Welcome!

Hello, Rkr1991, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}} before the question. Again, welcome!

I noticed on your help desk post you came close to commiting one of the cardinal sins of Wikipedia (though not uncommon with newcomers to the site: neve abbreviate Wikipedia as 'Wiki'. It's just one of those things here. Anyhow, good luck, and happy editing. - Jarry1250 (t, c) 14:53, 18 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Barnstars edit

Hello,

I noticed that you left a message on at the help desk regarding Barnstars. If you would like to give one to somebody, I am willing to volunteer. If you are able to learn to give a Barnstar, I would be so impressed that I would give you one. (N.B. I have been told off for offering to give people Barnstars in exchange for Barnstars, so I cannot specifically offer to do this, but I’m sure you can read between the lines.) Also, if you want two Barnstars, I know that a guy called Spongefrog would also be very impressed if you could demonstrated your skills on him, and I’m sure he would also feel compelled to give you a Barnstar. Finally, as extra incentive, should you test your skills on us, you will be put on the Non-Shame list (otherwise consider yourself on the Shame List, which we aren’t allowed to make). Hope to here from you soon,

Barnstars edit

Hey there – glad to here from you.

I’ll try and explain this step by step (it’s not to hard, so if you can’t do it, it’ll be my bad explaining, not anything to do with you).

  • 1) Click on this link WP:BARN
  • 2) Scroll down a little until you see a table of Barnstars.
  • 3) There are three columns – from left to right they have a picture, some programming text and an explanation of what the Barnstar is. Read the explanations (or if you prefer look at the pictures) until you find one you want to give.
  • 4) Copy the programming text (from the middle column)
  • 5) Go to the talk page of person who you want to give it to (i.e. me)
  • 6) Paste the copied text.
  • 7) Delete the word “message” from the text you’ve just pasted and replace it with why you’re giving the Barnstar
  • 8) (optional) Write anything else you wish to say in the post as you normally would (anything before the random programming text will appear above it, and anything after will appear after it).

Hope that helps.

--ScribbleStick (talk) 05:27, 19 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much for the Barnstar. Here’s one for you.
  The Barnstar Barnstar
I hereby award you this Barnstar for learning to give Barnstars ScribbleStick (talk) 05:44, 19 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

If you want to put this on your main page, go to “edit this page”, copy the {{subst:Barnstar Barnstar| I hereby award you this Barnstar for learning to give Barnstars ~~~~}} above (or this one, but take off the </nowiki> signs )

Also, as I mentioned previously, if you talk to Spongefrog I’m sure you can find something to impress him enough that he too will give you a Barnstar (assuming you give him one as well).

Thanks once again,

--ScribbleStick (talk) 05:44, 19 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

The "At Least I'm Not Actively Destroying Wikipedia" Barnstar
For being a new user who doesn't do that

The best I could do for you. I think you deserve it, because there are so few new users who are not Sockpuppets or vandals. I made it especially for you (although that title is a quote from ScribbleStick).--Spongefrog (talk) 19:24, 21 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi there edit

Hi again – it’s been a few days since your message, so I don’t know if you still need help, but I’ll give it to you anyway:

  • 1) Click on this link WP:UBX
  • 2) If you want to create your own (new and unique) userbox, read it and od what it says (Note: I haven’t done this before, so probably can’t help you if you get stuck). Otherwise scroll down the very bottom of the page until you see one of those blue box things (if you don’t know what I’m talking about use this link Category:Userboxes
  • 3) Click on one of the options you want to see barnstars for (e.g. humor, math, science etc.)
  • 4) At this point is quite similar to using barnstars, there are three columns – one with a bit of computer programming, one with a picture of what the barnstar will look like and one which, if you click on it will give you a list of people who are using that barnstar.
  • 5) Copy the bit of programming next to the usebox you want to use
  • 6) Finally paste it one your userpage…
  • 7) You might want to fiddle around with it to get the right formatting, but I’m useless at this, so will only confuse you.
  • 8) Give me a barnstar (if you still want to)

Hope that helps,

--ScribbleStick (talk) 19:27, 28 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Im a stalker edit

No im not really, It's just that ScribbleStick's talk page is still on my Watchlist, i haven't got round to to removing it yet. Anyway, he told me that he's probably going to continue editing Wikipedia with long intervals of not signing in[1], so he probably hasn't seen your barnstar yet. Unless he hates you and wants to ignore you, but I doubt it, he loves barnstars.

Inserting a picture in an article

The syntax used for displaying an image is:

   [[Image:{name}|{type}|{location}|{size}|{caption}]]

Only [[Image:{name}]] is required. The other details are optional and can be placed in any order. They are:

Type

'thumb' / 'thumbnail' or 'frame'. This causes image to be displayed with specific formatting. "thumb" is normally preferred.

Location

'right', 'left', 'center' or 'none'. Determines placement of the image on the page. "Left" or "right" is the norm, but large panoramas or timelines can be displayed in the center.

Size

{width}px or {width}x{height}px (e.g. 50x40px, would limit width to 50 and height to 40). Normally only one variable is used. Use common sense when determining the sizes; you can use the "Show preview" button if you need to.

Caption

Any element which cannot be identified as one of the above is automatically treated as caption text. It is traditional to put this last. The caption should identify what the image is, and ideally be a complete sentence that adds to the article by pointing out something a casual reader wouldn't have noticed otherwise, or add information the pertains to the image.

If you have a picture that isn't already in Wikipedia's image collection that you want to include in an article, you will need to upload it first.

The answer to your question is... edit

…Spongefrog was right – I hate you.

No! I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean that – I love everybody (you especially)*.

The real reason, as Spongefrog rightly pointed out is that I’m not logging on very often – the amusement wears off quickly when you’re barred from doing anything fun. Sorry. I’ll still try to log on and check to answer your questions, but if I don’t answer quickly enough, it’s really not that I hate you (apologies again).

I did love the Barnstar by the way, and, in case you hadn’t already noticed, I am now displaying it with pride.

Your friend (even if I don’t talk to you),

--ScribbleStick (talk) 09:23, 5 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • Apart from John Carter – I don’t hate him, but I know he secretly hate me, so I just don’t ‘’love’’ him.

You'll have to follow the instructions given at the screen where it tells you you're blocked. --Closedmouth (talk) 13:08, 6 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Clearing an autoblock

Due to the nature of the block applied we need additional information before we can decide whether to unblock you. It is very likely that you are not personally blocked. If you are prevented from editing, it may be because you are autoblocked or blocked because of your IP address. Without further details there is nothing further we can do to review or lift your block. Please follow these instructions:

  1. If you have a Wikipedia account, please ensure that you are logged in.
Your account name will be visible in the top right of this page if you are.
If it isn't, try bypassing your web browser's cache.
  2. Try to edit the Sandbox.
  3. If you are still blocked, copy the {{unblock-ip|...}} code generated for you under the "IP blocked?" section. This is usually hidden within the "What do I do now?" section. If so, just click the "[show]" link to the right hand side to show this text.
  4. Paste the code at the bottom of your user talk page and click save.

If you are not blocked from editing the sandbox then the autoblock on your IP address has already expired and you can resume editing. --Closedmouth (talk) 13:12, 6 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Just a quick note, you're my adoptee, not the other way around (you wrote it the other way around on my talk page). ;) I'll be a bit busy on-wiki with other matters ATM, but we'll get started this evening. See you then! Dylan620 (Toolbox Alpha, Beta) 17:04, 10 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
OK, first, replace the adoptme template on your userpage with {{adoptee|Dylan620}}. Then, please answer the following questions. Place {{tick}} next to the letter A to say "yes" to the question, and place {{cross}} next to the letter A to say "no."
Q1: Which of the following courses would you like to take?
A:  Y All of the above !
Q2: Would you like to be an administrator someday?
A:  Y Maybe, If I've got the time.
Cheers, Dylan620 (Toolbox Alpha, Beta) 23:07, 10 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, my adopter (I hope I'm right this time). I think we should get to know each other a little better. My name is Rajagopal. I'm male, 18 years old, from Chennai, India. I am a student of Electrical Engineering from IITM (you may have heard of it). I've been on Wikipedia for the last couple of months, and have made around 300 edits, mostly on the Reference Desks (mostly on Science). As you can see, I will have to take wikibreaks time and again due to exams, trips, etc. In fact, I'm taking one this Tuesday for a week. But while I'm here, I'm moderately active, and wish to be better equipped to contribute more effectively. I look forward to you for guidance, advice, and mentoring, and I'm sure we will be very good friends. I see you've adopted several new users. I'm very possessive, and demand that you spend a lot of attention to me (You think I'm kidding ? Maybe). Hope to hear from you soon, Rkr1991 (talk) 03:43, 11 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi... and maybe you are trying too hard to be funny... Are those spelling mistakes intended ? Rkr1991 (talk) 12:42, 20 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

What spelling mistakes? What about your spacing mistake!! "Are those spelling mistakes intended[here] ?" Hahaha!! Wait, why do I care, this is Scribbles we're talking about. Spongefrog, (talk to me, or else) 15:46, 20 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Whoops, I had forgotten to indent my post. But there were several mistakes... "ws", "Anyhoo", "Intructions".. That's what I was talking about. Rkr1991 (talk) 16:35, 20 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
I never saw the "Intructions", thats why I bolded the "s" in "mistakes". "Anyhoo" probably isn't a mistake, Americans say it a lot (although Scribbles is a New Zealander). But everybody seems to often talk like an American on Wikipedia. My excuse (because I have been mistaken for an American) is that if I typed how I talked naibdi cid unnerstan' mi. Try to decipher that (I'm Scottish). Not that there's anything wrong with typing like an American. This post is much longer than it should be, I got distracted again. Anyway, you're still right. I was hoping there would be only one mistake and I could go "Hahaha! There was only one mistake. I am a genius!!"Spongefrog, (talk to me, or else) 17:15, 20 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Mistake or not, "Anyhoo" ain't in the dictionary, bro. And my Firefox caught it red feeted (literally). (My firefox also caught "feeted", but technically, it should exist, as "handed" is perfectly listed in the dictionary). Rkr1991 (talk) 05:16, 21 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
And I understood every word of that Scottish accent. We Indians are very flexible. :-)Rkr1991 (talk) 05:16, 21 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

(outdent)I took some time thinking about this. It was very confusing. I consulted many sources including a couple of wikipedia users. Thala could refer to the actor Ajith Kumar.SchnitzelMannGreek. 02:11, 1 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

You got almost everything. It does translate to "You are a Thala", and "Thala" does refer to Ajith Kumar. Everything but the meaning of "Thala". I think I should give it to you now. It means "Head" or "Leader". Literally, it means you're the boss. Nice job - Definitely a very good effort... :-) Rkr1991 (Wanna chat?) 03:33, 1 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Her Rkr, I too wanted to thank you for the BarnStar – it was very kind. I am dubious as to whether this is just a ploy to get Barnstars back, but if so it worked. I’ll happily give you one, but I don’t really know what anyone does (I pretty much just look at peoples userpages) so if you want on you’ll have to subtlety hint what you want it for. Thanks once again, --ScribbleStick (talk) 22:08, 1 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

P.S. Please note I tried to do extra good spelling for you.

No, I didn't want a barnstar back. If so, I would have mentioned it in my text. This was a barnstar of genuine appreciation. Keep up the good work. And hey, who cares what spelling mistakes we make, as long as the meaning is conveyed... As I said, you might want to enable spell check in your browser if you're really particular, or get one (like firefox) which has. Rkr1991 (Wanna chat?) 03:17, 2 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Evolution of Hand edit

Hi Rkr, Saw your contribution to my question re: human musculature on WP Science Ref Desk, where you asked how humans could have evolved hands capable of writing well before they would have any opportunity to do so. I replied but the page is now transcluded, so I am offering this here. And if mice always had their tails cut off, the absence of one at birth would be beneficial because no one would cut it off, thus saving the mouse from potential death through blood loss and infection.

Btw, I really like your page. Now I want to know, where the F*** are all MY Barnstars!!??!!

Op myles back here. No, proto humans weren’t writing their memoirs in the caves, but they WERE cutting stone tools and shaping spears and so on. This does need manual dexterity. Cavewomen would have been very impressed with a caveman who had a sure hand and knew how to use it. Myles325a (talk) 06:53, 3 August 2009 (UTC) Myles325a (talk) 01:11, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

P.S. What's that random box doing up there - I can't get rid of it!

I fixed it. Quite simple. Somebody left a space before the first letter of a paragraph, if you know what I mean. For some reason, that creates one of those useless boxes on WP. Spongefrog, (I am a flesh-eating robot) 13:21, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Adoption edit

Sorry for such a late reply; I have decided to skip the "administrative tasks" lesson, so you may instead pursue admin coaching post-adoption. In place of that lesson, you have one week to study from each lesson listed here and accomplish each task/answer each question listed here. Good luck! --Dylan620 (contribs, logs, review) 18:29, 13 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I'm upto it. Will find enough time to study, despite my exams... And thanks for the effort you are taking... Rkr1991 (Wanna chat?) 08:46, 14 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re: Request edit

Sure, you can take the test next Friday. The exam will have a certain amount of questions on each lesson; Lesson 1 will have 7 questions, Lesson 2 will have 4 questions, Lesson 3 will have 13 questions, Lesson 4 will have 6 questions, and Lesson 5 will have 3 questions, amounting to a total of 33 questions. If you finish the test with a score of 70% of higher, you will no longer have to put up with me be officially graduated from my adoption program. Studying beforehand is strongly recommended, and taking notes is also a good idea, as you will not be allowed to refer back to pages during the test. Good luck! --Dylan620 (contribs, logs, review) 02:19, 18 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

A Daring Rescue. ...Well, sort of edit

I wanted to thank you for the HG vandalism edit you managed to catch and save me here[4]. Whether it be your spotting, or the program, or voodoo I wish I could share, less than a 1 minute response time can't really be complained about. Since it was my first ever vandal and can only dream of having rollback privileges to run Huggle and other assists to help keep site defenses high, I wanted to give a thanks anyway as someone who now has a better understanding what good vandalism patrols can do ...even if you personally didn't set all of it off. Kudos regardless! Cheers~ Datheisen (talk) 17:05, 24 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello Rkr1991. Thankyou for participating in my recent RfA. I appreciate it. As you know, it failed (probably due to my own interference), but...there's always next year, Lord Spongefrog, (I am the Czar of all Russias!) 19:09, 24 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I also feel your own interference might have cost you... Anyways be more confident next time and I'm sure you'll soon be a great Administrator ! Best of luck....
