Article Feedback Tool update
Hey Rsrikanth05. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.
We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

The Adventures of Tintin
Rsrikanth05, Yes indeed, I would be honoured to work with you to bring this article to FA. I have been working alone on this article for awhile, years even, and could use the assistance of a dedicated editor such as yourself. My question: Do you have access to source material on the subject of Tintin? I am done with the days of adding material to any article without citing the page number or URL of the source at that moment, and as far as Tintin, this year I have accumulated the "core" bibliography in my own library. - I don't have that much access to material as I imagined I would have. I have a limitecd access to Highbeam and JSTOR thru my University; I could make use of this. Otherwise, I'm quite adept at finding insanely hard to find stuff on Google Search. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 08:01, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
- Rsrikanth05, thank-you, I can't tell you how honoured I am to have you aboard. I am certain that with the editing and research skills I can see you have, you and I will be able to get this thing done. Our mutual friend Curly Turkey has also contributed amazing insights with his expertise on comics, and Midnightblueowl has contributed time and energy that is simply unparalleled. These two are often needed elsewhere, so it is up to us on this particular article.
- Let us proceed! I believe we have two main tasks to do: 1) Research, cite, format, archive, and double-check each of the references to this article, and 2) Write and edit the actual prose of the article (an inconsequential task compared to the first). With the exception of the Characters section which I am working on now, I have "completed" doing number 1 for the entire article. However, I am probably way off and nowhere near as done as I think I am, also I have not really started the important archiving process. Please: a) double-check each parameter of every one of the article's references, b) archive each URL of these references, and c) ensure the formatting of each reference is correct. - Rsrikanth05, I am working the Tintin (character) article, although I am doing so here: User:Prhartcom/sandbox. Lately, I have been more in the real world, working on my own college studies (I have gone back to school this fall), instead of editing Wikipedia like I would rather be doing, but I have committed to doing both over the next several months. Here is the general plan I have set out for myself for the Tintin articles:
- As the following three points are true: a) The Adventures of Tintin article is "done" for now except for the Characters section, b) The ten articles of each of the ten main Tintin characters each need to be brought to GA, and c) the List of The Adventures of Tintin characters article needs to be brought to FA, I will be focusing mostly on the ten main Tintin characters for now. I recently acquired another new Tintin book that outlines each of the ten main characters (Tintin & Co., by Michael Farr). For each of these ten main characters, I plan to re-write their article in my User:Prhartcom/sandbox, followed by an integration of the worthwhile encyclopedic and sourced prose from the existing version of each of these articles, followed by a GA review of each of these articles. During this time, of course I will have also re-written the Characters section in the main Adventures of Tintin article and will have brought it to FA (with you). As well, I will have completed the List of The Adventures of Tintin characters article (hopefully also with you). Looks like I am doomed to mostly focus on Tintin characters for a while, it seems. Meanwhile, User:Midnightblueowl tells me she is planning to focus on the Tintin books, and bring each of the 24 book articles to GA or FA (this is complete for the first four) and I will assist her when needed. I will also bring the List of The Adventures of Tintin locations to FA someday, and then we can justifiably bring all of these Tintin articles to FT (Featured Topic).

Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
We are currently running a study on the effects of adding additional information to SuggestBot's suggestions. Participation in the study is voluntary. Should you wish to not participate in the study, or have questions or concerns, you can find contact information on the SuggestBot study page.
IMPORTANT CHANGES: We have modified the selection of articles SuggestBot suggests and altered the design to incorporate more information about the articles, as described in this explanation.
Note: All columns in this table are sortable, allowing you to rearrange the table so the articles most interesting to you are shown at the top. All images have mouse-over popups with more information.
Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions
We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:
- Views/Day
- Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
- Quality
- Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.
The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:
- Content
- Is more content needed?
- Headings
- Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
- Images
- Is the number of illustrative images about right?
- Links
- Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
- Sources
- For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. It was a problem in the way the watchlist handles things -- I was looking at the net of three edits, the last of which was TwoTwoHello's. The only change after the three edits was the addition of the irrelevant web page link. I assumed that my change would take it back to the version shown on the left, but it removed only TwoTwoHello's change, the last of the three. I'm not exactly a novice here (close to 150,000 total contributions to WMF projects, mostly Commons) and I've never had this problem before. I won't make the mistake twice.
I have now removed the offending web page link by hand and have apologized to TwoTwoHello for my mistake. Although it was something I certainly shouldn't have done, it seems to me that before you suggest that an editor use the Sandbox, you might look at his or her record and see if perhaps it was a simple mistake rather than a bad intention. . . And by the way, I don't know if you saw (or maybe even participated in) this conversation, but I recently reviewed this one for GA and it was pretty close; the only thing that stopped it was that the sentences weren't in yet, so it couldn't be considered stable. October 2013 AFC Backlog elimination drive
WikiProject AFC is holding a one month long Backlog Elimination Drive!
The goal of this drive is to eliminate the backlog of unreviewed articles. The drive is running from October 1st, 2013 – October 31st, 2013.
