Skandha additions edit

Hi Peaceful5 - Could you help educate me on the basis for your recent additions to the Skandha article? I'm guessing that we're working perhaps from different traditions. (For instance, among translators with whom I'm familiar, I only recollect — and my recollections are frequently faulty — Thanissaro Bhikkhu using "discrimination" for, I think, pañña, but not sañña. "Compositional factors" sounds familiar but I can't rightly place it.) Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks again for your thoughtful efforts! Larry Rosenfeld (talk) 12:37, 9 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Dear Larry, I added the translations I'm most familiar with to aid other people who use the same language. I study in a Tibetan Vajrayana tradition. Here are some sources that use this translation.[1] [2] [3] [4].

In general, discrimination means the ability to discern one thing from another. One definition of the aggregate of discrimination is "a mental factor that functions to apprehend the uncommon signs of an object ... and thereby to distinguish it from other objects"[5] Peaceful5 (talk) 16:34, 9 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Peaceful - most excellent! Your response is very helpful! One of these days I plan to provide citations for each of the translations provided on the Skandha page (e.g., as is done on Mettā) and your information is perfect for such. Thanks again, Larry Rosenfeld (talk) 19:19, 9 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Dorje Shugdens Face.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Dorje Shugdens Face.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Sorry just noticed the rationale. Guest9999 (talk) 13:38, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Kelsang Khyenrab edit

Peaceful, can you also please supply additional biographical information, please? Actually, regarding all of the 3 deputy directors of NKT to present, there appears to be a paucity of information regarding them - it is still easier to find more information about Neil Elliot than of Kelsang Khyenrab.

Re. Samden Gyatso, I have posted some talk regarding the letter on the discussion page. I am aware that he has been disconnected from the NKT, and for historic reasons, it seems to be very relevant to identify just why that is. Of course, it is probably very relevant to the NKT article, as well as NKTs public image as to why it engages is such radical activity.

Thanks for your considered contributions. (20040302 (talk) 08:23, 8 July 2008 (UTC))Reply

Western Shugden Society edit

Thank you for your message. I did mean to add a message about my edits on the articles talk page at the time last night. However, it was getting very late here so left it until today! With regard to the advert tag, I added it initially when I began editing it. At that time I hadn't really reckoned on making such big changes to the article. On reflection it does actually read much less like a promotional material for the WSS now and I have therefore removed the tag. The Primary sources tag I have also now removed as I've added a few more third party sources. Thank you and I hope that clarifies if not please let me know. ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 18:31, 6 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:Westernshugdensociety.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Westernshugdensociety.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 03:33, 7 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

September 2008 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content from Western Shugden Society. When removing text, please specify a reason in the edit summary and discuss edits that are likely to be controversial on the article's talk page. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the text has been restored, as you can see from the page history. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. This refers to your edit removing perfectly valid sourced content when you said in your edit summary, "The views of Kundeling Rinpoche are not related to the goals of the WSS." I should point out that the section heading is "Other groups protesting the ban on Dorje Shugden", therefore it is perfectly relevant to mention other groups and other views. Please do not remove it again. In addition, your next edit after that, in which you restored unsourced content that I had removed, stating "Re-introduced statements by outside observers", there has been no third party, secondary sources added to confirm either the Human Rights Lawyer nor the Special Agents comments. Unfortunately, some text added on two videos on what is, a primary source, does not verify what you added. Also the website you added, (http://www.state.gov/m/ds/immunities/c9090.htm) is simply, as I am sure you are aware, the site of the Protective Liaison Division and it makes no mention whatsoever of the WSS. If you add a source it needs to verify the content you are adding. I realise that you are trying your best to improve the article but please bear in mind it needs to be neutral and that sources need to be correct. Please have a read of WP:VER and WP:RS. Thank you. ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 23:02, 8 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

WSS Infobox edit

Further to the change you made with the Infobox, I added the Infobox originally to the article firstly to improve the article itself and I also added the NPO inofobox specifically as that is the one used by similar campaigning groups. The infobox you changed it to is a generic organization one, but again you gave no explanation as to why you changed it. I would have thought that the WSS was a Non-profit organization. Is that not so? Surely it is not a for-profit organization? If not then fair enough but it would help if you would explain! :) Thank you. ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 23:42, 8 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for explaining about the Infobox. That makes perfect sense.♦Tangerines♦·Talk 15:18, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

WSS edit

I have again amended the content you added. And again I will try and explain for you.

  • With regard to your removal again of perfectly valid content this time with this edit summary, "I really think that this statement by Kundeling Rinpoche is misleading, and it is not clear which of the Chinese' actions he approves of." I have already explained above why the content is valid and requested you not to remove it again. I have therefore again reverted your edit. You might not wish for that content to be on the article, but regardless it is perfectly relevant whether you think it is misleading or not and regardless of what he approves of. Please do not remove it again.
  • With regard to the content talking about a "ban" and your edit summary of "Added two more references establishing that this is a "ban". Don't mean to do overkill on this, but this point is clearly established". Sorry but the point is in no way "clearly established". I have though expanded the content to make th epoint clearer for you from the sources you added. I have though also added, which is only fair, what the Office of Tibet said in May 2008, that it isn't a ban. It is then up to the reader what they wish to believe having read all the sources. My own opinion, for what it is worth, is that it comes across as a ban, but again as I said, it is not "clearly established" at all.
  • Finally with regard to your removal of using the Godwin's Law example with this edit summary, "Please don't trivialize this situation. Perhaps comparisons to Hitler are overused, but the parallel with the identity cards is significant", firstly please do not accuse me of trivialising anything as you are making assumptions on my actions which are unfounded. It is not trivial in the slightest. There was nothing trivial about the holocaust and if the press speaker of WSS wishes to compare the forced wearing of the yellow badge by Jews in 1930s (and 1940s) Germany (it also happened in other European countries where the Nazis were in power) and subsequent execution of millions of Jews, Gypsies etc then it should be noted that it is an example of Godwin's Law, which it is. The parallels as you call them - the forced wearing of the various badges resulted in an estimated six million peoples deaths as instructed by the same people who ordered the badges to be worn. Somehow I doubt that the Dalai Lama or anyone in the Tibetan Go'vt In Exile will be ordering the gassing of people. Please bear that in mind. ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 16:22, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for File:Pabongkha Rinpoche.gif} edit

Thank you for uploading File:Pabongkha Rinpoche.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. File copyright problem with File:Dorje shugden thangka KMC france.JPG edit

File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Dorje shugden thangka KMC france.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. — neuro(talk)(review) 22:43, 25 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I added the CC attribution, as per the German version of the same file. Peaceful5 (talk) 22:45, 25 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (File:Books-bv-front.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading File:Books-bv-front.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Orphaned non-free media (File:Books-utm-front.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading File:Books-utm-front.jpg.

Files missing description details edit

Dear uploader: The media files you uploaded as:

are missing a description and/or other details on their image description pages. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors make better use of the images, and they will be more informative to readers.

If the information is not provided, the images may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

If you have any questions, please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Theo's Little Bot (error?) 10:34, 14 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Dorjeshugdenfull.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Dorjeshugdenfull.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chris Fynn (talk) 17:31, 13 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
