Thebigday

Please see WP:CORP, the notability guidelines for Wikipedia articles concerning companies. Make sure this article meets the guidelines otherwise there is a strong chance it will eventually be deleted. Thanks, Scientizzle 00:22, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thx Scientizzle...I saw notability tag, and attempted to verify notability according to the guidelines link I saw using the news stories about us (which there are a ton...67 so far this year alone!). Perhaps that shouldn't be in the body, and I should have just sent that to you? -- Michael 00:25, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Actually, what you've got is a good start. It's best to pluck out the relevant information from the sources and cite them. See WP:CITE for more information about citing sources well. -- Scientizzle 00:29, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

OK, thx, I think I understand now. I'm not really quoting anything from the stories, so perhaps I should just make an external links section at the bottom and link back to a few of the most important stories on the pub's own websites? Also, there's a press release on the BBB's site about our 2004 Business of the Year award...is it appropriate to mention up in the company history this award with a link to the BBB press release? Michael 00:35, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've added one citation needed tag on the primary claim to notability--if you can cite a non-trivial source there you're good to go. Feel free to remove the {{notability}} tag after that. I removed the {{advert}} tag, but the language could still be neutralized up a bit--it reads somewhat like a promotion (tough to be NPOV about your own company, I'm sure...but try). Removal of some of the details--a "just the facts ma'am" approach--would probably help. I'll se what I can do... -- Scientizzle 00:38, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
(by the way--you did message me correctly) -- Scientizzle 00:38, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

First thanks for all your help, and your very speedy responses! This makes it much easier for me to get "bootstrapped" here, and I really appreciate it. OK, I've got the link to the BBB award in the external links, and dropped the laundry list of articles--if anyone's really interested they can follow the link to stories in the Ext links section. I think the key summary details of our company are (a) the registry and (b) the travel services, and for the latter, it's not all destinations, so if I were another company learning about TheBigDay, I'd want to know if they played in my space or not.

Next question, we have a few major partnerships that are noteworthy: Pleasant Holidays, Starwood Hawaii, and Outrigger Hotels and Resorts. These are all in the $500 million and up club in terms of revenue, and establish TheBigDay in terms of credibility in the eyes of other travel companies, in the same way that the BBB award establishes credibility in the eyes of the consumer. Is that appropriate here? Home Depot listed the major brands they sell (but not all); I'm thinking I should list the major partners (we have about 100 very small partners that probably shouldn't make the cut). Thx again for your help on this -- Michael 00:45, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm logging off for the day, so I'm afraid I can't help much more...but other editors can help, too. Place {{helpme}} here on your talk page to get someone's attention, hopefully they can answer your questions. Also, I left a not at Talk:TheBigDay. Best of luck! -- Scientizzle 00:50, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re: TheBigDay I think I'm good to go in terms of proper citations for the claims (Globe and Mail article), and with the list of independent news articles about our company referenced, I should be good in terms of qualifying for notability. I don't believe I ought to remove the notability warning block myself without editor's approval, correct?

Hi! I've reviewed the article and removed the notability tag. Though you could remove the notability tag, I think you acted correctly in soliciting an outside opinion, especially given that you are connected with the article's subject. I think a listing of your partnerships might be fine; if anyone disagrees, they can always remove it and say why on the talk page.  ;) Cheers! -- Merope Talk/Review 19:43, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, Merope...I'm very impressed with the support I've received here, it's made it a piece of cake for me to get my first page up and running! -- Michael 16:25, 18 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
