Assistance welcome edit

To those who come across this talk page, this is my first attempt in a Wikipedian in residence role. Though I am a well-established, long-term editor, I am happy to acceptance any assistance in fulfilling this role within the parameters of Wiki policy, etc. I anticipate some watchdogging may happen, and I welcome commentary along those lines as well. --Rob at Houghton (talk) 18:52, 22 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Yank Adams edit

Awesome image! Thanks for the upload and addition. I think I reducing it's size slightly for proportionality with the others and keeping it from impinging on the references display might be good. --Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 21:57, 20 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Image on Clay Clement article edit

Hi. There seems to be some issue with the image on the article Clay Clement that you added. Another user has stated it is not the individual in question. I've removed the image for the time being. Any thoughts? Thanks. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 10:14, 19 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

It seems the user is correct; I had similar concerns when the images were first uploaded. I'm thinking we could just make an article on Clement, Sr.? --Rob at Houghton (talk) 13:31, 21 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Wikidata; authority control edit

Hi,

I created a Wikidata entry for Richard Risley Carlisle. Please do that for all your new articles - let me know if you need help. I also added {{Authority control}} to the article; again let me know if you need an explanation. Finally, you might like to see WP:ORCID, and get yourself an ORCID identifier for your work (I'm Wikipedian-in-Residence with ORCID). Cheers, Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:41, 24 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

I honestly don't know what any of these things mean. I've never comes across Wikidata, "authority control", or ORCID in all my years on Wikipedia. --Rob at Houghton (talk) 11:06, 27 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Portrait of John Harvard edit

Hey, Rob, I noticed the Houghton photo you uploaded and it's great! I have another favor: could you ask your boss if you can make a digital image of the portrait of John Harvard in the Harvard Archives and upload it too? We could use it in the John Harvard (clergyman) article -- people want to know what he looked like. Thanks! EEng (talk) 15:27, 4 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Probably not. Harvard Archives and Houghton are not really affiliated directly. I'm only working with Houghton collections, and I'm not personally making any digital images myself. --Rob at Houghton (talk) 15:38, 4 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Ah... I was just playing a little joke on you. There is no portrait of J.H. -- no one knows what he looked like, except that since he died of TB he was probably pretty skinny at the end. See John Harvard (statue).

If you can take any more images of Houghton that would be great. EEng (talk) 16:09, 4 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

I assumed that much about John Harvard. But, again, I am not originating any images. --Rob at Houghton (talk) 16:20, 4 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

September 2014 edit

Hello, I'm Acetotyce. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions to Mystic massacre because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Acetotyce (talk) 13:21, 22 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

I take that back as it is a quote which you managed to revert before I fixed it. Apologies! --Acetotyce (talk) 13:23, 22 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
No apologies necessary! --Rob at Houghton (talk) 13:24, 22 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Project information and BEIC edit

Hello! Very interesting library to work in, congratulations. Is there a page where I can read more about the project? I couldn't find any so I did [1]. I've just begun working at BEIC (European Library of Information and Culture), a somehow similar "research" (digital) library with a focus on rare works, so I hope to learn more from your experience so far. --Federico Leva (BEIC) (talk) 22:18, 24 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

In the meanwhile I've ended up adding something of yours on WikiPapers.[2] (You can add more.) --Federico Leva (BEIC) (talk) 08:51, 28 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
I'm not at all familiar with WikiPapers, so thank you for letting me know! --Rob at Houghton (talk) 13:22, 29 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello from across the river edit

Hello, Rob -- I just wanted to leave a quick hello, since I'm another Greater Boston person working with library special collections and Wikipedia. I heard through the New England Wikimedian grapevine that you were holding an edit-a-thon this week, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on how it goes, particularly with the special collections angle. More and more of my colleagues are interested in opening up their collections! Best, AmandaRR123 (talk) 21:35, 20 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Amanda. Yes, I'm in the edit-a-thon right now! Let's be in touch. --Rob at Houghton (talk) 21:39, 20 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Vincent Placcius may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Hello from a Wikimedian! edit

Dear Rob,
Greetings from India! I am writing to you for my friend who is traveling to Harvard during February 2015. My friend is an aspiring Wikipedian interested in collaborating with me on a GLAM project happening in my medical school. I am unsure if you are still at Harvard, but if you are interested in meeting up with my friend, you should totally do it! My friend is also aiming to pick up some GLAM skills, so meeting you would be useful for him. Please write back to me at nethahussain gmail (dot) com to continue this conversation. Wikiloves! -- Netha (talk) 16:24, 28 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

The Rob at Houghton user name is no longer active as I am no longer affiliated with Harvard. --Midnightdreary (talk) 18:58, 19 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

BaGLAMa edit

Hi midnightdreary, do you know what's going with the fluctuations at http://tools.wmflabs.org/glamtools/baglama2/#gid=198&month=201505 ? There was a general decrease in BaGLAMa counts due to mobile not being included, but in this collection it's higher than usual. (I know this account is no longer active but this is the topic/project page.) --Federico Leva (BEIC) (talk) 06:33, 1 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
