Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Amanda Mo

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Amanda Mo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://new.observer.org.sz/details.php?id=18572, https://www.musicinafrica.net/directory/amanda-mo, and https://omny.fm/shows/power-podcasts/spotlight-with-amanda-mo. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Managing a conflict of interest

Hello, SItsandzile. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Draft:Amanda Mo, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:40, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your feedback. The article will be edited to comply with wikipedia regulations. The purpose is not to promote but to provide information regarding the artist using existing information taken from media sources that covered Amanda Mo. The article will be edited promptly to the right standards. Your feedback is greatly appreciated, Thank you SItsandzile (talk) 09:51, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
That's great, but has little to do with the above query. You need to disclose your relationship with Sitsandzile Amanda Motsa, aka. Amanda Mo. Thank you. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:54, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
I would note that there is no difference between "promote" and "provide information"; Wikipedia is not for merely providing information, it is for summarizing independent reliable sources. 331dot (talk) 10:03, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Excuse my wording, it was not meant to offend or underplay the role of wikipedia; English is my second language. All sources provided are reliable and independent and the summary of the information provided by those sources is what we intended to provide. We are ready to edit and rephrase all wording contained within the text so that it does not infringe on any copyright. SItsandzile (talk) 10:12, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Two things:
Firstly, who is "we"? Wikipedia user accounts are strictly for use by one individual only.
And secondly, you need to respond to the COI query by providing details of your relationship with the subject.
-- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:16, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Please do recall, stated in one of my previous replies that English is not my first language, I am African. it is customary for us to refer to ourselves as "we" as a sign of respect and form of speech for Nguni language. An example, as a form of greeting, when greeted, one will respond and say "Siyaphila tsine" translated as "we are fine" whilst referring to themselves. I was not aware unfortunately that this can be perceived as offensive or suspicious in other cultures. SItsandzile (talk) 10:35, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
It's not offensive- for us reading who are not from your country, it typically refers to a group of people, and not a single individual. The only suspicion was that a group of people had access to this account, which is not permitted. As you are an individual, there is no problem there. 331dot (talk) 11:14, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
I have been commissioned to find all relevant, independent reliable sources about Amanda Mo available online to put together a comprehensive summary for wikipedia article. This is why I only focused on information published by two Eswatini National Newspapers (Eswatini Observer and Eswatini Times), South African (Daily mail) . Other information from sources that I did not find reliable were not added to the draft. I acknowledge that my shortcomings were on the lack of proper paraphrasing which I am ready to fix. SItsandzile (talk) 10:25, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry, but since you keep evading the question, I will have to ask once more: what is your relationship with the subject of this article? Please answer in sufficient detail and clarity.
Also, when you say 'commissioned', that implies a possible payment or reward. For that reason I am posting another message below, with instructions for disclosing and managing paid editing.
-- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:30, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Again, English is my second language and I am using words that I am hoping will make sense. I am not getting paid, I am an aspiring writer in first year College who wants to put together wikipedia pages about Eswatini artists as they do not have those whilst they are doing well in our country and in South Africa. we have started a writers group with other aspiring writers from my village and I was by commissioned to find reliable independent sources and summarize those for artists that have enough sources about them online. The other group members picked theirs. My only reward is to get my first article published, put together better articles in future and grow here SItsandzile (talk) 10:54, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
This isn't really going anywhere. I'll step back now, having tried, and failed, to get clarity. Or what do you make of these answers, @331dot? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:04, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
DoubleGrazing There seems to be a slight language barrier here, as well as a cultural one; SItsandzile, the word "commissioned" generally means that a person was hired to perform some action(such as painting a portrait or writing something) and given a payment to do so. Since you say you aren't paid, I wonder if you are using that word to mean something else. I would also wonder how you or your group are picking the artists to write about. Thank you. 331dot (talk) 11:11, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much for that. Please forgive my language shortcomings. We have a list of subjects that we wanted to write about specifically in Eswatini. this started because a lot has been covered about the country but it is hard to get a wikipedia summary version from reliable sources which makes it hard for anyone trying to get that information. On the topic of Entertainment, we jotted down a list of artists that are doing well in our country and get coverage both in Eswatini and South Africa yet they do not have wikipedia pages when neighboring artists who get the same coverage do have them. This is my first draft. I aspire to write articles regarding Eswatini. SItsandzile (talk) 11:26, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Please kindly advice if African aspiring writers doing first year in collage do not qualify to make write articles on wikipedia for future reference, It will help me to know that I am not welcome to do so and I will refrain from submitting anymore articles. Thank you SItsandzile (talk) 11:19, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
I assume your question was aimed at me? In which case, no, this has absolutely nothing to do with you being from Africa, or from Eswatini, and there is no reason for you to assume that. Nor is this in any way personal; I was merely trying to understand your relationship with the article subject (which I still don't fully). -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:43, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
SItsandzile, absolutely no one has said you are not welcome. We just need to get this cleared up. 331dot (talk) 11:51, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. To try and explain, I have revealed private information about myself such as background, country, race, social activities, future aspirations and education level as well.
The first response to my draft was that my sources were not reliable whereas I supplied sources form the only two National Newspapers in Eswatini (Eswatini Observer and Eswatini Times), as well as South Africa national newspaper Daily Sun, press reader and one of the biggest talk radio stations in South Africa, Power FM 98.7. I came here to seek clarification on how those sources were not considered reliable especially for a Swazi person being covered by the country’s only two national newspapers, I dwell on these because I am from Eswatini.
Without getting any response with regards to that, I got a note was that my draft should be immediately deleted because I had not properly rephrased my paragraphs. I acknowledged that and assured that I would make sure that I fixed everything to ensure that there was no copyright infringement contained in the paragraphs. This is why I felt I needed to explain that I am still an aspiring writer doing first year in collage because I do not want to act like I am an expert because I am not.  My English became an issue thereafter, to which I did try to highlight many times that English is a second language to me and how we naturally speak in my native language spills over as well, I have now learnt that a sign of respect in my culture can be offensive to other cultures; I have not been exposed to this before today.
I have no personal association with the artist, but she seemed like a good start because she is well covered by the two National newspapers in the country, after which I plan move forward and do more Eswatini artists with good reliable sources. I am only connected to the country which is Eswatini and the fact that there are no Wikipedia pages about subjects covered by independent reliable sources whereas I have seen a lot with less sources with Wikipedia pages. As a Swazi I am interested in writing about my country, as an aspiring writer it felt important to me to start. We started an informal writers group with other writers from my village who share the same dream but are intimidated about going at this alone to support an encourage each other. for a start we have a list of entertainers we want to write about and we divided names, this one was part of mine, like how team names are picked from a bowl during that wolrdcup. This is normal for me. I do want to write about other subjects, but one has to start somewhere and this is where I chose to start. I honestly do not know how else to explain which is why I needed to know if people like me are not welcome here so that I can refrain from writing on this platform if I am not welcome. Please note that this the best I can do in terms of speaking English. Thank you SItsandzile (talk) 13:11, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Thank you for your comments. I think that this resolves this issue. I want to stress that you haven't been "offensive", just different. 331dot (talk) 13:14, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you Please kindly advice me on how I can move forward SItsandzile (talk) 13:32, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
The main issue is that what you wrote was a copyright violation, because it was copied directly from where you got the text from. Instead, information must be written in your own words to summarize what the sources of information say. I might suggest that you take some time to learn more about Wikipedia by using the new user tutorial and reading Your First Article. Creating a new article is the most difficult task to perform on Wikipedia, and it is good to have some knowledge about it first. It's also good to edit existing articles in areas that interest you first. 331dot (talk) 13:43, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much for the links in your response, I appreciate them so much, they will be very helpful to me. Yes I am very aware of that issue which is why I stated that I am ready to properly edit and summarize in my own words to ensure that there was no copyright infringement. I hate failing. However, would you suggest that I delete the draft I made instead of fixing it? thanks SItsandzile (talk) 14:05, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
    I believe it was already deleted. 331dot (talk) 15:49, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello SItsandzile. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:SItsandzile. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=SItsandzile|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:31, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
