You're mentoring users for copyediting. & that's totally my area. I noticed you love horses & so do I. It's kinda hard to find horse-lovers. So we kinda have something in common. GOCE September 2012 drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors September 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up Participation: Out of 41 people who signed up this drive, 28 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing July, August, September and October 2011 from the backlog. This means that, for the first time since the drives began, the backlog is less than a year. At least 677 tagged articles were copy edited, although 365 new ones were added during the month. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2341 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We completed all 54 requests outstanding before September 2012 as well as eight of those made in September. Copy Edit of the Month: Voting is now over for the August 2012 competition, and prizes will be issued soon. The September 2012 contest is closed for submissions and open for voting. The Last Weekend (British series)

Hello. You recently approved The Last Weekend (British series) at AFC. However, the plot section was actually copied from the series's introduction, presumably written by the production company, as seen here. Please be careful to review AFC drafts for copyright violations in the future--it's an issue particularly because so many of them are promotional, and often contain content copied straight from a company's website. Hi. Actually, pasting into Google is what I do... When I see stuff that seems suspicious (generally overly dramatic and promotional in tone), I'd just take a small chunk and paste it into Google. Usually the rest of the article comes right out. :) I think there was a bot that would patrol new articles for copyvios, but I'm not sure if it's still functioning. Although the article also needs work in other areas (formatting and copyediting), the first thing I checked was its references. Wikipedia requires an article about a company to have significant coverage (more than one passing mention) in reliable, independent, secondary sources. All the article's references now are press releases, self-published or mentions on websites devoted to advertising. Please try to include significant mention of the channel in newspaper coverage, for example (something more than a channel listing), to indicate its notability for inclusion. I hope this helps. MIniap please advise

Miniapolis, Can you please help me understand why my article is again declined. I added newspaper references and upon reading the guidelines for notable Basketball Players...there were 3 catergories, and he fell under 1 of them.

Glad to help. First, I trust that you have read the biographies of living persons policy and the conflict-of-interest guideline. While you're right that the article's subject meets the sport-specific guidelines (which in my view differ too much from the general notability guidelines, but that's irrelevant), I don't think it's ready for the following reasons:

• It violates the neutral point of view policy, one of WP's fundamental principles.
• The article's citation style is inadequate for a BLP. The sourcing requirements for BLPs are stricter than those for other types of articles, and require inline citations for all claims which can be challenged.

WP:Writing better articles has good general information. If you rewrite the article from a neutral, encyclopedic point of view and use inline citations to indicate notability and verify any claims made, it will stand a better chance. All the best, Miniapolis (talk) 16:09, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

Page Curation newsletter - closing up!

Hey all :).

We're (very shortly) closing down this development cycle for Page Curation. It's genuinely been a pleasure to talk with you all and build software that is so close to my own heart, and also so effective. The current backlog is 9 days, and I've never seen it that low before.

However! Closing up shop does not mean not making any improvements. First-off, this is your last chance to give us a poke about unresolved bugs or report new ones on the talkpage. If something's going wrong, we want to know about it :). Second, we'll hopefully be taking another pass over the software next year. Submit your best October copy edit there before the end of the month. Submissions end, and discussion and voting begin, on November 1 at 00:00 (UTC). Please read What counts as a reliable source, Notability ("if no reliable third-party sources can be found on a topic, then it should not have a separate article") and Wikipedia is not a soapbox or means of promotion.
