Lois Lowry

In reply to your message, I do not think that the first issue you mention is technically possible. To prove that it is, you'd need to show us a diff that is not recorded in the history. If you have such a diff, the best place to ask for further help would be the technical issues village pump.

As for the second issue, what you are looking for is semi-protection. You may request it on the requests for protection page, but it will not usually be done indefinitely. Sandstein (talk) 06:26, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Contralto "See also"

Tone? You would rather I adopted yous? No matter. Requests are requests you are attempting to make demands. The rush? I don't know why do you keep rushing to remove it? You think all the images are bot added? Well that would explain some of your attitude but well that isn't true. AWB is not in any case a bot per se and wasn't written by David Gerrad. The image is mostly the work of editor at large. This is all documented. Since the opera wikiproject does not own the article in question editing it in any given way cannot be considered considerate or inconsiderate. The arguments against it boil down to "I don't like it". Create edit wars? You reverted me first. A Texas Trilogy

I noticed you changed the plays from one act to full length. How do you know they are full length? The plays were presented together in one evening. It would be unusual to have three whole plays performed together on one night.Nrswanson (talk) 04:35, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

At the very least, LuAnn Hampton Laverty Oberlander is a full length. I own a script of it is indeed a full-length play. I'm sure if the other two plays are of a comparable length, an evening of all three would still be shorter than the nine hours of The Coast of Utopia, which were presented together. In fact, three 90 minute plays would still be shorter than Hamlet.  ;) Further, its IBDB entry lists the Texas Trilogy as "Three Full Length-Plays in Repertory". Well you started the section - and someone else ran with it! Is it worthwhile debating A vs B when you don't want either of them? Actually I am just getting up to speed with this again - I think it's all going well. I'd like to see a centralized discussion about bio-infoboxes eventually but it would need a lot of preparation. Read your article on BCMS

Very nice. I have two suggestions:

1. The lead describes BCMS as an organization. At first I thought it was an organization that run a concert series, like the Harrisburg chamber music society, the Highland Park chamber music society and so on. Only later did I figure out that is an organization of musicians, and not of supporters. So you might want to change the lead to say something like "BCMS is an ensemble" or "BCMS is an organization of chamber musicians that offers a concert series in Boston..."

2. I personally don't like wikilinking to articles that don't exist, and most likely will never exist. It makes the article look all red and ugly. Unless you are planning to write articles about all those musicians yourself in the next few months, I would suggest that you unlink them.

Tenor

Hi. In response to your request, I have a few comments. The first is a bit of nit-picking: your list of leggiero tenor roles is sort of in alphabetical order but not quite: if Count Almaviva is alphabetised as A (correct) then Don Ottavio and Don Ramiro ought to be alphabetised as O and R - which might draw your attention to Ramiro appearing twice in the current list.

Second, more substantially (and I am not a singer or student of voice), I wonder if you're basing your classification a bit too heavily on one book (which I don't know, incidentally, but that's what it looks like from reading the article). The whole fach system isn't really very cut-and-dried, and, what's more, different countries have different systems. Do you have access to the Oxford Dictionary of Opera? One of the things it says (sv "tenor") is "many subdivisions exist within opera-houses: the commonest in general use (though seldom by composers in scores) are given below...", and it goes on to list French, German and Italian terms. The WP article is mostly English/Italian, with a bit of German - but if you look at fach, it goes into a lot of fine detail about the German system. Altogether, the whole thing is a big can of worms, with an awful lot of roles and an awful lot of voices not fitting cleanly into any one category. (I'm just getting up an article on Ragnar Ulfung, who sang Don Jose, Don Carlos, Otello - and then Mime, Herod and Dr Blind.)

Back to nit-picking. What is Wunderlich doing in the leggiero category? Sure, he sang the Mozart roles [including Tamino, which is in your "full-lyric" category], and Almaviva (no doubt without "Cessa di piu resistere"), but could you see him as Ramiro or Tonio? Also, he sang heavier roles such as Palestrina. In the same category, Chris Merritt is now singing character-roles... Anyway, I won't go on, except to say that the Heldentenor list really ought to be divided in two: most singers of Siegmund, Parsifal, Tristan and Walther never go on to sing Siegfried - examples are Vickers and King from the past and Robert Dean Smith from today. Furthermore, what is Loge doing in this list? In my experience, the role is normally sung by a character-tenor or one who can also sing David.

Infobox proscription tag

This tag, which you re-added to Maria Callas, leads to a section that asserts consensus in an issue that has no consensus, as evidenced in the many discussions linked by that section. Robert K S (talk) 06:26, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

"There is a broad consensus at the opera wikiproject."--Can you show me where this consensus was developed? I have reviewed the linked discussions, and I have only found a lot of disagreement. "The project's policy is to not include info boxes on opera singer articles (a policy that was made through discussion with broad consensus across project members)" Actually, the current language of the policy was approved a few months ago by three editors. "I suggest you bring it up there if you feel that Maria Callas should have one. There have been several major problems with info boxes on opera singer articles hense the policy." I have brought it up there, and we'll see what happens. This isn't about me wanting an infobox at Maria Callas--frankly, I don't have an opinion on the matter. This is about having a few editors pretend a consensus exists on a controversial issue, and then tag a slew of articles with "enforcement" messages in violation of WP:OWN. Alessandra Marc page

I've updated the information on Alessandra Marc's page to include information about her performances of music from the Second Viennese School of which she is a specialist. She made numerous recordings of these works with her late mentor, Giuseppe Sinopoli (Alban Berg and Arnold Schoenberg and also recorded Zemlinsky's Lyrische Symphonie on Deca with Riccardo Chailly. Thank you for all of your work to update Alessandra Marc's discography. I actually produced her official website and know she will appreciate this. I've added the other Alban Berg and Arnold Schoenberg recordings to the list of recordings (references and ASIN numbers from Amazon.de). I've also re-added the reference to the Second Viennese School to the first line of her bio. This is now well-referenced by recordings of Berg, Schoenberg and Zemlinsky, most of them personally prepared with her mentor, Dr. Giuseppe Sinopoli. Hi Nrswanson,

I've seen your contributions to articles like Human voice and Chest voice and your user page and I was wondering if you are familiar with breathing techniques in music as well, like full/complete breathing? (i.e. a few breathings combined together). When I would write a stub myself, I might use terminology of yoga which I tried to prevent and therefore I was looking for the article on en.wikipedia (I'm usually on nl.-) but it's still not here. The article diaphragmatic breathing (abdominal breathing) is yet there, but that one is focused for a part on yoga too. All together I'm looking for a committed user on subjects like singing, brass, or physical exercises with the knowledge to write an article on it. Would you maybe be able and willing to start an article on full breathing/complete breathing? In case you won't, would you know of someone that would be? Thank you for considering my question. Tenor: your reversal of my edit — Why?

In your edit, you reversed all of my changes I made in the previous edit, except my removal of M. Jackson, without summarising your edit as a reversal (which in itself strikes me as odd).

I wonder if you can give me your reasons for doing so. I will provide my reasons for my changes here:

1. The two extra blank lines above "==Tenor in choral music==" are superfluous.
2. The bolding after "To hear an example of a Leggiero tenor" is syntactically incorrect and contravenes the Manual of Style (MOS).
3. The bolding of words in subsections (e.g. ====Leggiero tenor roles in...) is completely pointless — it does not change the appearance of those words at all; that's why I removed it.
4. A term should only be wikilinked the first time it occurs (MOS), that's why I unlinked the second and further occurrences of the same composer. I realised, and the MOS allows for this, that this would be inconvenient for the reader if the occurrences were far apart, so I only did it within one section.
5. The lists of roles were already organised into columns; I thought formatting the lists of singers the same way would give he article a more coherent appearance.
6. The hyphens before "A light-lyric tenor has a slighty warmer" and "A full-lyric tenor that has a more mature" are poor typesetting — em dashes mut be used here.
7. I sorted the singers and roles alphabeticlly were they weren't yet; why would you prefer unsorted lists?
8. All the opera roles list the composer; why would you want to omit the composer in the operetta section? Or the comma after the role name?

I can only asume that you hit the Undo function by mistake. I suggest you undo it. All the best, Michael Bednarek (talk) 11:16, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Pastoral opera

Greeting, Nrswanson; it is nice to meet you! Actually, I do "sort of" know you already, because I still watch the Opera project Talk page and follow the discussions (although haven't chimed in, because of not currently being actively involved in working on opera-related articles.) Anyway, I've seen your name in discussions there.

Regarding the pastoral opera article: I only had an outline with a little bit of text started; I haven't done any work on it in over a year. The outline is at User:LiniShu/ClipBoard. If either you or anyone else is interested in taking up this endeavor, please be my guest, and please consider this reply an invitation for anyone to copy all or part of the material found at the userspace link above, for incorporation into an article. If someone else creates an article, I might be interested in contributing some sourced material to it.

Classes on banner

Hi, Nathan. I notice that you removed Start from the banner on Talk:Les Troyens. If you've been reading the Opera Project Talk page, you should know that this class was added automatically by Melonbot the other day, as the default class for all opera project articles that aren't Stubs, GA, B, FL or FA. Could you please leave these Starts in place. The assessment project will (I hope) be starting soon and then articles will be evaluated and the class changed where necessary. Leaving the class blank isn't helpful. I am keeping an eye on Category:Unassessed Opera articles, in order to keep our database consistent, which is how I discover these things!

I also noticed that you removed Stub from the banner on Talk:Ermione. This seems reasonable, as you added the missing synopsis (I'll probably expand it - I have a libretto and recording) - BUT you should have replaced it with Start (see above) rather than as Unassessed; also, when you'd finished the synopsis, you should have removed the opera-stub template on the Ermione page. I agree that this is all a bit fiddly, but it is necessary.

In general, keep a note somewhere of the assessment start date and click the History tab on the Talk page of whatever article you're interested in. This doesn't preclude you or me or anyone else de-stubbing articles (after improving them) before the assessment starts (as you did for Ermione), but don't try to assess them, just make sure that the article doesn't say Stub and the Talk page says Start, otherwise the wires will get crossed. Hello, Fellow de-orphaner!

I noticed you added your name to the list of participants in WikiProject Orphanage. We really appreciate your help! The first things you could do to get started with us are:

1. Read the Wikipedia:WikiProject Orphanage page, especially the section marked "Criteria". The page contains a lot of good advice to get you started, as well as the standard procedures we are using to de-orphan articles.
2. Look at {{orphan}},{{do-attempt}}, and {{articleissues}} closely and make sure you know how to use them correctly. (It's not difficult, but it is easy to screw up. Trust me, I have.)
3. Keep de-orphaning! Category:Orphaned articles contains all orphaned articles organized by month. Right now we're just trying to keep up with all the new orphans being created, so please start with the current monthly category. Once those are cleared out, we can start working on the backlog in reverse-chronological order.

In regard to this edit, the article used as a reference [1] does not say that Hello, Larry was "used as the basic outline" for Frasier. The only references in the article to Frasier are in the title, "Portland needs a ‘Frasier’ to open TV doors", and the second paragraph, which says, "After all, Seattle’s got “Frasier.” Providence has got “Providence.” Cleveland rocks with “The Drew Carey Show.” And Cincinnati used to have “WKRP in Cincinnati.”" The article is about efforts to use Portland as the location and/or setting for a television series, which had not been done since Hello, Larry. But the article doesn't claim that Frasier was based on Hello, Larry any more than Providence or The Drew Carey Show or WKRP in Cincinnati was. The idea that Frasier was based on Hello, Larry is original research and implausible; Hello, Larry was notorious for being a failure and not something a television producer would use as a model for a later series if they wanted to have any hope of getting it on the air. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 16:33, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Hello!

This is Nicole Chamberlin, and I am an intern at the Anchorage Opera.

Thank you for your assistance with the Anchorage Opera to format a more professional representation. It was very kind of you to take an extra minute to remove some of the sound-bites that were copy/pasted by one of our auxiliary from our website (<http://www.anchorageopera.org>), and to specify the necessary changes.

The staff at the Anchorage opera supports adapting our page to be in compliance with Wikipedia's format. The largest change that we will have difficulty with is creating citations for noted references, as most (if not all) of the information was passed from word of mouth, even up to our general manager, Torrie Allen. With this said, what steps do we need to take to validate events?

I read all the information you posted when you explained changes that should be made. Is our page in it's current state considered a "stub?"

Again, thank you for you help. The edits you made make perfect sense, and we are happy to change anything to make our page have clarity.

This image is clearly not public domain- it still has a copyright notice on it! Please remember that Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously- images must be explicitly released into the public domain by their copyright holder, unless the image is very old (different ages for different types of images) or in very specific cases, and this isn't one of them. Photographs of three-dimensional public domain art are generally copyrightable. It's a common misconception, so please be careful. Hi there. The list you renamed was taken from the Harlequin agency website. They usually list all the roles that their singers have done (and if they were in the habit of omitting roles, you would wonder why they kept in Der Geisterbote and Creon...) Let's first make some changes to the basic design. We need to take out This article is also supported by WikiProject Music. because that isn't the relevant project. We'd need to discuss this feature and implement it last. (I proposed this originally - mainly for the Composers and Contemporary Music Projects - but this needs more discussion and liaising with the other projects.) There is/was also a lot of code we don't need - including a notice asking for infoboxes (now removed) ! I'll try to clean it up a bit more - give me a bit more time to work on this. The Philadelphia version is an unusual 3 option type (no rating/rating no comments/rating and comments). I reverted your deletion of our examples

You removed two examples from Template talk:Tmbox. See this edit. I have reverted your mistake. For instance you removed the example "{{WikiProject Opera|category=}}". Your edit comment was: "removing wikiproject banner as it is placing this page in out categories". There are two errors in your reasoning there:

• It does not categorise that page, since we feed the template an empty "category=" parameter.
• Even if it had been categorising the page you should have left the example. How are we going to be able to discuss templates and improve them if we can not show examples?

If you in the future encounter similar examples but that actually do categorise the pages then instead fix the examples by adding an empty category parameter, just like we had already done. And if the templates don't support that then fix the templates, not destroy the discussions.

One source tags

Are you adding 'one source' tags? I'm really not in favour of this. One good source (Oxford, Grove etc.) should be enough. We have so many articles lacking sources altogether. Surely tagging single source articles is heavy handed? --Kleinzach 01:30, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

We really need to be focused on fixing articles and removing tags rather than leaving instructions for other people to do it. The tag rate for opera articles is moderate (13.9 percent) and we should keep it that way. --Kleinzach 01:53, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
