November 2008 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, adding content without citing a reliable source, as you did to Charles Darwin, is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources, please take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. I note that you are also making significant changes to articles, not just this one, and labelling them Minor. Please stop this. Minor edits are things such as spelling corrections, not changes in the meaning of a sentence or paragraph or in this case adding unsourced information which also, again in this case and in the case of Evolution appears to be POV. dougweller (talk) 05:55, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Theory of evolution problem edit

Wow they would not let you call Darwin's theory evolution a theory or even use the word theory. I do that with Einstien's theory of relativity all the time and it is a proven phenonemon. If you're serious about solving these unfair bias "ALL parts of Darwin's theory are the truth case closed you're deleted as a creationist" stuff email me at myspace.com/humanawakening and youtube.com/playitalready I do not think the entire theory is false but I do think parts of it are unscientific/illogical and their force of this faulty cult like thing is immoral. We can talk more if you message me. PLease also send this to others alike. if not good luck bye. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sfvace (talkcontribs) 03:10, 11 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Densefearbloodlinepromo.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Densefearbloodlinepromo.jpg, which you've attributed to http://ironangel.webs.com/photos.htm. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:06, 20 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Copyright violation across Windows articles edit

Hello

Thank you for uploading those beautiful Windows screenshots...

...which are now deleted because of copyright violation.

Instead of uploading them to Wikipedia, you uploaded them its sister site, Wikimedia Commons. That website does not accept non-free image. The surprising thing is that you didn't even preview your uploads, or else would have noticed their messy state. I put a copyright violation notice on some, but on some others, the software had already noticed of the problem and has marked your image for deletion.

Now, it is important that you understand why I reverted your changes: Well, it was for damage control. Unused non-free images get deleted in Wikipedia and if I hadn't reverted your changes, we'd have ended up with article that had no images at all.

Next time you wanted to upload something, please study WP:NFC first. As a general rule, unless the existing screenshot is seriously outdated, so much so that the newer image is indistinguishable from the old, don't replace the image. Also, all software screenshot must come from the operating systems that supported them. I am referring to Microsoft Office 97 screenshots. There was no call uploading a new one for that.

Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 14:09, 13 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

It appears you have heeded the copyright notice but chose to disregard WP:NFCC this time, committing NFCC violations in large scales. This is one of those rare thing for which you can get blocked in Wikipedia. So, pretty please, with some sugar on the top, study WP:NFC. July 2016 edit

Please do not introduce incorrect information into articles, as you did to Template:Microsoft Windows components. Your edits could be interpreted as vandalism and have been reverted. If you believe the information you added was correct, please cite references or sources or discuss the changes on the article's talk page before making them again. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. FleetCommand (Speak your mind!) 12:55, 15 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi User:FleetCommand. I did not intend to introduce incorrect information. My intention was to provide updated information, as much of the series on Windows focus on outdated technology from the Vista/7 era and treats Windows 10's updates as a passing thought. As per your suggestions, I have added sources to confirm the changes and reverted your edit to that particular page. (Windows Journal's removal is the hardest to confirm because no major writers have talked about it, but some users have noted it in the comment section and I have noticed myself that it was pulled. The others were documented pretty decently with articles published during the transition from 8.1 to 10.)
Nonetheless, my edits were all in good faith and attempted (unsuccessfully) to abide by the copyright restrictions on Wikipedia. Would be happy to discuss further ways to get the outdated articles and screenshots up-to-date in an acceptable manner. Apologies for any inconveniences. Hi.
You must really slow down! I am very sorry to say that you are editing too aggressively and too carelessly.
When your edit in a template is disputed, especially a template that is rendered in many articles, STOP! Do no more editing in the template unless you talked to the disputing editor in the template talk page and coordinated your future actions. Open a new thread there and state what problem your perceive and what solution you suggest.
See you there.
Oh, and by the way. In Wikipedia, we indent our replies, the way I have done it here.

Copying within Wikipedia requires proper attribution edit

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Windows Mail into Mail (Windows). While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. Paint and Paint 3D edit

Hi

What made you think that Paint 3D is even related to Paint? (Because they have "Paint" in their names?) From where I am standing, these are two separate apps that do two different things. Even you yourself have said Paint 3D "coexists with the previous version of Paint as of build 14955".

The word of wisdom is: WP:CRYSTAL. Don't jump to conclusions.

Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 15:50, 27 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Codename Lisa,
Microsoft explained on the video of their Surface event that Paint 3D is the next version of Paint. Likewise, the app itself has an introductory video inside that says the same thing and shows pictures of the old versions of Paint morphing and eventually becoming the new Paint 3D. I tried to state this information into the article itself, as well as with the citations. One of the citations was a link to the broadcast. There's also a video in which a Microsoft spokesperson states "the Paint you know and love is still there" in Paint. (The "3D" part of the name is not present in the video or the version of the app that leaked back in May, suggesting that Microsoft may have intended for users to consider it the same app as the old Paint.)
I disagree with the claim that the apps do "two different things." The new Paint 3D does pretty much everything the old one does (multi-window view and jump lists are the exceptions) and borrows visual design elements from the previous versions' ribbon, sidebar, and file menus.
In regards to the fact that Paint 3D exists alongside the Win32 app in Insider Preview builds, that's likely because it's in development and testing. Throughout Windows 10 development cycles, there have been many cases in which Microsoft allowed an older version of an app to coexist with a newer version with a different code base while the latter was being developed. Examples include Store, Xbox Video/Movies & TV, Xbox Music/Groove Music, Sticky Notes, Calculator, Sound Recorder/Voice Recorder, and Skype. In the first 6 cases, the apps only coexisted in the betas and older version of the app was totally gone by the time the next stable build of Windows was released. With the case of Skype, they have stated that the old version will be phased out once the new version is out of preview. Additionally, the stable and beta versions of the Xbox app can coexist on the same system without issue.
I do plan to reinstate the edit eventually, but it can wait a little while since the Windows 10 Creators Update that will introduce Paint 3D to the general public is not anticipated until March. There are hints that the next preview of Windows 10 will show what the Creators Update is likely to actually look like. At that time, the old version of Paint will likely disappear. Let's revisit the issue if/when the old version disappears and/or Dona mentions in a release note that it is planned to be phased out. Fair enough?
Onecatowner (talk) 03:50, 28 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
Wow. I am convinced.
Still I agree with waiting. It is still beta and too early to throw away the existing screenshots and icons. Maybe we do that eventually, but for now, the Paint that most people know is Microsoft Paint.
And keep an open mind about a new article called Paint 3D that coexists with the old Paint article, because of contents issue. You see, for example, we have a Microsoft Security Essentials article and a Windows Defender article because we had enough content to create two article.
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 08:54, 28 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi again and happy holidays!
You're right, it would be good to wait. Sorry for jumping the gun. As for creating a new article, I'd be happy to contribute to it if you and other editors feel that it would be best to say that Paint was replaced by Paint 3D. Personally, though, I think it would be better to edit the existing article. This case seems more like the Sticky Notes, Mail (Windows), or Skype kind than the Microsoft Security Essentials/Windows Defender or Microsoft Solitaire/Microsoft Solitaire Collection kind. In the latest preview build of Windows 10 (14971), Paint 3D now comes preinstalled and the MSPaint.exe shortcut, the edit option in a right click menu for photos, and the Start menu listing for classic Paint all launch the Paint 3D Preview; also, it is looking like all or most of the traditional functionality will be there in Paint 3D. As radical as the new interface may be, it seems less extreme than the ongoing Skype desktop/Skype Preview transition.
Also, FYI, it looks like Windows Defender will undergo radical change in the same update that brings in Paint 3D. It will be a UWP design that integrates Windows Firewall and Family Safety and introduces new features. The screenshot was from a video that aired at the Paint 3D event. A major edit for that article may be needed next year...
Best, Onecatowner 04:01, 25 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi Codename Lisa,
Good call on waiting! It turns out Microsoft ended up going a different direction and releasing it as a separate app. I spun off a new article for Paint 3D. Also, I and some others made changes to the Windows Defender article, where the old UI was fully replaced with a new UWP version.

Your contributed article, MSN apps edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, MSN apps. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – MSN. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at MSN – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. SorryNotSorry 20:11, 14 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Just fixed the redundancy from MSN. Should have done that before creating the new page for MSN apps. Lesson learned, thanks!

Disambiguation link notification for April 12 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Skype, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Azure. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

April 2017 edit

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours for edit warring and violating the three-revert rule. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may request an unblock by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection.  Jauerbackdude?/dude. 12:32, 17 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

You knew you were edit warring with this edit summary, yet you continued. Why would you do that? Yet you never actually warned the other user, and I have to AGF that maybe they didn't know that edit warring was wrong. Hence, you're blocked and they are not (yet). 3D Builder moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, 3D Builder, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please follow the prompts on the Articles for Creation template atop the page. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Alarms & Clock.jpeg edit

A tag has been placed on File:Alarms & Clock.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. – Batreeq (Talk) (Contribs) 06:25, 10 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:MSN Money.png edit

Thank you for uploading File:MSN Money.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Also:

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 20 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
