Welcome and introduction

edit

Hi, Musant. This is NOT some automated message...it's from a real person. You can talk to me right now. Welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed you've just joined, and wanted to give you a few tips to get you started. If you have any questions, please talk to us. The tips below should help you to get started. Best of luck!  Chzz  ►  20:48, 24 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

ようこそ
  • You don't need to read anything - anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people.
  • Ask for help. Talk to us live, or edit this page, put {{helpme}} and describe what help you need. Someone will reply very quickly - usually within a few minutes.
  • Edit existing articles, before you make your own. Look at some subjects that you know about, and see if you can make them a bit better. For example, Wikipedia:Cleanup#2009.
  • When you're ready, read about Your first article. It should be about something well-known, and it will need references.

Good luck with editing; please drop me a line some time on my own talk page.

There's lots of information below. Once again, welcome to the fantastic world of Wikipedia!

Re. IRC

Hi there. Thanks for asking for help;as promised, following are the notes I made. Sorry it took a little time - Wikipedia had rather a lot of technical problems, over the past few hours (it even made it on CNN!).

The link you looked at previously was WP:BESTCOI.

Here are my notes;

  • "between the years of 1978 and 1985" - any reference for that?
  • "Approximately 600 of these amps were built during that time" - ref?
  • From "Further innovations" onward, there are no references; can any of this info be sourced?
  • "a unique post distortion passive LC tone control" - the word 'unique' may be non-neutral, unless referenced
  • The "Mark Knoffler Wiki Article" shouldn't be an external link; it should either be Wikilinked within the text, or it should be in 'See also'
  • Too many external links; rule-of-thumb is about 3. Unless they add to the understanding of the subject of the article, they should be removed
  • Format the external links like this: [http://www.google.com This is Google] So that the link is the wording

. If you can reduce the number of external links, and either add references as described OR remove unreferenced facts, then I can move it to the live area.

For more help, you can either;
  • Leave a message on my own talk page; OR
  • Use a {{helpme}} - please create a new section at the end of your own talk page, put {{helpme}}, and ask your question - remember to 'sign' your name by putting ~~~~ at the end; OR
  • Talk to us live, with this or this.
Best wishes,  Chzz  ►  20:48, 24 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Click on user talk:Chzz, then click 'new section', and put a subject. Type in your message, and at the end, 'sign' with ~~~~. Cheers!  Chzz  ►  18:42, 25 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for uploading File:Jim kelley single channel hardwood combo.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. FASTILYsock(TALK) 03:05, 28 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Re. signature

edit

Note: I did reply to your message on my talk page, but that has now been archived - my page gets rather busy. So, I am copying my reply here.  Chzz  ►  09:59, 1 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hm - seems to be failing to sign, for some reason; could you click on 'my preferences' (at the top), and scroll down to the 'signature' box, remove anything in that box so that it is empty, and check that the 'sign my name exactly as shown' is not checked. That will, hopefully, fix it.  Chzz  ►  21:01, 25 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please feel free to start a fresh section on my talk page for any further questions. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  09:59, 1 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Referencing

edit

You can reference any sentence (or even within a sentence) by adding a <ref> and </ref> directly after the fact concerned. You can also use 'named references' so that you can use the same source many times. This is the preferred way of referencing articles.  Chzz  ►  09:58, 8 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

A new user asked for help in getting some Wikipedians to complete this survey] - anonymous, and only for research. If you have a few spare minutes, perhaps you could complete it. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  06:05, 10 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source/license for File:AltairPowerAttenuator.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:AltairPowerAttenuator.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.
