There are many ways you can contribute to Wikipedia. Here are a few ideas:
    Fight vandalism
Be a WikiFairy or a WikiGnome
    Help contribute to articles
    Perform maintenance tasks

Become a member of a project that interests you
    Help design new templates
Subscribe and contribute to The Signpost
Translate articles from Wikipedias in other languages

To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. You can create your own personal sandbox for use any time. It's perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you can put {{My sandbox}} on your userpage.

Please remember to:

  • Always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the   button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes ~~~~ at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your signature, a link to your talk page, and a timestamp.
  • Leave descriptive edit summaries for your edits. Doing so helps other editors understand what changes you have made and why you made them.
The best way to learn about something is to experience it. Explore, learn, contribute, and don't forget to have some fun!

UFO incidents in South Korea

edit

Hello ProfGeorge Campbell, and welcome to Wikipedia. I earlier today reverted (that is, removed) one of your edits to the article List of reported UFO sightings, and tomorrow I intend to revert the other, similar entry you made about another sighting in South Korea. I began a new section on the article's Talk page to explain why I did so, and I invite you to discuss the topic there. Because you are a new editor, however, I thought it best to also explain my action here on your own Talk page. Content in Wikipedia articles require explicit support of, and citation to, verifiable reliable sources. You can read all about reliable sources at WP:RS. I also encourage you to read WP:FRINGE, which deals with how Wikipedia deals with fringe topics like ufo sightings, including its sub-section WP:FRIND. I note here that YouTube videos are not reliable sources (see WP:RSPS), independent of the video producer, or who appears in them, or who writes them, etc. Our own personal interpretations and analyses of sources, which constitute original research, are also to be avoided (see WP:OR). Additionally it is impossible for me, and I would guess 99+% of the readers of the english-language Wikipedia, to judge the reliability of the Korean sources you used. The sources might be reliable, but they might just as easily be sensationalist, pro-fringe, and unreliable; i.e., unsuitable for an encyclopedia.

I recognize that I suggested a mountain of reading to you. By reading those policies, however, I believe you will not only understand the basis of my reversions, but will (I hope) understand the foundation upon which the reverted content might be restored. Feel free to engage further on my own Talk page, or better yet on the article Talk page, where other editors might provide suggestions and input. JoJo Anthrax (talk) 18:04, 14 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
