The sentence beginning "Unfortunately for Somerled, his demise denied him the ecclesiastical reunification he sought..."seems awkward. Proposed rephrase: "Somerled's demise precluded the ecclesiastical reunification he sought..." Mischievousgnome (talk) 15:30, 1 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Help me!

edit

Please help me with... Hello, I would like to obtain an opinion on a biographical article I am preparing about a living person as regards its suitability for submission. I have also encountered a formatting problem with which I would like some help. The draft is currently in my sandbox. Thank you for your attention. Mischievousgnome (talk) 15:08, 19 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

I believe that this edit resolved the "formatting issue." If there are any other formatting issues, please list them below. 78.28.44.111 (talk) 15:24, 19 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
As for the suitability of the draft for submission, I'd say it still needs a bit of work; right now it reads like a resume. I'm also not entirely sure whether its subject meets our notability requirements; I think you should go through the list at WP:NSCIENTIST, identify which of the criteria are met by your article's subject, and then modify the lead section of your draft to contain a clear assertion of notability. Right now, it just says what basically amounts to "the person is an academic and has a job in his field." 78.28.44.111 (talk) 15:48, 19 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your response. I believe you have resolved the formatting issue, for which I am grateful. With regard to the second comment, I will follow your suggestion and expand the lead paragraph. In this first draft, I endeavoured to restrict myself to stating the relevant facts as succinctly as possible.Mischievousgnome (talk) 16:54, 19 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Further to the above, I have expanded the lead paragraph to include more detail pertaining to notability. The first sentence remains basically the same. If you read further, you will see that the subject meets almost all the criteria set out in the WP:NSCIENTIST section. As regards the formatting problem, I note that the contents still sit above the page title, rather than below. Is there a simple fix for that? Much obliged for your advice and suggestions. Mischievousgnome (talk) 18:25, 19 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

There indeed is a simple fix, you can add __TOC__ wherever you wish within a page, as I did in this edit, and it will move the table of contents to that location. 78.28.44.111 (talk) 18:52, 19 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for fixing the problem and for your suggestions. Mischievousgnome (talk) 17:49, 20 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
