Really sorry about that, I am working on it. I should be taking some time, considering the fact that I am really busy preparing for my exams. But I should be able to manage, unless there is a rule that I should do it very fast.
New to wikipedia. Fascinated by it. I would love to be guided by people like you.
Thank you for doing this to Wikipedia, I am sure lot of people are greatly benefited by this.
Do keep in touch.

It's not so much a rule, as that articles are likely to be deleted if they don't contain much or any information; it's best to prpeare articles off-line (using the sandboxto see how coding will look), and add them to Wikipedia only when you've got something reasonably substantial.
I hope that this isn't taking too much time from your exam-preparation... --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 19:08, 15 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re:Euler characteristic edit

Take a sphere for example. Draw an equator and four meridians. The sphere is now divided into 8 octants, which are, for topological purposes, triangles (they have three sides and three vertices). So we have the whole sphere divided into triangles. This is called a triangulation. Triangulation is proper when each side of triangle is connected only to one triangle (i.e. there are no vertices on the side, except for its ends). When we have a proper triangulation, we can finally calculate euler's characteristic. The formula is F-E+V, where F is number of triangles, E is number of edges and V is number of vertices. In the case of the proper triangulation E=3*F/2 (each triangle has three edges, but each edge is used by two triangles), so the final formula is V-(F/2). Now, let's look at the sphere: there are eight triangles and six vertices. So the answer is 6-8/2=2.  Grue  19:35, 18 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Nice! Thank you, I understood how you do it for a sphere.
The place I found this (In a Book called 'The techniques of Problem Solving' by Steven G. Krantz), he had done it using a method which involves drawing what he called an admissible graph, i.e. drawing Vertices, Edges and thereby forming Faces with everything being connected. Say, drawing a triangle, we get two Faces, Three Edges and three Vertices and thus F-E+V=2.
Now, what I dont understand is that I can as well draw an addmissible graph on a torus as well and that would mean Euler characteristic for torus is 2 as well, is that right?
What can u do about 2-D figures?
Thank you for your time. '''Rohit''' 05:41, 19 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

If you draw an admissible graph on torus, it won't be a planar graph, so Euler's formula would produce a different result for it. You can imagine torus as a square ABCD with AB glued to CD and BC glued to AD. A, B, C and D is the same point on torus: (1). Here is one simple triangulation of torus. There are 4 vertices ((1), (2), (3) and (4)) and 8 triangles. So, the answer is 4-8/2=0.

(1)-(2)-(1)
 | \ | \ |
(3)-(4)-(3)
 | \ | \ |
(1)-(2)-(1)

Now, what to do with 2D figures? Triangulate them as well. Disk is topologically equivalent to one single triangle. It has one face, three edges and three vertices, so the result is 1-3+3=1. Disk with a hole inside is equivalent to triangle with a triangular hole inside, which can be divided into 3 quadriterals, which can each be divided into two triangles (but this is not necessary: once a "face" is a planar polygon, dividing it further is a waste of time). The answer in this case is 0.  Grue  09:51, 19 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

I study at math department of Moscow State University: as far as math goes, this is the best one. There are quite a number of foreign students, mostly from China.  Grue  18:59, 19 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

User page edit

Sorry about that. I should have said something first. Realize that anyone can edit your user page. It is a wiki after all. However, I was simply removing an image, Image:Yanagupta.jpg, that no longer exists, since no source for the image was listed. I hope you don't mind; I thought it would be better than leaving a blank spot on your page. Last, I'd remove the link to Image:Daisydukesofhazzard.jpeg on your page because Wikipedia doesn't usually non-free images on user pages. A link to the article would be ok, but the image itself may present copyright problems. Next time, I'll just post a note on your talk page, but some others are strict about enforcing that rule. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 18:48, 22 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sure. I went to school there too a while back, what seems now like ages ago. Vanakkam (or should I say, vanikam machi) from the city by the bay.
Oh, and regarding Chennai Schools, I think that's fine. If there's a lot more contribution as the visibility increases, we could think about splitting it up again.

Yeah...there are a lot more schools to add...either we should remove the headline tags and just mark them as bullets or we would have to revert back to Chennai schools.
I was going thru your userpage and found that Bhagavad Gita does need lot of clean up...do you think these many external links within the page is required? I might put this up in the talk page of the article too... -- Rohit 02:59, 24 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Feel free to work on the links on the Gita page - I thought there were too many myself. Yes, the article requires a lot of work, but I'm not working on it at the moment. Just started cleaning up the one on T.Nagar and would appreciate your help. Cheers. - Cribananda 03:12, 24 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Replied: Yeah sure...i'll see what I can do. The page scares me though. How could anyone try to tell what Gita has told in such small space?. ;-) -- Rohit 03:39, 24 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I am wishing you a happy Holi, the unique Hindu celebration of color and brotherhood among all members of the humanity. The festival falls on 15th March 2006. I have collected A Gift Pack of Quotations for you contained in the sections Do things Differently & Something More , which are part of the on-going discussion pertaining to my nomination of Idleguy for adminship. Request,Nomination for removal Khalistan article edit

Hello Sir I'm nominating this page for deletion because it is written with a point of view , excessive use of unreliable sources.and the title "Khalistan" is wrong for the topic because "Khalistan" does not exist, lack of support from resident Punjabi's and Sikhs in India, but there was a "Movement for Khalistan" and that is the right title for the topic, and i think this whole article "a new name" should be rewritten with the help of people from sikh community "in" India and other Indians, because this topic is related to politics/people of India. We all should understand Khalistan is not a political entity and having a article is not justified, Microsoft Encarta and Britannic encyclopedia don't have an article known as "Khalistan" but they do have articles on the movement that took place decades back, and i think there are also copyright issues involved with this article because big parts of this article are written on other peoples research. Many reliable sources are used to show "one side" of their view on the topic, there are also indications that organisations banned by US and EU are involved in providing their research on the movement.I am a strong supporter to have a stub on this topic , but im afraid that such articles on wikipedia have become mouthpieces for organisation which are known for disrupting peace (assassination of one of india's prime minister, twin bomb blast in New Delhi on the eve of Diwali) in Indian sub continent. This article requires your attention , please help. Anmol.2k4 18:43, 24 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
