drivers license. I agree there are only a couple active editors to the Sandy Hook page, so I'm just trying to clean up the article a bit. Again thanks for the feedback.Hatzing (talk) 00:29, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

You're quite welcome... :) Even with all of the Help pages and Tutorials, Wikipedia is very much about trial and error. I've learned that there are some articles where the Users in the WP community are more forgiving and others where they are relentlessly adamant about strict adherence to a particular interpretation of WP Policy. All I can say its that one of Sun Tzu's teachings from The Art of War is extremely appropriate on this site, "Pick your battles wisely..."... :) --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... BLP vio

It isnt a good idea to re-add information about living people that has been removed as violating our WP:BLP policy in a contentious area like porn because these people have not been reliably sourced. I have posted to the Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard/Archive193#List of members of the AVN Hall of Fame about your revert♫ SqueakBox talk contribs 22:48, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

How is it you "know" that all of these people are alive? Does this mean that you've checked the sources for each of these people, and if so, you've verified that they have won or not? You've used the word "likely" several times which leads me to believe that you're guessing and making these changes based on those assumptions. --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Richard J. Leon, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Director (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

When adding links to material on external sites, as you did to Ray Nelson, please ensure that the external site is not violating the creator's copyright. Linking to websites that display copyrighted works is acceptable as long as the website's operator has created or licensed the work. Knowingly directing others to a site that violates copyright may be considered contributory infringement. This is particularly relevant when linking to sites such as YouTube, where due care should be taken to avoid linking to material that violates its creator's copyright. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you believe the linked site is not violating copyright with respect to the material, then you should do one of the following:

  • If the linked site is the copyright holder, leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page;
  • If a note on the linked site credibly claims permission to host the material, or a note on the copyright holder's site grants such permission, leave a note on the article Talk page with a link to where we can find that note;
  • If you are the copyright holder or the external site administrator, adjust the linked site to indicate permission as above and leave a note on the article Talk page;

If the material is available on a different site that satisfies one of the above conditions, link to that site instead.

  • Gosh HW, you're really starting to grasp at straws. Even though its an archived page, the copyright acknowledgement is fairly obvious if you scroll down to the bottom of the page which you clearly didn't. That's a pretty basic error and unbecoming of someone with your kind of steadfast stubbornness. Have a nice day... :) --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... (talk) 15:22, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
    • Copyright acknowledgement doesn't make it not a copyvio. Unless the site has permission from the right's holder its a copyvio. If you restore this again you could see yourself blocked - which is why I locked the page. Please read WP:C and WP:EL carefully. Introducing copyvios or links to copyvios into wikipedia is about the most verboten thing you can do here. Seriously, I have seen well respected admins and crats driven from the project in short order for being shown to plaguarise so revert warring to keep a copyvio isn't going to fly. Spartaz Humbug! 23:22, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

So what exactly is your proof or source that it is a copyvio? --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... (talk) 18:46, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

  • What is your's that its not? Putting a notice saying that the copyright remains with the original author does not give you permission to use the text without permission. If the site said poem used with permission that would be one thing but it doesn't say that. Stop being snarky about this. Like it or not this is the most important fundamental rule round here. If you doubt my good faith in this warning go ask someone else you trust who isn't stupid. Try Carrite, Hobit or DGG if you want someone clueful who isn't associated with me or HW. Hell go get yourself flamed to death at ANI if you prefer. Spartaz Humbug! 20:32, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

I meant no "snarkiness" nor do I doubt your good faith, I simply asked a question. To your point that the web page does not include "used with permission" of something similar is a fair point and well taken. And for the record, I have no ill regard for you or have any particular opinion because of your association with HW. He's got his own issues to deal with. Is there some special significance about Users Carrite, Hobit or DGG? I'm not familiar with them. --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... (talk) 20:50, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

  • I'm not associated with HW by the way. Having similar views on content does not make you associated. Carrite, Hobit and DGG are regulars at DRV who do not share my view on content (I'm deletionist and they are generally inclusionist) but are very clueful and sometimes when people doubt what an editor says its useful to offer them an opportunity from someone with an external opinion who they know isn't necesserily on the same page as yourself. i.e. if we all agree on something there must be a wide consensus to support that point of view. Spartaz Humbug! 17:32, 23 January 2014 (UTC)

My apologies, I did not intend to mean or infer that you and HW are "working together" in any way. But I understand the distinction you are making, I too have affinities with other editors. Some topics we are in complete agreement, while less so on others.

As for Carrite, Hobit and DGG, now I understand why I'm not familiar with them. I realize that it has its uses, but I am not a big fan of DRV or the rest of the grievance procedures. I really do make every effort to talk things out and see things from the perspective of others as long as they are open to reason and/or rationally discussing alternative opinions or interpretations. HW's "it's my way or the highway" attitude towards certain edits is not productive. He likely sees me the same way, but even I have to admit that he makes some very good edits, but others seem to amount to little more than WP:IDONTLIKEIT and worse yet he won't offer any explanation or support for his stance. Oh well, on to the next article... :) Best regards, --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... (talk) 18:19, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
