Beltrán incident

Though I still am on a wikivacation I did check in today and made a revert on a change [1] made to the Tito Beltrán article by Danny, an administrator. He did so without discussion, on a change that I did not find sensitive. However, after having read his talkpage I realised what happened and I understand his reasoning. --Drdan 19:46, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

While waiting for a reaction from the admin dept. I decided to make myself one of those fancy signatures. In addition, realising that my wiki-persona will be a bit tarnished following this debacle of having been deemed to have recklessly endangered the organisation I decided to drop my old alias. I feel like an outlaw biker! Anyway, here it goes, the premiere!

Looking back at the event and particularly at the log of the page where it all started I understand that what caused the incident was not what I added to the article, but what other users was trying to add. However, the general eagerness in preventing the material (which I did not know of at the time) to be published points to Wikipedia having been contacted and told not publish it! Or is that just a conspiracy theory? Well... I am not a troll! Now I should really leave this behind me! rxnd ( t | e | c ) 21:34, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
It is solved. I have forgiven Danny and he has admitted that it was a mixup. Peace on earth :) --rxnd ( t | | c ) 06:24, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

EU DGs

Hiya, sorry for the delay. I've answered your question on my talk page. Talrias (t | e | c) 14:42, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

New European Union collaboration

Hi Erikssond, this is just a note telling you that I have created the European Union collaboration (the first collaboration is Eurobarometer). I'm looking forward to your contributions! Talrias (t | e | c) 12:10, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

EU Law template

Not necessarily. Many templates are deleted because they are no longer to appear in articles. The debate for this template (see the October deletion log on TfD) didn't indicate any desire to retain the content of the templates, and several of the comments were quite critical of it. Only one person suggested subst:ing the text into the articles. On that basis, I just removed and deleted the template. -Splashtalk 15:15, 23 October 2005 (UTC)

Link to Emergency / Disaster Management

On doing research on Hurricane Katrina I came across the web page through Wikipedia. I work for an emergeny management consultant company, and was asked to read through some documents concerning Katrina. In my reading the page, I noticed also that there were not much about emergency management etc... I think that maybe some people have chosen not to discuss it so much because of the complications etc.. court proceedings until a reasonable conclusion has been determined. Although, I am interested in such information and know where to find a good deal of it. If you are still interested in this topic please let me know. Jennifer 22:17, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

User page revert

Apologies for the user page revert - I had the impression that it was vandalism coming from an anon IP! Jamyskis Whisper, Contribs   13:27, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Duty to rescue

I would not really classify this as a disaster management article - it's rather a legal theory that most frequently applies to small scale accidents (i.e. I cause a car accident and am obliged to help the injured, or someone falls in my negligently kept well and I am obliged to get them out). Cheers! BD2412 T 17:58, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

I am answering here since you do not prefer messages on your talk page. I am fine with your suggestion. However, the duty to rescue is central to disaster management. I would at least like to add the article to the category. Have a nice wikivacation :) --Drdan 18:04, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

fire

thanks for the suggestion, but no. I have no special knowledge of the subject. I just work my way through American history articles and categories and fix any problems I see. Thanks Hmains 02:17, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

My reply

Copy of the reply to NickelShoe

Hi NickelShoe. I think your comments are true. I've not been able to see the guidelines for making an article - time constraints - that's it. Yeah, I've got to take some time off to read the guidelines and all about wikipededia - the administration, the guidelines, the manuals, etc. As for disaster efforts, the articles that I've written are unique - that they take care of the invisible victims of Tsunami. Today's edit in Punarnirmaan has the required text to keep off doubting Thomases. But I do accept the fact that I get down to the basics and start tutoring myself about wikipedia. Thank you also for politely getting to me. I appreciate a lot about it.--Pradeep 20:23, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

Dear Bro.Erikssond, thanks for monitoring my articles on humanitarian assistance efforts in South Asia. After you put the clean up tag, I've tried to do some 'fixing'. I wonder if it's okay. Besides, you seem to say that I've been possessive about the write up. Please do advise me on how to wikify. I'm also taking time off - perhaps a wiki holiday like you to go through the manuals and guidelines. --Pradeep 20:32, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

Seismology stuff

Reorganizing the Seismology and Earthquake categories is probably a good idea. We need to fight the forces of entropy on occasion :) Gwimpey 04:38, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

Signature & stuff

Hey, good to see your contributions on development issues. Glad to see the collaboration at the WikiProject.

Hope this doesn't seem too grouchy, but can I suggest you don't use a large font size for your signature? I find the large colorful fonts quite distracting when reading. It's also a bit confusing when you change your signature name - I have to try to remember that Drdan & rxnd are the same as Erikssond... I think there are no rules against this, but it's discouraged.

btw, I've just created the Development and Sustainability Wikia - not sure if it will prove popular or useful, but we'll see.

Cheers, Singkong2005 06:06, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know re: the size of the signature. I had just copied it from someone else and did not see a difference on my screen. In fact, I still do not see a difference so please let me know if it is normal size now.
Yes, normal size now, thanks. Maybe it's because I use a different skin (I'm set to cologne blue under preferences.)
I used 'drdan' as a signature since I first signed up on Wiki. A couple of weeks ago I was mixed up with a vandal/troll and decided to change my signature to a homonym of my username rxnd / erikssond. I will be using that one from now on. To my understanding, this is not considered sock puppeteering
No, not at all. And especially under the circumstances. But I like your new sign better, as it's a homonym (hadn't noticed till you mentioned it) and so it's easier to remember the linkbetween your username and your signature. --Cheers, Singkong2005 17:23, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Disaster preparation/preparedness

I only tagged some of the individual cats by country to produce a consistency in the naming of these cats. This is not a subject I know anything much about. I therefore have no objection to the renaming of the subcats. However, I think the existing "votes" on the subcats have now closed and those which are to be changed to "Disaster preparation in Fooland" are awaiting renaming. (I believe there is a backlog of several days in the renaming process). If you want to include the subcats in this renaming you'll need to tag them with {{cfr}}, but I'm not sure this can be practicably done before the current renaming has happened. I believe it would also be helpful if you listed the subcats on the CFD page as well as the main cat so that it's clear all are included in the proposal. Valiantis 20:40, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Footnotes

Reply on my talk page. -- backburner001 21:02, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Just thought I'd let you know, I tried to re-format my footnotes in the same manner you did earlier. It appears that there's something subtle about the markup that I'm missing. I can't seem to get the references to link to the same footnote yet (as you did). But I'll try again soon. In the meantime, if you have any suggestions, please feel free to let me know. -- backburner001 16:36, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Good work on Disaster management WikiProject

Hi Erik - just had more of a look at the Disaster management WikiProject, and wanted to say: Good work! --Singkong2005 05:23, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Me too! I am glad rxnd (Erik) set this up. Thanks for the note you left me, I've added my name to the list of participants, and I'll try to find time to work on things. I also, a few days ago, left a message on the talk page of the WikiProject. Carcharoth 09:02, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi there. Thanks for the supporting comment at Category_talk:Natural_hazards. You may also be interested in the tidying up happening at WP:CFD, particularly here and the following entries (renaming of categories to fit naming conventions). Carcharoth 10:13, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Arsenic contamination of groundwater

Hi - would appreciate it if you took a quick look at Arsenic contamination of groundwater, especially checking categories. Does it belong in one of the disaster categories? Thanks --Singkong2005 10:23, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
