Blue Lagoon edit

Thanks for adding the item on the Blue Lagoon to Milton Keynes. You'll see that I've made the pic smaller and edited the text down a bit. To compensate, I've copied the text and a bigger picture in the Bletchley, Milton Keynes article. The reason for this is that the MK article is rather seriously over-length for anyone with an ordinary modem to download. So it has to have just pointers to more detailed articles. Great pic, by the way! If you are going to the Bowl this summer, the National Bowl article could do with a really good crowd scene. Loads of other articles in [[Category:Milton Keynes]] could do with some more input. --Concrete Cowboy 12:10, 2 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

The major articles have plenty of pics but the minor ones don't have much at all. See WikiCommons
For example, no Milton Keynes redway system pic, we need something maybe at the teardrop lakes, something that illustrates what is being said in the text, ideally with someone cycling on it! better still a family. The Balancing lake article could use a close up of the engineering at Willen, Furzton or Caldecotte as well as some ducks and dinghies. No need to set out to do it, just carry a camera and if you see something interesting, take a pic. By the way the Bletchley, Milton Keynes#Blue Lagoon could do with some history of the place - all I know is that it was a clay pit for Newton Longville brick works. --Concrete Cowboy 17:14, 5 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Affenpinscher Picture edit

I've fixed the image. I disagree that yours is a better image for the article. It may show the face full-on, but it doesn't show the whole dog. It's also very dark. But there is room in the article for more than one image, I would suggest leaving the full dog image in the infobox and adding your image outside the box. And you can always expand the article to give a better balance of course ;)

By the way, it's usual here to add new messages to the bottom of the page, and you can sign by typing four tildes after your message (~~~~). -- sannse (talk) 07:10, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hole in the doughnut effect edit

Hi, the article that you created, Hole in the doughnut effect has been listed as an article for deletion here on the grounds that it is original research. You may be interested in contributing to the discussion. You appear to know your way around wikipedia but I'd be happy to provide assistance if you required. MLA 12:37, 21 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'd be happy to help with any particular issues that you might have.
Regarding the AfD discussion, in order to be a wikipedia article Hole in the doughnut effect needs to be a verifiable term, needs to be notable in some way, and needs to be sourced. The onus is on the article creators and editors to show that these criteria have been met. In the case of this article, it's not currently very clear what the effect refers to which makes it hard for other editors to see how it should be kept. For instance, if it is taught at GCSE then there will likely be some textbooks that can be referenced. My understanding of the article is that it essentially refers to centralisation of shopping preferences but I can't see that it's a verifiable and notable phrase but it might be of interest as part of an article on shopping malls. An example of another short article on shopping centers is Gruen transfer which is written in an encyclopedic style and has external links to show sourcing. MLA 12:53, 21 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
You added a sources section to the article but it's not quite what editors are going to be looking for. Taking the above example of Gruen transfer, there's an external links section which has URLs that provide the evidence for the information contained in the article. There's a lengthy page at Wikipedia:Citing_sources that discusses how to cite sources but the best two bets are to either have an external site to link to, or to have a book such as a core GCSE geography textbook as an explicit source. The source that you added would itself be better off being sourced as it's more of a claim that this subject is covered in GCSE geography which you know to be true but other editors can't verify. AFD discussions edit

One doesn't have to be an administrator to comment on AFD discussion pages. The main reason that you'll find that some editors there are adminstrators is that someone willing to devote time to such a mop-and-bucket job usually ends up being offered a mop and a bucket. ☺ (Being an administrator just means that the community trusts one, based upon one's record, to wield certain, more powerful, editing tools in the best interests of the project. I've often thought that trusty would have been a better name. ☺) The most important thing at AFD is not whether one is an administrator or not. It's whether one can form a good solid reason for keeping or for deleting an article based upon our Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines and whether one is willing to put in the effort of doing the basic research necessary in order to determine whether an article satisfies our criteria or not (Sometimes, it's not a trivial amount of work.) and then write up a detailed rationale. If one does that, then it doesn't matter even if one is a wholly anonymous user who hasn't even created an account. Uncle G 23:19, 24 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

MK Pics edit

Well, the top priority must be to replace the blank patches on the Commons galleries, since these are the source of the images used on many of the MK pages. --Concrete Cowboy 12:18, 25 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Secondary Schools in MK edit

If you have time, the Category:Schools in Milton Keynes is very thin, loads of secondary schools need articles. Try only to use quotes from Ofsted reports as per Stantonbury Campus, no rude remarks! --Concrete Cowboy 17:16, 27 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi.I deleted the article on Animals Count and its president, since the party was created in December 2006 as a joke, and hence lacks notability. Hope this is OK with you, but I think this does not belong in an encyclopedia -- Chris 73 | Talk 16:08, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Jasmijn De Boo.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Jasmijn De Boo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Mikedickin.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Mikedickin.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 14:32, 2 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
