XM Template Image edit

The XM image had to be removed because it doesn’t fall under public domain. Please read WP:FUC. Thanks. Redd Dragon 03:03, 28 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I deleted it because you can only use public domain images in user boxes. The XM image you used was fair use. Fair use is okay to use in articles but not in user boxes. The Sirius dog I made for the Sirius Userbox isn’t the Sirius dog. It is a dog I made because I cannot use the real Sirius dog. If you were to create your own XM logo that wasn’t done by XM it would be totally okay to use it. I have no grudge against XM; I actually created the XM user box. I'll work on an XM image for the user box if you want. It just can't be XM's official logo Redd Dragon 19:32, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Just created a non-XM image for the userbox. Should be okay to use for the userbox. Redd Dragon 19:45, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

User Page Suggestion edit

Consider moving your user boxes to a sub-page. Start from scratch on your main user page. Although consider only including information relevant to your editing behavior. For example: Video games, Genetics, Calculus. But don't ask me about sub-page creation. Go use the search engine on your side-bar. Use "Wikipedia:" in front of things Wikipedia-related. -Shadow the Edge-hog 05:06, 18 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Huh? Many people have userboxes that don't apply to their edits. How do I start a sub-page? Thanks, XM 12:25, 19 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, it's just my opinion. You can have all the user boxes you like saying stuff about: I live here on this street in this town in this state/province of this country. Of course, consider stalkers, assasins, or those people in chat rooms that want to come to your house and... let's not go there. But saying you're a cat lover is cool. Anyway, you create a sub page by typing parent page/sub page with brackets around it. For you, User:XM/Userboxes (of course backets surround it). If performed corectly, it should come out like this: User:XM/Userboxes. Copy the wikimarkup on your userpage, click on the link and BAM!! Paste it on and save page. Oh, and if you need help with the wikimarkup, type: "Wikipedia:" followed by the topic of interest. No space. Cheers! -Shadow the Edge-hog 19:47, 21 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. Ill try to learn more about the user subpages when I get a bit more time. i've been a bit busy lately, but thanks for the tip. XM 03:50, 27 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Value edit

  • Not sure if you saw, but I responded to your query, back on my talk page. Also, you may wish to check out the article Bond credit rating. Check out all of the (9) companies with AAA ratings. As they are the only companies with credit ratings that high, they have a unique competitive advantage... Let me know what you think. Smee 21:28, 9 May 2007 (UTC).Reply

Robber Barons edit

Thanks for engaging in a discussion with me about this. While I don't deny that the FTC and others have a problem with Mackey, this is not quite the same thing as them designating him a robber baron. Also, the article begins by stating "Robber baron was a term revived in the 19th century..." and goes on to talk about that specific period. All the other individuals listed are from that period. So I think that including Mackey in the first place is distracting to the rest of the article, and I think that unless you have a citation that actually uses the words "robber baron" to describe Mackey, it's original research and non-NPOV to include him. If you really want to include him (and again, I don't think you should), perhaps a section on "Modern Robber Barons"? One that wouldn't just single Mackey out?

One more point — since Mackey is alive (and kicking), calling him a robber baron without a citation opens WP to charges of libel. --ubiquity 03:24, 22 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Comment on reference desk edit

I have removed a recent comment of yours from the Humanities reference desk, as I feel that suggesting to someone that the voices he appears to be hearing may be suggesting suicide is highly irresponsible and dangerous. DuncanHill 23:33, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Reference Desks edit

Please remember that you have absolutely no way of knowing who will read what you write on the reference desks, or how they will interpret it. As such, it is an incredibly bad idea to be suggesting the possibility of suicide to someone who asks about hearing voices in their head. Whether you think they are playing around or honest, that comment gained nothing but risked a lot. Your reply would have been read by many more people than just the person asking the question. As I am sure you are aware, suicide is something that can be 'triggered' in susceptible people, which is why one suicide being reported on the news can trigger a string of copycats. Please be very careful. Thank you. Skittle 23:36, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Atheists/racecars edit

Hi. I was curious about this ([1]) edit. Is it a joke that I don't get (not feeling too humorous this evening, my partner's pranged our car) or is it a reference to some genuine anti-atheist practice you've encountered somewhere, sometime? --Dweller 21:16, 16 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have removed this edit. I realize you've got a beef with getting a speeding ticket, but your comment is inflammatory, off-topic, and misleading. Please remember that the Ref Desk is not a soapbox. Thanks. — Lomn 13:34, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
If you see an answer on the reference desk that you consider incorrect, give the user an opportunity to address it himself. Unless a user's contribution is clearly disruptive and prevents the routine operation and maintenance of the reference desk, or Wikipedia in general, unilateral deletion of answers from other contributors is generally considered inappropriate. dr.ef.tymac 13:43, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Note that "Voldemort" is an anagram of "Dr Tom Love", which is actually Voldemort's real real name. He ends up falling for Hermione and gives up his life of evil to set up a cafe with his new wife. Harry resurrects Dumbledore, but Dumbledore comes back wrong, and starts eating brains. Neil  21:47, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Jack and Jill edit

That was a really silly edit!!! Thanks for your contribution to List of climbers, but we are trying to write an encyclopedia here, so please keep your edits factual and neutral. Some readers looking for a serious article might not find them amusing. Remember, millions of people read Wikipedia, so we have to take what we do a bit seriously here. Driver's license saga edit

Interestingly enough, I have contacted the both Arkansas & Texas's central driver control office, my local DC office (in Arkansas) and a Texas state trooper who works in their driver control division. I've pretty much gotten 4 different answers. I have an apointment to meet a lawyer, but I suspect he will not know. Additionally I have read the DC websites of both states, and niehter provide an adaqute answer. XM 07:39, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi. My comment was "Can't you find a suitable lawyer to advise you, XM? If you find the right person, you'll know where you stand in half an hour". The critical thing about getting any legal advice is to find the right person. The law is vast, and most lawyers know something worth knowing about a few small areas of it (family law, recovering debts, bankruptcy, conveyancing, trusts, etc.) and also try to cover far more ground than they know anything about. When you get into specialist areas, most people find themselves paying a generalist to learn on the job, which is why you foresee "I suspect he will not know". Re.:Censorship edit

Don't feel bad. I got censored as well. See www.ksla.com/Global/story.asp?s=7700063. In that, a newscaster said that Barksdale Air Force Base's CO had REFUSED to examine a UFO tape, and another editor said that I had made the comment, not the newscaster, which in fact, SHE did, NOT me, and was accused of promoting conspiratorial crap. You'll have to fix that link and play the tape on it. 65.163.113.170 (talk) 23:49, 26 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Reference desk questions edit

Hello. I removed your recent question from the Humanities Reference Desk. Your question was a request for a legal opinion. Please see Wikipedia:Legal disclaimer. If you have any further questions about Wikipedia policy, please feel free to ask me or ask on the Help Desk. 152.16.59.102 (talk) 00:14, 5 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I'm the one who originally removed your question, as noted above. I see that you left a message to Finlay McWalter, who also removed your question, telling him not to remove it. Please see Template:RD-deleted. The template explicitly states that it is "intended to be used on the reference desk to replace questions that appear to be soliciting medical, legal or other professional advice." That is the proper response to a question that seeks professional advice on Wikipedia reference desks. Wikipedia does not give legal advice. Do not request legal advice on Wikipedia reference desks. If you do, then expect the questions to be removed. 152.16.59.102 (talk) 06:06, 5 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
