Thanks for the pictures of the books you posted. I tried to copy them but they came out too small to read the text for some reason, so I'll have to copy the text by hand when I have a bit of time. Richerman (talk) 23:16, 31 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ok I've got them now - I thought I must be doing something wrong. Thanks a lot. Richerman (talk) 23:32, 31 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Paget-Tomlinson edit

Doesn't it say on the ref pp148-149? (btw I think when you go to single pages you are meant to reference them as p not pp).Geni 13:34, 4 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

A range of pages is accepted within books. In this case the reason for the range is that there is a single short section within the book that spills across two pages.Geni 14:47, 4 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

MBB Canal - Costs edit

I changed the order because pre-decimal amounts were always listed in Pounds(£), shillings(s) and pence(d) in descending order. Also since there were 20 shillings in a pound and 12d (old pence) in a shilling, the data listed in the columns reflect the £sd order. It is odd that the original document shows 'd' and 's' reversed and I assume that it is a mistake in the original document. BTW, I am also a post-decimal child. Hi there, you may have noticed that I have addressed or fixed 95% of your suggested amendments to this article. Once again, I appreciate your valued assistance. Just wanted to know if you think the article is now ready for GA consideration and if yes, what is the next step. Happy to discuss. Regards, Spy007au (talk) 08:13, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Shrinking Maps edit

In order to insert the infobox, we could do with smaller maps.

Take a look at Peak Forest Canal for a collapsible map!

Salford Lads Club edit

Hi how have i advertised information on Salford Lads club, clearly there is information on Salford Lads club and filming that has taken place there? How can it be advertising if the film was made in 2003 and it was fact? forgive me if i dont completley know everything about posting comments, but i feel that their is bit bious as there is no links on some of the pages edited by your sewing circle regards Paul —Preceding unsigned comment added by Paulbeatz (talkcontribs) 02:37, 26 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi thanks for the message, that is completely a prejudice remark, the person inquestion is a new film director, and he most have some notability as if he didnt i wouldnt of written or researched his profile, and as a Minority film director working in a predominantly white working class neighbourhood, its is not only educational and should be made interest for the public. Wikipedia is a public domaign education site where information is based on fact.

However if you feel he is not notable to be mentioned on the Salford Lads Club link I am sure that there wont be any tears falling. But Next time please tell me you are deleting my information, because i dont care less if you allow me to input my information, but what i do care is this system where other users seem to feel they have gods power. Notability is a subjective just because I am one of the first people to find and build upon this director doesnt mean he isnt notable. Anyway i will not revert it back to old link because clearly Salford Lads club is no terrortory for minority new film directors.

regards Paul Beatz —Preceding unsigned comment added by Paulbeatz (talkcontribs) 14:27, 26 August 2008 (UTC) Hi Parrot I deleted your message because I found it more derogative rather than based on fact! And this is my Talk page, since you are deleting my work which I spent over a week in compiling it would of been courteous in you send this message and explaining the reasons, as im starting to feel that there is a certain system were new people are not allowed to contribute to pages. Which in my opinion is a terrible shame. there were so many message sent to me to change link the page because its an orphan and when I do using real and authentic sources its gets deleted. I wanted to be the first person to contribute to this director Ahmad as I watched his film at a screening in Manchester University as part of anthropology class. The film director has gained alot of accol. Ok I do not know him personally or have any personal link or association with him. So I can only gather information from him which is authentic. Anyway I am not going to revert back. Good on you and may your page blossom. All my information is genuine and authentic and i know this because i spent 1 week searching. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Paulbeatz (talkcontribs) 18:26, 26 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oh yeah and Jesus Christ, its in his documentary. Wikipedia is there for educational purpose not whos got the bigger reputation. The director has some sort of notibilty, and its in his documentary which includes Salford Lads Club. Also in my opinion how many British Minorities make films in Salford Lads club yet alone in Salford.

I am from manchester and beleive me i know. So not only is this educational, it give a better angle on whom has worked at the Salford Lads club and it doesnt only attract white 80s Musicians, but as well as British Asians. And for me this is why i chose to post on this link. As i think its of interest for the Salford Lads club and also for any educational purposes. It doesnt make a differecne if the film was made for 1 p or million pounds. The project was made at the biggining of the directors career, and for me this is how one should write a BIO. so im sorry to say you are clearly wrong.

Perhaps its because you dont know who he is or dont care and fair play. But do not undermine my work or integrity as i have gathered genuine infomration. I am a regular guy and i started off making this directors profile geeeez if i new it was so much work i would of left it. But now im more determined because its not about the directors profile its about me and the other vetran contributors

Regards Paul. Ps there are no bad vibes my way, im new so next time a message first a polite message stating your concerns then i would be more than glad to rectify the errors, but please dont undermine my integrity. I have worked hard to build an educational profile for a british film director whom lives in my area and if from a minority. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Paulbeatz (talkcontribs) 18:37, 26 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Parrot good for you! If people would like to read it good for them, let them search it on your talk page. As since you have deleted comments i so can delete yours

Regardless I have an article which is from the Salford Press in 2003 which has all the actors as well as Damien Noonan. But its not posted on the net. So that makes it genuine. The problem im having is trying to find it on the net. But im sure i will. My information is Authentic regards Paul —Preceding unsigned comment added by Paulbeatz (talkcontribs) 18:47, 26 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Dear Parrot, Geeeez so all along i didnt have to post articles from the net so long as they are either paper, or from universities. well someone could of told me before. I have loads of articles newspapers clipings but i thought it had to be internet based.

What exactly do i need to put in ref section when posting authentic material for the public. Anyway i will give you the information if you feel its right for that page then you post it, as im not going to now. Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice edit

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Kersal Cell edit

Thanks for that - I hadn't realised how bad it got before it was renovated recently. I was in the Salford local history library today and saw they were selling a book called "The Manchester Bolton and Bury Canal" for £3.75. It looked like one of those Neil Richardson local history books but A5 rather than the usual A4 size. I couldn't remember the name of the author when I got back but I couldn't see anythig listed in the article's bibliography that looked like it. Would you like me to check it out? Hi, There's a book reference I found that may interest you here

Manchester Bolton & Bury Canal - Featured Article! edit

Congratulations, your hard work paid off! The article was obviously closer to FA status than I had originally thought, as I still haven't (proof-)read right the way through it! Glad I could be of some help.

The section on preservation could support an article in its own right, although you'll need to track down the references -- I'm surprised there isn't more on the canal society website. I'll drop some notes on the talk page for you to peruse.

I watched the video of the opening last night and was very impressed with what has been achieved so far. It looks like a good project to be involved with. The tunnelled approach to that huge lock looks rather daunting!

re - restoration
While composing my latest addition to the talk page (honestly, I'm not having a go at you, I'm just wanting to ensure we have the facts straight!) a slightly wicked thought came to my mind...
I had this mental picture of members of the MMB Canal Society taking matters into their own hands when the funding was not forthcoming. I pictured balaclava'd volunteers placing explosives under a culverted road bridge across the line of the canal, and then stepping forward after the aftermath and saying "...while you're at it, could the rebuilding allow for space for the canal underneath?" I didn't think I should put this thought on the MMBC talk page though!! :o)

Russian Ground Forces edit

Hi Parrot of Doom. I've just seen your last comment at the FARC. I'm committed to improving this article, but am not fully aware of some of the rules involved. Would you mind pointing out the peacock terms in the Equipment section, and as many of the grammar problems as you care to name? I don't follow the ins and outs of WP grammar standards closely, and am very close to the article in the first place, given that I wrote most of it, so I have great difficulty actually identifying the problems. Thanks Buckshot06(prof) 18:47, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Avoid peacock terms. As for the grammatical errors, the article needs a copyedit. I don't really have time to do that for you, I have other articles I'm working on. Parrot of Doom (talk) 20:04, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
