Speedy deletion nomination of Tatanka (musician)

A tag has been placed on Tatanka (musician), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia for multiple reasons. Please visit the article for details.

You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

Hi – you blocked this user for a week. They're back, apparently unrepentent, with consistently very offensive edit summaries. Is a longer block perhaps appropriate? Richard New Forest (talk) 16:51, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

I've left a final warning. Q T C 19:06, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi. Please consider expanding your block of the open proxy at 189.27.28.240 to 189.26.0.0/16 and 189.27.0.0/16 - see http://toolserver.org/~pathoschild/stalktoy/?target=189.26.0.0/15 for details. Thanks!   — Jeff G.  ツ 16:37, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Galla_Ramachandra_Naidu

This article would still meet the csd standers of A7 however i removed it for the copyright vio instead. Should i re add {"csd-person} to the article. -- Staffwaterboy Critique Me 07:46, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

Nah, it's still copyvio. Page says GFDL, wikipedia cannot accept gfdl-only text. Q T C 07:47, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
Looking at the history of the article, I strongly suspect wikibin was taking a copy of what we deleted last September, and is just mislabelling the rights situation out of confusion. Either way, I've rewritten the article - it very clearly passes A7 (to be honest, it did before) and it no longer resembles the nominally copied text. Shimgray | talk | 01:06, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi Q

Your edits-per-page tool is really useful here. The question came up whether the tool was uncounting. Are there any types of edits that would typically be made at WP:UAA or WP:UAAB that it wouldn't count for some reason? (Watching) - Dank (push to talk) 01:33, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

No, it (should) counts everything. Q T C 03:03, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Not using talk page as a forum comment

Hey, I removed your comment at Talk:The Event (TV series), comments of this nature lose their point. They move, possibly get archived, and aren't visible enough to prevent forum chatter on the talk page. Better use the template {{Notaforum}} at the top of the page. Xeworlebi (talk) 15:04, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

I figured there was a template. Q T C 16:56, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

Please either unprotect your /Lockbox page, or use your own local copy of {{UserStatus}}, which is not editable by anyone but admins because of your transclusion of it on that page, and it needs editing for better compatibility with similar templates. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 05:30, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

mw:Extension:SocialProfile + Postgres

Hi, OverlordQ. I'm sysop on pt.wikipedia and eo.wikipedia and I was in the last Wikimania, in Poland. I'm looking for tools that integrates MediaWiki with other Web 2.0 resources, and this extension seems to be very useful. Unfortunately, nobody's developed the PostgreSQL schema for SocialProfile yet, as Jack Phoenix said. As you are an expert on that, would you please tell me if it's a too difficult thing to do? Thanks. CasteloBrancomsg 19:47, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

I'll try to look at it this weekend. Q T C 23:55, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

WARNING! Blocked USER Thmc1 is abusing once again! PLEASE READ!

I want to report that someone I suspect to be blocked user Thmc1 (logged on as IP Address 96.242.217.91 and sometimes 151.198.55.159) may be trying to continue his/her use of Wikipaedia as a propaganda tool. This person, whicn I have reason to believe is Thmc1, is attempting to pawn his revisionist pro-NY views, citing un-reliable business/travel sites as his source. When others undo his edits for this very fact, what does he do? He comes back with a similar business/travel site and says "Here's your proof!". If you examine the logs carefully, you will notice that activity from IPs 96.242.217.91 and 151.198.55.159 were virtually non-existent prior to Thmc1 being banned in June 2010. Since then, both IPs have come alive with activity displaying behavior identical to Thmc1's- using business/travel sites as souces over & over again and making edits to the very same pages! In his quest to seek re-instatement, Thmc1 claimed that he had learned his lesson and would never abuse Wikipedia again. Apparently, he has not learned that lesson. You were right in refusing his requests, and I hope that this will carry over to what is happening now. I STRONGLY urge that you initiate an investigation, which will hopefully lead to blocking him out again.MBaxter1 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 18:53, 1 December 2010 (UTC).

It's not the file merely "doesn't exist", it's that it disappeared into a mysterious black hole which the Wikimedia Foundation is refusing to give any details or explanation about. Irish vandal

Thanks to you and Huggle for reverting today's vandalism to De La Salle College Waterford. I've undone a number of that IP's other edits, both today and in the past, and can't find a single positive or even doubtful contribution. I took the matter to WP:AIV in September and the IP was blocked for 72 hours then for a month. Do you think it's worth considering a further block? I don't want to stalk the contributor, but the edits are consistently negative and potentially libellous (several have been oversighted). Certes (talk) 21:08, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Request for Interview Regarding Wikipedia Bots

Greetings OverlordQ-

My name is Randall Livingstone, and I am a graduate student at the University of Oregon, currently collecting data for my dissertation on Wikipedia editors who create and use bots and assisted editing tools, as well as editors involved in the initial and/or ongoing creation of bot policies on Wikipedia. As a member of BAG and the bot community, I would very much like to interview you for the project at a time and in a method that is most convenient for you (Gchat, another IM client, Skype, email, telephone, etc.). I am completely flexible and can work with your schedule. The interview will take approximately 30-45 minutes.

My dissertation project has been approved both by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at the University of Oregon, and by the Research Committee at the Wikimedia Foundation. You can find more information on the project on my meta page.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and I look forward to hearing from you to set up a time to chat. Thank you very much.

MSU Interview

Dear OverlordQ,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.11.206.39 (talk) 03:47, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

Abuse Filter on the Article Feedback Tool

Hey there :). You're being contacted because you're an edit filter manager, At the moment, we're developing Version 5 of the Article Feedback Tool, which you may or may not have heard about. To do so, we're working the Abuse Filter into the tool.

For this to work, we need people to write and maintain filters. I'd be very grateful if you could take a look at the discussion here and the attached docs, and comment and contribute! Thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 18:27, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

IP-locator

Dear OverlordQ,

Your tool to locate anonymous users seems to have some constraints. It does not work well. The Plan B you mention does not help much. Tip: IpLocationTools works a lot better. In the case of dynamic addresses they come at least with the right country is my experience. Just a free tip to possible improvement of one of your great tools.
Kind regards from Toscana, Italia. FYI: Forementioned site reported Lombardia :). Better than nothing like you did.
 |Klaas ‌ V| 17:40, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

What tool are you referring to, IIRC I dont have any tools that claim to 'locate' users, my whois tool is not a geolocation service. It looks up ISP information. Q T C 00:27, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

The fun is that iplocationtools does that as well, so with less work more information and giving as much information as we can is what we normally do in an encyclopedia, don't we?  |Klaas ‌ V| 09:02, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
Generally different use cases. whois gives information more technically orientated information such as technical contact information, address ranges, etc. Q T C 18:45, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

Hello. The query doesn't work. Why? Greetings --Tlustulimu (talk) 16:44, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Hello OverlordQ! I'm active at the german wikipedia. I have the same problem with your whois tool, too. I asked some other authors from the german wikipedia. All of them, which I have asked, have the same problem with your tool, too. It seems to be statistical, if it works correctly one time and one time not. In approximately 1 of 4 trials it works and in 3 of 4 not. For example you could try this one: http://toolserver.org/~overlordq/cgi-bin/whois.cgi?lookup=87.148.101.236 When I refresh this page a few times (10 or 20 times), sometimes the tool works correctly and sometimes not. Maybe you could test this, too? I noticed this bug nearly one or two weeks ago. I hope, you can reproduce this bug and fix it. -- Thanks and greetings from Germany -- Kleiner Stampfi (talk) 19:26, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

It seems one of the webservers has been blocked from making queries that have to hit RIPE. I've sent them an email and will try to get this sorted out, for now though if you prepend the url with wolfsbane, ie: wolfsbane.toolserver.org it should work for now. Q T C 23:43, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
Hello Q! Thanks for your work. I hope, your tool respectively all the used servers will be work correctly soon. :-) -- Thanks and greetings from Germany -- Kleiner Stampfi (talk) 23:35, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

Moving to labs

HI OverlordQ. I wondered, the toolserver will be closed soon, so maybe you could move this tool (and others?) to WMF Labs? Regards, Trijnsteltalk 19:52, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

(edit conflict) Hello. Are you interested in moving your Toolserver tools to Tool Labs? Are they open source/free? πr2 (tc) 19:53, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I'll be moving them, I just havent had any free time lately. Q T C 02:15, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
Could you please do it asap? The toolserver could be shut down very soon and we don't want to lose your tool. Trijnsteltalk 15:26, 2 February 2014 (UTC)
Yeah sorry, was waiting on a response to my access request. Q T C 22:01, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

Toolserver migration needed (TorCheck)

Your script

//toolserver.org/~overlordq/scripts/checktor.fcgi?ip=

example:

Tor check ·

is used in several wkis and needs migration to ToolLabs before June (after that ToolServer will shutdown, see Tech News this week, announced by WMDE). Could you update your page to indicate the new URL in ToolLabs? Or is there another script there to replace it? It is currently used on Wikipedia in Template:Anontools/ipv4 (also on Meta-Wiki and a few others). Thanks. verdy_p (talk) 00:47, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

I have a toollabs account, I'll try working on migrating everything over. Q T C 01:01, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

Tower Data

Hi, I see you redirected and merged some content relating to Tower Data. I have no reason to suggest this edit was not in good faith. However, the current changes dont make much sense to me leaving me confused. The page name is now TowerData, but I think now the Rapleaf product is only a small feature of the total TowerData company and product line. It says online that Tower Data has thousands of employees and billions in revenue and Rapleaf had hundreds of employees and maybe millions in revenue...I dont see the old wiki record, but I am not an expert. I asked an administrator to look at this too, maybe they can help. I would just revert the changes, but that doesnt seem like it will help as the older entries just look like Rapleaf, so I am confused on how to help. Thus I asked the administrators to take a look.   There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Abuse filters

Hi, because of an irritating AbuseFilter bug, we (Kaldari, MusikAnimal and I) are going to do an update next week that will affect some of your filters. We hope we'll fix all affected filters ourselves, but we're of course grateful if you want to help us. The issue is explained here; the current plan is here. In any case, we wanted you to be aware what's happening, and you're very welcome to help out of course. Some of the filters are hidden so I won't name them here, but you're very welcome to contact me if you want to know which ones are affected and tell me how you want me to list them. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 12:29, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, OverlordQ. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard.
