Barack Obama section heading edit

How are the years for someones presidency "Too much detail for a heading"? It's not like I'm including the exact day that he started or the month and year he started and ended. Also, many other articles on presidents have years in the section headings and I don't see any problem with that. 74thClarkBarHG (talk) 02:25, 2 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Because he only had one presidency, and it's a biography, not a resume.- MrX 02:57, 2 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Adoption edit

Er, this page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user/Adoptee%27s_Area/Adopters_) said that you're open to adopting new users, so I was wondering if you could adopt me? Danke. JackOfPanTrades Card Hunter (Engage in intellectual conversation) 19:28, 5 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

@JackOfPanTrades: I would recommend MrX from my personal experience. Though under him, the first rule is: you begin and end every sentence addressing him with "Sir!" :)
Though I'm unsure whether he's free enough judging by late response. Till then, why don't you post any initial queries here (if any) right now and I'll answer them? Ugog Nizdast (talk) 09:23, 6 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! I'll do that for now. JackOfPanTrades Card Hunter (Engage in intellectual conversation) 13:57, 6 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hi JackOfPanTrades. Sorry for the slow reply. Unfortunately, I am very busy for the next few weeks so I would not be able to offer much in terms of adoption. I am usually on Wikipedia at least a couple of times a day, so I'm happy to answer any questions or point you in the right direction.
I heartily endorse Ugog Nizdast answering any of your questions as well. You don't even have to address him as sir, at least not until he becomes an admin.- MrX 21:47, 6 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

"andrea cera" listed at Redirects for discussion edit

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect "andrea cera". Since you had some involvement with the "andrea cera" redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. AddWittyNameHere (talk) 05:22, 8 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion edit

I notice that you tagged the page Luan Muça for speedy deletion with the reason "article about a real person that does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject". While that's a valid reason for speedy deletion in general, this page does not qualify for speedy deletion under that criterion because the article suggests he is a president and CEO of a company, and a famous entrepreneur, which is an assertion of important or significance. If you still want the page to be deleted, please consider tagging it with a speedy deletion template which does apply, redirecting it to another page, proposing the page for deletion if it appears to be an uncontroversial matter, or taking the page to WP:AFD for discussion on the merits. Thanks! Stifle (talk) 13:43, 11 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Recent edits to Project Management Software edit

Hello, Mr X, Sir, sorry for wasting your time. I wanted to add a product to the list of project management software, but did not immediately appreciate that this needed a specific Wikipedia article to link to. I will submit such an article, as there is good evidence available, which I believe is suitable for citation. Thanks for the guidance. Johnxmorrissey (talk) 14:23, 13 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

That's OK Johnxmorrissey, I don't consider it time wasted. We're all here to make the encyclopedia better.- MrX 13:27, 14 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

A barnstar for you! edit

  The Original Barnstar
I made an edit to Shepard Smith's wikipedia page yesterday (while logged out) which you corrected. You also sent a polite message on why you chose to do so. As a newcomer to Wikipedia as far as editing goes, it was a nice introduction and much appreciated. I'll be sure to take more care in the future.

Thanks for the help! W 83vc62 (talk) 07:01, 14 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you W 83vc62 and welcome to Wikipedia!- MrX 13:25, 14 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Back to Life CSD edit

I've declined your CSD nomination of Back to Life (Anthony Evans Album) - the creator may have "blanked" the page, but it looks more like they're attempting to recreate the content rather than delete it outright. Feel free to add back the redirect (I think that's the best move at this point), but I suggest asking Hgeeayy if they really want the page deleted before re-tagging. Primefac (talk) 22:05, 16 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Primefac: I think you should have either left the CSD or restored the redirect. A blank page article is not desirable in article space. I've restored the redirect.- MrX 22:36, 16 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Advice Re: User Conduct Report on ANI edit

Hi Mr. X. Thanks for weighing in on the the user conduct issue I reported recently to ANI.[1] You mentioned that the user in question has been previously warned and advised taking the issue to WP:ARBAPDS,[2] but I'm not sure how to proceed with that and was wondering if you could provide some context and guidance. The user is again making personal attacks, just yesterday accusing me of being a sock. Administrative action seems necessary at this point Rhode Island Red (talk) 17:19, 24 January 2017 (UTC).Reply

Hi Rhode Island Red. WP:ARBAPDS is the Arbcom case that authorizes discretionary sanctions. To request sanctions, you have to file a complete, bureaucratically meticulous, and factual report here: WP:AE. I recommend that you read a few past cases and carefully read the instructions in the pink box. Then click Click here to add a new enforcement request near the top of the page and complete the template. I can't emphasize enough to keep it clear, concise, and factual, with dated diffs. Emotional complaints and pettifoggery will only hurt your case. Good luck. After clicking 'Click here to add a new enforcement request', you can copy the template into your sandbox and complete it there, if you would like for me to review it before submitting it.- MrX 17:33, 24 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again! The process looks arcane and a bit daunting but I will figure it out and do the best I can to move the case forward. And yes, I agree, keep emotions out of it and focus coolly on the details. Best wishes! Rhode Island Red (talk) 18:39, 24 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Alternative Facts edit

How do you provide input on a change to the page when the content is based on original content? The current page on Alternative facts is extremely biased based on a media interaction and lacks input from use of the term beyond the media scope being recorded... BasilPuglisi (talk) 14:15, 26 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi BasilPuglisi. You can start (or join) a discussion on the article talk page here: talk:Alternative facts. Any content added to articles must be relevant to the article subject, verifiable in reliable sources with citations, and must not include any novel synthesis on the part of Wikipedia editors. I hope that helps.- MrX 14:24, 26 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Listen, about the Rings plot section edit

Don't just assume that I didn't read your edit-summary, before undoing your edit. I undid your edit because you didn't bother stating where the info was copied from, nor did you even try to replace what you erased. You literally just reduced the section to a fragment of the opening sentence, and said "it's copied from somewhere".

This can easily be classified as vandalism, and yet, you had the audacity to leave an admin-style warning on my wall, as if I was the one breaking the rules.

If the info really was copied from somewhere, you should at least say where it was copied from in your edit summary. Rather than just linking to Wikipedia's copyright policies. Rickraptor707 (talk) 11:32, 4 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

If you were to look at the other edit summaries where I recently reverted the same material, you would see that I did note where the material may have been copied from here and here. There is no legitimate reason to restore a copyright violation, and doing so can result in you being blocked. There is also no obligation for any editor to replace a copyright violation with other material. Removing copyright violating material is never vandalism.- MrX 12:51, 4 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Well, you didn't say where it was copied from in the edit that I undid. You can't really expect people to look beyond the first page of the edit history, to see if this has happened before. You should have put those links in all of your edit summaries, rather than just the first few.
Also, you should have at least tried to write new info to replace the copied stuff. "13 years after the events of the earlier chapters in the franchise." can't even pretend to be an adequate plot summary. At the very least, you should have reworded the sentence a bit. Something along the lines of "The film's plot is set roughly 13 years after the events of the previous film." would have sufficed. That would at least make sense, and people would be less inclined to revert it. Rickraptor707 (talk) 13:17, 4 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

New Page Review - newsletter No.2 edit

Hello MrX/Archive,

A HUGE backlog

We now have 814 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

  1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
  2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
  3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election edit

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

Reverting edit

I didnt make more than 1 revert in 24 hrs or indeed more than one revert full stop. Please explain why you allege that I did here. I have only made two edits to the article the 1st was an original, the 2nd a revert but you claim otherwise with a highly patronizing "what isnt clear" statement. You also reverted once in 24 hours, so what is the difference between you and me here? Or is it that the rules dont apply to you? ♫ RichardWeiss talk contribs 06:16, 12 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Revert 1: 06:38, February 11, 2017 Revert 2: 10:09, February 11, 2017. Reverting means undoing or otherwise negating the effects of one or more edits, which results in the page (or a part of it) being restored to a previous version.- MrX 12:40, 12 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Nope, that 1st one wasnt a revert. You cannot seriously expect, as you appear to, that an editor checks every version of an article to ensure that their fresh edit wasn't made by someone else before and reverted, and you know this. It is not a reasonable expectation. I had never seen the article before and, reading about the chap, decided to see what wikipedia said about him. I spotted the issue and fixed it, as I have to many other articles in the past, ie removing unotable details. So I absolutely deny that, by any reasonable standard, my initial edit could be considered a revert. ♫ RichardWeiss talk contribs 13:33, 12 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Voting for coordinators has now begun HERE and will continue through/to 23:59 UTC Monday 06 March. Please be sure to vote. Any registered, confirmed editor can vote. Nominations are now closed.

Still a MASSIVE backlog

We now have 814 New Page Reviewers but despite numerous appeals for help, the backlog has NOT been significantly reduced.
If you asked for the New Page Reviewer right, please consider investing a bit of time - every little helps preventing spam and trash entering the mainspace and Google when the 'NO_INDEX' tags expire.

Possible Adoption? edit

Hi! I saw you on the list of adopters, and I was wondering if you had any spare time to take on a new member? I just joined Wikipedia and I seem to be struggling a bit with how to use it (currently fighting an edit on Betsy Devos if you want to take a look). I am really interested in a way to edit political pages while staying within Wikipedia's rules. Also, I saw an interest of yours was the LGBTQ community, and as a member of that community I figured we might be a good match. If you don't have time right now, no problem, just let me know! (thanks sir).Nick.aus96 (talk) 11:55, 27 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Nick.aus96. Welcome to Wikipedia! I do have a little more free time than I've had for the past several months, so I could offer some informal mentoring. To start, I can keep an eye on your contributions and provide you some feedback on your talk page. Of course you can ask me questions here, or on your talk page. If you want to alert me to a question on your talk page (or any other page), you can use the ECHO function by adding the following wiki-markup {{ping|MrX}} or {{U|MrX}} to your post. Cheers.- MrX 20:23, 27 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi MrX. I've been looking for outstanding Wikipedia editors to nominate for adminship, and wonder if you've considered running? You have a solid history of great contributions here, experience in the right places, and I think you'd make a good candidate. Let me know what your thoughts are. Hi Sam Walton. Thanks for your kind words. I've considered adminship before, and I've been asked about it by a few other people, but it's not really something that I'm interested in pursuing right now. Perhaps sometime in the future I may consider it. Thanks again for asking.- MrX 03:46, 13 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Oversight and Guidance edit

Good morning and good day to you. I'm a returning user and am looking for someone to review my actions in combating vandalism and patrolling recent changes; as well as provide guidance when needed. I'm also in desperate need of a refresher training with the markup language, but that is actually coming along a lot faster than I had expected. I understand your schedule is crazy and you may not be as able to be actively involved now, but I value the critic of more senior editors and am eager to continually improve. I look forward to hearing from you! Operator873CONNECT 15:08, 12 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
