Article Help

I appreciate your help with my edits on the self-injury page. I have also edited the body modification and body suspension pages. I have created a user page about my work, largely in this area, but have trouble finding out how I can turn it into a biography article. Might you be able to make suggestions? ˜˜˜˜ —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sharonkfarber (talkcontribs) 19:42, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello, with regards to you request for help on creating a biography page, it is strongly discouraged to edit articles related to or about yourself, see WP:COI. I would, therefore, recommend keeping any biographical information on yourself on your userpage (Please note there are also guidelines on what content can be included to your userpage WP:UP#NOT, excessive personal information is not encouraged). You may, however, cite yourself in articles, as long as the sources meet the wikipedia reliable sources guidelines WP:RS.
If you would like more information on how to create a wikipedia page, then this article may be of interest. Jdrewitt (talk) 20:34, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Further revisions to the Self Injury article

I don't have the Wikipedia experience or editing skills to properly integrate these in the article, and since you do a significant amount of editing, I thought this pack of journal articles might help. Every few months I add to my collection so these are maybe 6 months behind current publishing but a lot are very recent.

That's a link to a .rar of the journals, there's 44 total plus some miscellaneous SI information I've collected over the years from various sources. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.91.239.41 (talk) 04:36, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello, Thank you but I can't access those files - I'm also a bit wary of opening files from the internet incase they are infected with a virus. It might be better if you could provide a list of the citations i.e. Author, Journal, volume, Page, Year, so that these can be accessed via the journal homepage. Thanks Jdrewitt (talk) 10:40, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
I understand the wariness, but scan them for viruses first. I don't have the time to add them all to the article, I collected these while in college and some after. 72.91.239.41 (talk) 03:12, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
Hi, thanks very much, originally I couldn't access the file but this time it worked and no viruses! There are lots of reliable sources there, I will try and implement them when I get a chance but am very busy writing my own thesis so please don't expect anything for some time, thanks a lot though. Thanks, and a couple questions...

Thanks for the support and help with the Mission: Impossible stuff. I have a big picture question, and two follow-up questions to the big picture question.

My big picture question is if there is an "Ask The Admins" page? i.e. Is there someplace to generally post a very specific question as to "Is this something that fits in with Wikipedia guidelines before I waste time on it?" rather than bugging a particular person (such as I am doing right now)?

The two specific questions which I'd like to pose there, which you may or may not have an answer to...

1. On a fictional character list page (e.g. my Mission: Impossible page), is it reasonable to put a thumbnail photo of each character or is that overdoing it?

2. I've always been told informally that if you take a JPG of a TV show, you "own" the JPG and there are no copyright issues with the owner of the show. (As compared to the issues with capturing and replaying video clips of the show.) To that end, can I take JPGs of the characters from my Mission: Impossible DVDs and post them on Wikipedia? If so, what do I put in the copyright information section for the JPG?

Thanks! -- Bill From DDT Digest 13:20, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello Bill, Yes there is help desk here: Wikipedia:Help_desk. The people who respond may not necessarily be admins but most people there are pretty experienced with wikipedia policy etc. In response to your questions:
  1. I personally think it would be good to have a thumbnail of each character, I think that would be ideal in fact.
  2. I'm not sure about the copyright issues, I think you'll have to ask that one on the help desk.
Hope that helps, if you need any more advice drop me a line. Cheers, Jdrewitt (talk) 14:04, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Follow up...

No one responded to my Help query, but I eventually stumbled on to there being a selection specifically for screen shots, so I'm good to go there.

I replaced your screen shot of Steven Hill with what I hope is a better one.

I think you will like the photos I put up for the characters...I feel like I get the best moment out of the entire first season for each character.

Thanks! -- Bill From DDT Digest 19:01, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Replied at User talk:BillFromDDTDigest. Jdrewitt (talk) 21:17, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

You rock!

Thanks for setting up the fair use stuff on the Mission:Impossible characters page. You really helped me out there. I took off the JPG of all the characters since I didn't know where it came from. I will get a JPG of Jim Phelps once I start on Season Two. Thanks, again! BillFromDDTDigest (talk) 00:33, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Glass pre-project

Hi, I am just starting a kind of "pre-project" concerning the topic glass. Since you contribute frequently to the glass article, you might be interested. What do you think? Feel free to add further content. As soon as it looks more or less good, it might be linked to the glass talk page, and maybe also to the glass article itself under Links. I think it is not possible to start a real glass project page, as the interest might be too low at present.--Afluegel (talk) 20:37, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Hello Afluegel, I like what you have done, I'm certainly willing to contribute to this but I don't have a great deal of time on my hands right now. I think we could certainly add a banner to both the glass talk page and all other pages in Category:Glass, Category:Glass art and Category:Glass history that links to this pre-project, over all the articles in these categories there may be more interest in actually making these improvements. Jdrewitt (talk) 20:49, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Category of talk page

Hi Jdrewitt, thank you for you comment about the glass pre-project. Now I came accross another problem: Could you please review the categories of your talk page? I think only articles should be in the categories glass, glass art, and glass history. Thank you. --Afluegel (talk) 22:18, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

I'm touched - thank you so much, we still have a long way to go to get this to good article status - maybe I will have more time to dedicate to this soon. Thanks Jdrewitt (talk) 21:45, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
OK, you are welcome. Just do what you can in your free time, as your other duties allow. Your work is very appreciated. -- Afluegel (talk) 14:06, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Glass task force

Hi, I hope you are enjoying your wikibreak... In the meantime, a glass task force WP:GLASS is in the middle of getting setted up (see also the related discussion page). Please feel free to contribute and to become a member. Thank you. -- Afluegel (talk) 06:23, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks - I will certainly help out when I can with this but prefer not to put my name down on the list. Jdrewitt (talk) 18:13, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
OK, that is fine. In my opinion the member list does not say much anyway. Important are the actual contributions.--Afluegel (talk) 20:48, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
I've decided to join now that I have some more time to work on this project. Jdrewitt (talk) 10:04, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Accelerators thingymabobs

Would there be a suitable merge target instead of deletion?Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 00:20, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Merging into OPAL would be better I guess. Its actually a reactor, not an accelerator, but I like the term thingymabobs. On their own the instruments are really non-notable but in the main article then I think there is room to right a short description of each instrument with a reference to the actual instrument description on the OPAL webpages themselves. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of research reactors, pulsed neutron source and synchrotrons around the world, we cannot have an article for every single instrument on every beamline, unless the instruments themselves actually meet notability guidelines (e.g. instruments at CERN would probably be notable.) Blanking pages and WP:CSD#G7

Hi Jdrewitt! Just wanted to let you know that when an article has been blanked, I find it is always a good idea to look at the history to see if the blanking was done by the only substantial contributor, such as Scantlly Clad Olympiad. If that's the case, it is usually better to just tag with {{db-g7}} rather than treating it as vandalism. Thanks! Singularity42 (talk) 18:31, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Ok, good point, thanks for letting me know. Jdrewitt (talk) 18:57, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Reverting of good faith edits without discussion

Removing this map without discussion is bad form. Have started a discussion on the talk page. Cheers

Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 19:01, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Well my reversion was also a good faith edit. The image is not explained in the article or adequately in the image legend. So to me it was completely pointless having it there. If you explain in the text what the diagram actually shows then it can stay but at present it is a meaningless diagram which is why I removed it but I probably should have started a discussion as well so sorry about that. Jdrewitt (talk) 20:48, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

self injury

Is the history section going to be permanently removed? Or is the information going to be reincorporated into the article.--Guerillero (talk) 21:24, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

I have already reincorporated it, I was simply moving the section as per my edit summary. Jdrewitt (talk) 21:25, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
I see it. I was on my watchlist and a huge change caught my eye. --Guerillero (talk) 21:31, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

self harm

I moved the page and now there is a boat load of clean up that needs to be done. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. --Guerillero (talk) 21:35, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
