UC Jazz edit

As a newcomer, you probably dont realize that these templates are navigation boxes, used by readers to quickly navigate between articles. the names i removed dont have articles yet. to place a name in a navbox which doesnt have an article, is a form of unsourced material on a living person. WP has strict policies on not adding unsourced information, esp. if controversial or about a living person. The names COULD be added to the article on the uc jazz band, with a source for each name showing their relative notability as a former or current artist with them. those names would NOT need their own articles, though they eventually could have articles. however, until the names had articles, putting them in the navbox would be useless, as the only place the names could link to would be the UC jazz article itself. as a thought experiment, imagine i put their names in a navbox entitled "notorious serial murderers". with no sources provided, people may not like their names being in that navbox, but if an editor like yourself insisted they were all serial murderers, would we be required to keep their names in that box? even if it upset their children? thats an extreme example, but what you are asking all us fellow editors to do is trust that your statement, that these people are all notable as musicians, is true, without you providing any supporting documentation. I would recommend you add their names to the article, one at a time, with a reference, and then create articles for each person (assuming they meet notability guidelines for musicians). THEN, add them to the navbox. I didnt get this at first myself, and created navigation boxes for writers' novels and short stories, many of which didnt have articles yet. those novels did have mentions in the writers article (often without sources, again not appropriate), but they still should be removed from the navbox. i havent done it yet, and no one else has, so this area of editing is not very well policed, but it should still be done. Template:Gene Wolfe has some redlinks that should be removed. why havent i yet? for the same reason you added your names: i really think there should be articles on them, and dont have the heart to remove them on my own. feel free to remove those redlinks, seriously. and welcome to WP, its a lot of fun once you get the rules, even if all you ever do is edit cal jazz articles.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 03:12, 16 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
