Speedy deletion nomination of From the Ashes (band)

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on From the Ashes (band) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Karl 334 TALK to ME 15:18, 21 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Your draft article, Draft:Douglas Jarvie Clelland

edit

Hello, Mwoolliams. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Douglas Jarvie Clelland".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 12:50, 20 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello Mwoolliams. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially egregious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat SEO.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists, and if it does not, from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Mwoolliams. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Mwoolliams|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Praxidicae (talk) 17:32, 27 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Mwoolliams. You have new messages at Praxidicae's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Hi, I am not being directly or indirectly compensated for work on the article or edits. The person the article is about is a colleague of a friend, and I was asked to help but am not being paid in any way. Im not sure how to do so and keep my privacy, but legally speaking I could provide proof via evidence of my income that no payments have been made.Mwoolliams (talk) 21:23, 27 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

that is still a conflict of interest and as such, you are required to disclose. Praxidicae (talk) 21:24, 27 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
On Commons, you have stated that you are Doug Clelland, an article that comprises the bulk of your editing here on Wikipedia. DMacks (talk) 13:12, 22 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
And even if you are not he, you are clearly (as Praxidicae notes) not completely independent, and you are clearly in close enough contact with him that you can post content for which he owns the license and make releases on his behalf. DMacks (talk) 19:40, 27 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
I am not Doug Clelland, who the article is about. Content has been uploaded with his permission(s). I need to fix the Creative Commons attributions. Mwoolliams (talk) 17:51, 22 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm Ae245. I noticed that in this edit to Simon Barrow, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Ae245 (talk) 15:01, 25 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

This was a disambiguation edit. Creating a disambiguation main page using the original URL, with subsidiary new pages with the information on the previously conflated two individuals with the same name moved over appropriately. Am reverting your edits as they were not constructive. Thanks. Mwoolliams (talk) 15:14, 25 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
You can't replace an existing article with a disambiguation page, or copy the existing article to another page. The history doesn't get moved that way. Ae245 (talk) 15:17, 25 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

About Simon Barrow

edit

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Simon Barrow a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Simon Barrow (theologian). This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Speedy deletion nomination of Simon Barrow (consultant)

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Simon Barrow (consultant) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Ae245 (talk) 15:05, 25 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Simon Barrow (theologian). First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Simon Barrow. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Simon Barrow. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Ae245 (talk) 15:11, 25 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
